It's really sad to see how bad Kylotonn has treated Test Drive Unlimited series. I saw lots of red flags along the way with trailers and gameplay but I was still hoping they'll manage to make something solid out of it. I wanted to see game like TDU 1 and TDU 2 mixed but evolved and better. We are living in time Assetto Corsa series is going to feel more Test Drive Unlimited than TDU itself (talking about AC Evo and the open world addition).
14:00 - no doubt Forza’s been a massive disappointment. They’ve introduced a number of key essential improvements that have made it a genuinely, tangibly better experience than Day-1, namely in the form of better optimization, slightly un-effing the graphics (eg gamma corrections), bug reduction (most, not all bugs), added tracks (despite being recycled), MASSIVE improvements to hopper selections, and requisite features like a proxy radar. Even the FRR’s been noticeably improved despite not being perfect. It’s actually very possible to have several clean, competitive lobby experiences back to back now, particularly as a wheel user. That said, it still suffers from an anemic campaign, an uninspired total package, further bugs, a lack of cars, a lack of new tracks, an outdated PI system (leading to blatant meta abuse), absolutely brain dead AI, bizarre feature omissions, what feels like an archaic livery system, and general roughness that shows up with inconsistent sound quality, visual equality, etc. It just lacks any kind of inspiration. Very designed-by-committee feeling one year later. But if you’re willing to Stockholm Syndrome yourself into playing it for hours on end, understanding the effective tuning methodologies (which aren’t reflective to irl logic), and are willing to pull some hairs out while getting the steering settings aligned, it’s a hell of a lot of fun. And I have no shame in saying that.
agreed on all that. As a longtime FM fan, I was/am bitterly disappointed by FM8. I still, rarely though, play it from time to time, and there **is** some genuine fun to be had there; BUT there's so many BETTER options out there that there's almost no reason to not let FM accumulate cobwebs and play other, better sims. ...and it genuinely pains me to say that. :/ I can't say that I know EVERY reason that FM turned so sour, but FM fans and FM as a franchise deserve much better than what they received.
Nice to see a dedicated 'negative' video. These are much harder to make as you just know the reception is going to be worse than if you give glowing praise to something else. Always appreciate a candid, honest 'yep, this sucks'. Totally agree about the Fanatec situation, though. I bought into their eco system in BF 2023, and my experience itself has actually been quite positive as I got my gear within 3 days and have no reason to deal with the customer service, but it really did feel like I had bet on the wrong horse while the situation with the company itself was up in the air. As a consumer, I was totally blindsided by the whole thing, there wasn't even a hint of anything being wrong with the company itself when I was doing research in October '23. If I was going to do it all again, would I have bought into Moza instead? Hard to say, but probably not, though I did buy their handbrake as Fanatec's was just complete rubbish by comparison.

TDUSC is the worst release i have ever bought, the game is still in a bad place, and it will take over a year to improve, those of us who bought the gold edition go screwed, and the compensation? stickers. The game is DEAD
"Solar Crown" was also a disappointment for me. Not because I had very high hopes or I was clamoring for a "Test Drive", but I had hoped this would be like a kind of casual open-world car-driving game with realistic cars, but nothing complex and all that. - When I tried the demo or whatever it was, it just came across as very cheap, both in feel and visually, like some indie-game on Steam 10 years ago. - But I realized that "Forza Horizon" is actually what I looked for in terms of that, as well as pre Pimp My Ride "Need For Speed" in the mix, just driving around a bunch of cars on all kinds of open roads and being able to customize them as well. - And I don't even play it with a wheel, actually. Mainly because I can't get it to work, but it's more like an adventure-game or something, and especially with all the menus you really want a comfortable gamepad or even mouse. - No need for "Solar Crown". That said, "AC EVO" seems like it will do the thing I thought "Solar Crown" would do, for the most part.
Tdu1 is my favourite video game ever. Solar crown I struggled through a few hours on launch, gave up, came back, played it once, got as bored as our host. Easily my biggest disappointment in gaming in multiple years not just this.
Fanatec is annoying me because i have a csw2.5 and 2 wheels. If i want to upgrade to dd with them i have to spend an extra $200 for the new quick releases. Its cheaper to go with a newer better option. They have been a nightmare to deal with. I had to pay $100 for shipping to RMA the wheelbase they put bad metal in. It was really annoying because i sent it to Beverly Hills. They could have had cheaper rent anywhere else and paid for shipping for bad products they had to fix. Im currently trying to decide between simagic and moza to switch to
Forza motorsport can provide tense and close racing. But it is just an unfinished mess of a game. They have to rethink about the future of the franchise (forza horizon included).
@TraxionGG I might be cursing in the church of sim racers as I am a console player and, maybe I missed something but were there any race sims out on Series X or PS5 in 2024?!? Let alone good, or, in this case, bad. (Sorry EA’s F1 and Testdrive aren’t sim racers in my opinion)
Loved the Fanatec drama, plain and simple. - It was exactly at the time when I was getting into all this sim-racing stuff and it was just a bunch of popcorn-content for me.
I've played around 1,000 hours of Forza Motorsport, and I believe I have had my fill. I don't want to play it anymore. I've been putting more time into Raceroom and trying to see what all the hub-bub is with AMS2. FM23... Sorry. Its getting set aside until it either dies or has a thorough makeover. I just can't deal with it in its current state. Honestly, I was hoping FM would have become more of a hard core sim racer being that Forza Horizon has stolen all of Forza's thunder and limelight. But the developers are fixed on Forza Motorsport being beginner friendly and loosely associated with "Motorsports". Its a shame really. And the saddest thing about the game, is the handling is probably the best Forza Motorsports has ever had, but the overall package is death by 1000 cuts. So, I can say FM23 was my go-to sim racing game in 2024 but, going forward, I'm picking titles that take the word "Simulation" a little more seriously.
I kept playing forza ms for a good while as it's one of the few more Sim like racers that handles pretty well on a controller on pc and Xbox. Would love to try gt7, but I'm not spending $500 just to pay another $60 to play ONE game. That said, I got an r5 bundle for Christmas, so that's not really a problem anymore
Forza is a controller game, and I still think it's the best casual motorsport/controller game/series. No one is playing it for its sim-like features. It does things well, not amazingly.
Certainly not, it is based on a 2013 graphics engine and an evolving 2004 physics engine initially created by ISI. The CPU handles so much data just for physics that it will never arrive on console because they are so slow and out of place. If a console port were to arrive alone the 3D part would come from the PC, the physics part would be completely redone and would look absolutely not like Rfactor 2 and LMU but rather like very bad games and simcad or arcade like Assetto Competizion, Assetto Corsa, for example which do not have the same physics as on PC and are much much more arcade (already that Competizion is simcad so on console it's funny). If that happens, good for you and given the catastrophic level that there is on these plastic boxes, I really hope that you will only be among yourselves so as not to pollute the real simracers and pilots that are the real PC players.
What is really intersting to me as a massive ACC fan with nearly 1k hrs is that FM in comparrision is less popular however the online bit of FM is so much better than any of the other sims. 5 minutes and i am online. Lots of different track, car and weather combos compared to just 2-3 tracks in ACC that gets raced most of the time unless you poor a ton of time in stuff like LFM.
ACC numbers are looking good as of today on Steam charts. I know people like to be a little dramatic at times, but it’s a complete sim and still one of the best out there. I hope Kunos will get back to develop it once they launch the full version of EVO.
@ this right here should have been listed in this video as the “worst” of sim racing, the toxicity of the community. Such a useless comment with the only intent of offending. Maybe you’re just a kid, but if you don’t have anything constructive to say, just keep your mouth shut. And learn to speak English like I did
Acc wont get any more content, all focus will be on evo, acc is to limited for my liking, and dosent run on a good engine, no mod support either. Ac evo will be a much bigger title. Kunos has also already confirmed that thry will support evo for many years.
Solar Crown isn't a sim. And as a game it's good fun. I enjoy driving in it. Hopefully Assetto Corsa Evo can do something like it. With just driving laps on a track I go 😴😴😴 after a while.
Forza Motor Sports is my favorite game to play in my rig. SC2 Pro Asher Heusinkveld Mainly because I can play at my own pace and not have to deal with others, I enjoy career mode and when you get up there and buy really expensive cars its a totally different game So anyone just "jumping on to play around" imo wont get the full feeling of the game. I don't even think online you can pick the most expensive cars
I’d suggest all F1 fans should play AMS2. Even if you still don’t love the improved 1.6 physics it’s easily the best F1 game when you mod it. Biggest sim disappointment for me was RF2 seemingly being abandoned. It’s still my fave sim but it is just being left to die, I’ve had to switch ACC & R3E for my online fix now. I really hope LMU does well so Studio397 might be able to give RF2 at least a little bit of love in the future. If (!) LMU ever went to console I feel it would save the company.
"i had such high expectations" so let me get this clear. You decided TDUSC was the worst of this year because YOU thought it would basically kill anything on the market. The problem with TDUSC outside of real issues it has (because it has) is simply coming from people like you who expected the moon, years or not doesn't mean anything when you simply take into account the budget. Also about the servers, you can do everything you want about it, servers will always never work fully on day-one. Even Microsoft couldn't get it for Flight Simulator even though the game was running on their servers.
its just bad, cant find any one who says otherwise not to mention its a test drive game, claiming people should compare it to previous title smell of copium
I like Forza because on Xbox acc and wrc are the only game good games otherwise! Gives u fun and competitive racing but it really is lacking a ranking system and a ton more the GT7 seems to have! Like the fact the Forza Motorsport still doesn’t have any stats on wins or literally anything or like special race suits for winner certain amount of online races or I mean anything fun and extra! Makes me sad being on Xbox and not ps5 haha
I was definitely disappointed to hear that Evo won't be GTWC officially silenced. I last heard from Traxion that this was to be the case anyway. ACC has been my 'go-to' for years now and would definitely be saddened if it died a death. I, for one, have no interest in open world driving.
@rednirvana74 Honestly, I'm hoping that the GT3 content will be strong enough to take up the slack when ACC drops off the hook. I'm going to assume that as Kunos already has the scanned tracks, they'll be adding pretty much all the ACC tracks to Evo anyway and we'll finally get the up to date versions that we never got with ACC. If this can become a reality, Evo would obviously be a no brainer.
11:00 - I'm sorry I don't care about MSG as a company at all. They cynically set out to grab up all the licenses to churn out rebadged RF2 content. LMU was never going to succeed, it was a cash grab from the start. RF2 was always a "it could be great if only...." game. It's long dead now though. The sooner we let it die the better, otherwise it's going to constantly get rehashed into perpetually incomplete half games to rip off consumers.
Have you played LMU? Seems to be doing just fine at the moment. 15 splits for a beginner race I did last weekend, around 360 drivers had registered for it. That's more than I can ever remember for ACC at its peak, a similar singularly focused game.
I finally bought LMU yesterday and have to say it's fantastic. Ended up grabbing the Season Pass today. Servers have plenty of people. Hopefully the naysayers of the past quit trash talking it. If you don't like it, move on, don't try to kill it.
The "honorable mentions" section should have been called "dishonorable mentions" 😂
