You can never convince a pro athlete to intentionally underperform. Their pride and their paycheck depends on their performance. That being said I'm sure the organization is aware of how valuable the number 1 pick is to a rebuilding team, and how meaningless and harmful a win next week would be to the rebuild. The top brass could apply some pressure to the coaching staff to maybe perhaps not prepare as well or make some questionable coaching decisions in game. We'll see.

Hunter is listed at 6-1 185lbs. But he is more along the lines of 6' 175. He also runs around a 4.45. Not a guy you take number 1 overall. He won't play both ways in the NFL either. Looks like a trade down is best with so many QB needy teams.

This happened last year where they cycled with Arizona and Washington (They had picks 3 and 34). So with 4 teams tied at 3 wins, the first team to pick in rd 1 picks 4th of those tied teams in rd 2, then 3rd of those tied teams in rd 3...

Would much more prefer Mcmillan though i think, a pure WR, or of course a LT if there's one worth drafting in the top 10, or a LB

If you can walk away with an extra first round pick next year as well as a gaining an extra 2nd round pick this year; All while being able to take one of the top players like Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, Will Johnson or Tetairoa McMillian?! You can also package both of your 2nd round picks to trade back into the first round and take someone like Tyler Booker or Tyler Warren. You take that deal EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE WEEK!!!👏🏼

NE's OL is one MASSIVE reach - Cole Strange - a flop at G moved over to G and a bunch of late round garbage picks or UFA who couldn't block a pass rush from the Little Beaver County Day School. Thank you Bill B for killing this team with terrible drafting.
FIX THE OL - invest in it. I haven't done it recently, but in the past I've looked at the OLs of WINNING TEAMS - who they have and where they were drafted OR if they were ALREADY successful - like Thuney. Those teams invested in the OL, NE did not - and it shows

This is hard to answer because it depends what the teams right below you want. If they’re competing for the same players (amongst themselves; I don’t mean same players that you want), absolutely trade down! We’ve seen in a couple of recent drafts how much teams will give up just to leapfrog one or two other teams. You can get an absolute draft haul simply by trading down to #3-5. AND…
What I’m NOT good at is player evaluation because I don’t watch CFB, but… assuming the majority are correct on who the Pats should pursue, and the estimate of where he’ll go… he’ll still be available at #3 or #4… maybe even #5 (this is where evaluating other teams’ needs becomes so critical).
Again, it depends on the evaluation of the teams right behind you… if #2 is looking for a QB, #3 a WR, #4 a CB and #5 a RB (yes, I know, bad example, as it’s fairly unrealistic, but you see my point)… no incentive for those teams to leapfrog. So, you’re not going to gain a ton of draft capital by trading with them. But if three of them are looking for a QB, you could absolutely drag the #4 team for any picks you want (within reason)… and THEN… knowing #1-3 are likely all going for QBs… you still get your man.
The only thing I will say is that it’s pretty clear to me you don’t draft the guy everyone’s talking about at #1. Again, I don’t know much about him, but just going by every analysis I’ve seen, he’s not remotely #1 pick caliber. So, you either pick someone better (but those would mostly be viewed, in a draft sense, as QBs… so, that seems illogical) or you trade down. Since the former seems illogical, it really looks the Pats have only one option…
Trade down. The question is: how far down? Problem with answering this is, it’s not entirely up to them. And the draft order behind them is still a bit muddled. So, you almost can’t answer it. Ideally, as noted above, go down just a few spots, still get your man, but pull in a pretty hefty draft haul. But that depends on the exact draft order and those teams’ specific needs. You may have no choice but to trade further down, lose your man, with the saving grace being a veritable dump truck of picks. And we DO have a lot of needs; so, as long as those picks are “high enough” (quality players) it may not be bad, even if it means missing out on “our guy”. Without knowing the draft order, we can’t know which scenario is better or more likely. But one thing’s clear…
    Trade down.

This team in addition to a blue chip OT needs a super solid DT prospect like Mason Graham. Not a sexy pick, but with Barmore iffy and the D-line in the abysmal state it is in, wouldn't be a bad choice. All depends though on what they do in Free Agency from March on. I remember this crew was prognosticating how great Javon Baker and Polk looked during preseason sand lot practices. Barf. They should trade the pick and then trade it again. I would like to see them accumulate 8 picks in the top 100. The rationale is as follows: The top 10 is not a strong class relative to previous seasons. Eliot Wolf is a poor scout and will miss on 50% of his selections. The safe place to select from is 16-100. LB and DL are the only positions where starters are plentiful. Very good TEs will be available in round 2-3. We need to grab an offensive tackle (or 2) in the 16-36 range and then use the remaining 5 top picks to draft the best player available. That way it takes all the thinking out of the selection process. I dont care if we dont pick a receiver in the draft. There are alot of pro ready defensive linemen in this draft as well as LB. Fine. Go get em. Malik Nabors is a better receiver than Travis hunter and the Giants stink. So too will the patriots in 2025 if they dont recover 5 starters in this upcoming draft.

I hear what people are saying about the lack of Blue Chip talent at the top but that has never decreased the value before…Two of the best trades ever (and the most recent) for the top pick in the draft came in years that were considered very week QB drafts for Bryce Young and Jared Goff. They are good QBs but at the time they were not considered elite prospects. They should be able to land serious assets and still get a great player at WR or OT.

Because of the glut of quality QB's last year, really only 4 teams need a QB.
Even if the Jets, Giants, Browns or Raiders were in love with Ward, they have very little left to trade and are all in the top 10 picks already. Only the Bills have multiple 2's and no team right now has multiple 1's.
If you don't love Hunter you could maybe trade into 2026 and grab one of those better looking tackles but that's another year without a 'guarantee' at tackle.
What happened here is Bill never set us up for a rebuild. We drafted Shaq Mason, Joe Thuney and Ted Karras in 15 and 16 but Bill let them walk. Those are the vets you should have right now just like Brady had all those years. All 3 of those dudes are still playing at a high level and Thuney was all-pro.
This team was left on autopilot after Brady was basically let go and now Mayo is left to try and pick up the pieces.

That’s not how the NFL works people. If your 4th rounders pick begins showing you something by middle to end of year 2, or beginning of year 3, you’re very happy.
Just look at Boutte. He was highly touted out of high school like Baker, went to a “lesser” school after transferring - and now he’s de facto WR1 for the Pats. Granted, Boutte is better served as a WR3 but my point is Baker could easily be that guy. Really, one alpha WR 1 changes the entire look of this offense because the Patriots haven’t had a WR consistently doubled in over 7 seasons now making it extremely hard to push the ball down the field consistently. We’re closer than people think - one player can change an offense

Trade pick to #2 for a second this year and sap a three next year.
Then trade to the third spot for an another second this year and a third this year and a OL or DL from other teams roster.
Take McMillan at #4 and move back into first round late for OL with some of the capital that was picked up.
A real opportunity to make two moves and still get 4th pick and additional capital. With only two QB worth drafting , they could pull this off

How is this even a question? Who thinks about taking a player who might be better then Deion Sanders? This kid is the most talented and the most sure bet out of any player in the draft that his game will translate at the next level. We're talking T.Hill material. Taking a LT isn't gonna have even close to the same effect. Hunter will instantly take the weight off all our other receivers.

most teams don't draft a player then trade him. They usually trade spots, the way NE GM skippy "who's my daddy" Wolfe deftly traded/ROBBED the Chargers last draft. He traded #34 to the Chargers for #37 (and a late round pick) so the Chargers could take 1,000+ rookie sensation Ladd McConkey at #34 ... and we could get Ja'Lynn 'the snail;' Polk.

@@Mark-wo9ytmy first point is this: Ja’lynn “the snail” Polk will surely be the better draft pick long term compared to Ladd the Chad. Secondly, firing Mayo and/or Covington after one season would be a prime example of the big “R”. That’s why we need to run it back completely next year with the exact same crew (minus AVP of course. Someone’s head needs to roll and it can’t be Jerod or Demarcus for obvious reasons).

    2 points to make.
    1) What has Elliot Wolfe done to keep his job? The roster he assembled is the worst in the NFL. We failed to add any depth or impact in FA, despite having cap room to burn. His draft was miserable. You don't get credit for taking the consensus no.3 qb with the 3rd pick. Every other pick has been dreadful. Finally, he failed to add any impact players during the season.
    2) What is this magical free agency you're talking about where we fill every hole on the roster with impact starters?

I've never said this any other draft for them, in fact it's always driven me nuts.....but they need to trade back. They could get a decent haul and there's an O lineman around the 9th pick. Or about 4 more around 14-20. But ya I don't want them taking Hunter. I'd prefer we trade for an upper tier wr (or 2). We have plenty of cap, and could have some draft capital from trading out of pick 1. Plz do the right thing. And I realllllly hope it's not Mayo doing the picking too.
