This is one of those lessons that I need to slow down to 75% playback speed. Lotta good stuff there. Rapid fire techniques, love it! Goes perfect with your Funk and Fingerstyle workbooks. And I gotta get me one if those STAX tshirts!!! Thank you so much Dan.
This is the nest medicine. What an onion skin of a basic exercise, peel away a layer and another presents itself. TBH, I can't think you can talk enough about the the Dorian scale... (Goooo Sparta!). What I enjoy the most about these lessons is how casual it and relaxed it feels without the need to pull a ''Bass Face', Thank you Dan.
Thanks Dan - I'm glad you covered "The Shake" as you call it, so that's how Mark Adams played those notes with the Slave band decades ago. I recall that was a unique emphasized bass sound in Slave's songs, including "Watching You". Nice work on the techniques - a reminder for me to work on raking and ghost notes.
Lots of pearls in this video Dan. Thanks. Especially like the 'shake' - it actually reminded me of Mick Karns fretless technique on many songs namely to outline the chord notes low down then zip up the fretboard for the shake - e.g. Visions of China. Though Mick RIP would hit on the note and a tone above rather than the funk shake of a semitone above and below. Awesome technique - I'm guessing its something to not overuse as it can really catch the attention :)
Ohh wow, you've made my day, a Mark Adams fan too.👍 Another guy whom I've found does a great shake, dare I say even more articulated, is Davide Romani of Change fame. Thanks for the upload Dan. Just discovered this channel and what a find😎
Hi Dan, Curious have you ever tried a 1970s Greco jb600 bass with block inlays? Looking for a look like your fender without spending over 1500. Any thoughts or knock off names
That’s very specific, Robert! 🤣 I have to say I haven’t had the pleasure although I’d love to. Sire are doing amazing things and are cheap. Many professionals use them (check out Andre Berry!). Tokai and Squier spring to mind. You can always upgrade parts and pickups.
It is but the pickups are also both on which minimises hum. I actually have a power issue in my studio right now which does cause buzzing - I'm looking into power conditioners because I love a quiet studio!!
@@OnlineBassCourses very cool !!! Do you use the fusion or vintage set? . Sorry for all the questions I just love your sound. I’m a bass player who’s living in America quite a few years now I lived and worked around London for years when they were banned in the London Hilton I was the bass player there in the Royal Garden Hotel and mac and Katie Kissoon, Clem Curtis, different people around town for a while… Over here though unless you want to live in one of the music Hobbs like Nashville New York LA etc. The music scene is nowhere near as good as it was when I was back in London. Of course back in my day the Melody maker came out on a Thursday and there’s lots of gigs lol.

That's very kind, Curtis. Thanks very much.
How did I miss this one? _Excellent_ lesson man, your playing is on point and so clean!
Thanks a million!

🤣 yeah, there's no real need for that in my lessons...
Maybe we need a lesson on bass faces...funk knowing smile, rock grimace, pop nonchalance, metal snarl...
Thanks Dan, trying to keep up. Brilliant.
Thanks, Paul. You can always rewind or watch again; I know there's a lot there!

Yeah, he was so amazing. I reckon one of the most unknown brilliant bass players there is.
Thank you. Have always wanted to play funk technique. Been playing just straight technique for over 25 years. Love your videos and I’m learning. 😊
Good to hear! There’s so much you can learn from funk.
Fantastic lesson!
Thanks, Ricardo!
Mark Adams one of the greatest funk bass legends of all times
That was both entertaining and informative!
Thanks Abby!
Oh man, this is right up my alley. Lovely stuff. I will save up money and get it as a christmas gift for myself.
Cool. Glad you like this style of music - it's brilliant for bass!
AWESOME lesson. Thanks Dan
🙏
I didn’t like funk but after picking up the bass the first bassline I played was a funky type of line but it was not perfect so this is great
Thanks for this video about funk. Great video as always!
Thanks for watching!
Another very, very helpful video Dan, Cheers - always learn something from your lessons.
Thanks, Andy. Keep up the great playing!
Another great one, thank u!!!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent techniques Dan great playing style thank you.
Thanks, Peter.
Yesssss, thanks Dan
You're welcome!
Great lesson, thank you ! Did you use flat or roundstrings on this lesson?
Thanks! Old round wounds I think.
Thanks Dan much appreciated 👍
🙏
What bass scales use usually in funk style except dorian and pentatonic, please?thank you!
Dorian and pentatonic. 😂 I mean it depends but it really is mostly that. Maybe a Mixolydian/major pentatonic depending on key.
This funk course is on my Crimbo list
Cool, Jay. I hope you'll like it!
Great Vid. Do you remember what positions you had the neck or bridge pickup at, for the funky stank sound?
Thanks! Sorry I don’t but it was probably both pickups wide open…
that is really funky thaks
Excellent as usual 😉
Thanks, Luca!

I think that last point is absolutely right. 🙏🙏
NO WAY!! You have a Monique Preamp! Me too! How awesome is it?!
It’s great!
DAN YOU'RE MAKING ME WORK FOR IT
NICE VIDEO
Keep up the great work!
Was looking at all that stuff in my book lastnight
Have a question for you? Does The beginner to bassist course covers everything? or do I have to purchase the funk course, also
It's a shake down
Cheers Dan
Nice one
🙏🙏
merci beaucoup ; sympa
That Jazz sound is warm cream to the ear! what are the string you are using sir? TIA
Thanks! Elites Stadiums 45-105
@@OnlineBassCourses Thank you very much!

Thanks! It's a Dorian mode - it's on the free PDF.

Even with my bass tuned it doesn't sound like this one. I have a P Bass with 9050L Fender strings. Any suggestions ?
A P bass is never going to sound like a Jazz bass (unfortunately!). My suggestion is…get a Jazz bass at some point to have the two main bass tones.
Just Brilliant Mate 👌👍✌️
Thanks!

How do you get this tone?
1975 Fender Jazz! That’s the tone. No amp, EQ etc.
Sangar pisan..
Super
🙏
Great vid - as usual Dan!!
Tell me about your jazz bass pls 😬 and what strings/gauges - sounds grr8
Thank you 🙏🙏
