I live in Dallas, and I must say that La Plaza is a pretty impressive mall! Seems like every major store of large cities is in there and so many independents. When I make it down that way, I'll defintitely go by there. Mc Allen really looks like a nice city.
La Plaza Mall is one of Simon Property Group's busiest malls in the whole country. Lots of people from Mexico shops there to find deals that are hard to find on the other side. The big city of Monterrey is only 3 hours away and McAllen is a popular weekend trip for lots of them.
Recognized as the 3rd safest city by metro size according to a table by SmartAsset titled "Top 100 Safest Cities in the U.S." Lived next door in Mission now going on 25 years. Love the RGV! TROPICAL TEXAS! Great culture - great food - great people. This is Texas without prejudice.
Wow- looks like a wonderful city. I am seriously considering moving there from South Dakota. Currently on a mission's trip in Tampico. Let the Lord's Will be done...
@@josecas7229 The cost of living there is very reasonable and cheaper than many other places, so housing follows suit. I'm sure there are a range of apartment prices depending on what you are looking for that a quick search could turn up.
I used to visit McAllen a lot when I was a teenager attending school at Marine Military Academy. Had a good friend who lived there. His parents owned Molinas Restaurant. We used to frequent the Discotecs in Reynosa on Saturday nights. One particular dance club called Cafe Extra. I love the RGV, and I try to visit at least once a year. Head over to SPI for a holiday weekend. Good times.
I’m in Cali as well and its prices are insane here, looking for a home for me wife and our kids. Paid a visit to this area and it’s good for us to live and not get taxed for every nickel like here in Cali . Visited the Rio grande, San padre island and enjoyed it !!
oh i miss mcallen so much, this video sort of quenched my thirst 4 it. i live in san antonio now, but i head up there this summer- i just love the valley so much and mexico too- great video btw, keep up the good work amigos
McAllen is just like other border city called El Paso in same lone star state.... same street atmosphere like California especially East Los Angeles, San Ysidro next to Tijuana, Baja California. due to large mexican population resides there as its closer to border city in Mexico... while McAllen is next to Reynosa, Tamaulipas and El Paso is next to Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. LOVE TO VISIT THIS CITY IN THE FUTURE FOR SURE ALONG WITH BROWNSVILLE MATAMOROS. I can guarantee I will be able to find best Taco, Tostada, Tamales 🫔 etc any Mexican foods even more than LA.
Hi I'm planning a vacation trip next week and I'm flying from Reynosa. I was wondering if Is any place where I can storage my car for a week in Mcallen Tx.
Hello and thank you for the awesome video!! From Cleveland ohio.. I am bilingual… Looking into McAllen/ Brownsville for relocation.. Thoughts? Thanks again!
Hey there - thanks for watching! I like the area; cost of living is low, the beach is pretty close, food is good. My buddy has lived in the area for 20 years - he likes the Harlingen area. Best of l luck!
Mcallen looks like a different country , there's very minimal diversity unlike other places in the United States that mall was culture shock lol and I'm on my phone watching.
It kinda feels weird seeing a place were me and my family always drive or walk by in TH-cam Edit: at 27:56 in rex cafe and bakery i suggest anyone who is new in Macallan to go there at 9 or 10 when they give breakfast because they do give good food there. Also in 43:04 in Los Callejones de Milagro they give good food there as well but go there later in the afternoon and if your lucky at night the have a mariachi band playing. :)

I've been to McAllen quite a bit and find it to be alright. Any border area is going to have the associated smuggling activities, but it's a very small fraction of the population. Any other city is the same with it's criminal activity. It's seems to be a pretty safe place and most people are good-natured.
@Lana-pf5ce didn't say there was terror everywhere but you look at the economy in the area and you look at the real estate market and they don't fit together. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I heard of mcallen from a video on Facebook of a fancy house for sale for 300k that would cost easily twice as much here in Michigan for the same house.
I am black, thinking of moving to McAllen.but am am worried because I don’t see any black people in these videos.I don’t want my child to the only black kid in school.
@@cristinamalcolm8111 We are going to go check out McAllen next week to see if we like it. It is 80% Mexican. We lived in a small town in Pasco, WA and we had lots of blacks...but when the Mexican moved in, the blacks moved out. They do not get along.
to be fair, i live in mcallen, and it is the only place in the valley where you see people of color at all. Yes, its rare, but I see a black person at least 3 times a week. This is in large part due to the university being a matter of minutes away in edinburg, as well as that general area being statistically the most diverse in general. Here you will find indian, Korean, Japanese, arabic, filipino, etc foods which are essentially non existant across the rest of the valley. It is still quite a small city and definitely predominantly Hispanic, there isn't much to do, but the cost of living is amazing. Your child wont be the only black kid, but they will definitely be one of maybe about 10 in the younger years until high school where there's more diversity. But yes, it is 95 percent Hispanic, so if you are worried about them feeling isolated and alone , then id suggest finding another place. I will say though, that the culture down here is a bit ignorant and you will often see hispanic teens using the n word very casually. On an optimistic note, racism towards people of color here isn't aggressive and i assure you you'd be safe here when it comes to the possibility of being targeted for discrimination. our African American community continues to grow and that's a great thing.

I looked up fattest cities in the US and McAllen got the first place. Judging from the people in the mall, its true.
It's nice to be number 1 at something!
When you see and taste all the amazing food you'll understand why. Some cities are taking the initiative to reverse this problem.
