Spent ages looking for doors to buy that I can cut down to size to fit the opening left by the builders. Never thought of building my own door. This solution is much more simpler and smarter. Thank you for sharing.
We're currently in lockdown for at least a month here in NZ. I live out of town a bit on two acres. I hear you about using what you have at hand. At this time I'm so glad I'm a bit of a hoarder. So many things to do and so far have been able to find material somewhere on the property.
I have been building up supplies for about 6 months to re-deck and EPDM my 60sqm garage/workshop roof, all I reaily needed was the OSB3 sheets, and luckily I managed to get them delivered at the beginning of the lockdown, two weeks into the job and I still haven't finished it (no wonder every quote I had was around £4500!). Struggling to get guttering now though!.
Love the simplicity for this application, no need to overdo it. I just have a piece of drywall in a similar cutout to attic and looking for easy way to insulate better.
You are right Tim, not the most exciting video but, you know what, I just went and looked our loft hatch.... no insulation on it and no edge seals, so thanks for the tip, as soon as the lockdown is lifted I am off to buy some insulation for our loft hatch. So it was a great video, many thanks, its the little things that make the big things great :-)
Thanks Tim , you’ve inspired me to do the two loft doors at our house, currently the entrances to the loft space are nothing more than sheets of hardboard held in place with a few screws down either side , As my old headmaster wrote many years ago, Must try harder ! 🥴
Your loft video series has given me lots of ideas. I'm curious as to why you did not insulate the storage area instead of leaving a cold area ? Everything in the storage area will become damp and mouldy also more so with carpet tiles for flooring.

I'm doing a loft conversion but my eaves doors (6 of them) have a 33° pitch along the top of the door, I have 100mm kingspan left over, have I no chance of getting the door swing the way you have by planing the door side when it's 100mm? Thanks, yours looks fantastic If you don't think it's possible would you just make insulated panels held in with toggle latches?
I am looking to do this to my house. What did you insulate your walls with and do you need a vapor barrier if using the foam insulation between the studs?
Neat job Tim, how was the rubber seal attached? Looks like you might have had an issue with it falling off? (nice editing though!!) I once worked with a joiner who always used a palm route for notching out for hinges, have you ever tried that?
I route most of my hinges and locks now, but not when Jo has just moved the new bed and duvet in to the same room. 😂 seal was just peel and stick, paint in the door must have been tacky still but sorted now. 👍
I cheated and brought the Manthrope GL250 and replaced the 50mm polystyrene for some 50mm kingspan then made a internal lip with 25mm kingspan, as the hatch slides it make it nice and air tight. Don’t forget the vapour barrier.
You could do but there was no need to have all the storage space on the warm side and would have just added to the heating demand of the top floor anyway. That said in the office I did insulate all the way down to create ‘eaves cupboards’ within the room.

Steve McLean know what you mean! I’ve knocked out 5 or 6 scrap wood projects already, keeping the kids busy too with little builds.

Simple fix but executed well
Try cutting the insulation with the track saw setup, you’ll be amazed how accurate you can get.
