TLDR; keep gloves in M&M minis tube. I’m a new subscriber and a First Responder at an explosives plant in California. I’ve been binging on your older videos to pick up any little tricks of the trade that could help me and mine in that capacity. Something some of us do out here to store our gloves is we stuff them into a cleaned “ M&M’s minis” tube. It keeps them clean, protected, dry, and helps organize your bag. You can fit four gloves it it, and remove them with your fingertip. Hope this helps.
I have been using the X Shears for a year or so, both as an ED nurse and a FF/paramedic. These things rock! Never had them fail on me. When I got mine, they were only offered in black. Now out it colors, they my be on my list for Christmas gifts for some of my nursing friends.
I use the Robin Safety Boy Trauma Shears... Will cut through anything like a hot knife through butter... They are on the expensive side. 110 for the shears and holster..
Late to the party by a couple years but have been watching a lot of your stuff lately and have been building my ifaks and trama kits based on a lot of your stuff. Keep up the good work. Side note... love the bloopers at the end 😂
And you don't think the Raptor sheath is big and bulky? The thing is huge and snags on everything. I have XShears and Raptors and had Kydex sheaths made for both for around $20 each. I believe XShears have their own branded sheath at this time for about $30
I've been debating between these shears and the Leatherman Raptor. I'm not an EMT but I want to get at least some kind of training other than basic first aid and with that, the right gear. Honestly, these X-Shears seem pretty awesome, even without the bells and whistles.
I was looking at the Raptor at my FFL & they were folded up. I tried to unfold them but i opened them up incorrectly and the shears got stuck open in an unusable condition. We fiddled with them for about 20 minutes trying to get them unstuck & no one at the store could fix them. Thats when i realized these were not the right choice for me
These look like electrician's shears with trauma ergonomics. A few years ago I tested electrician's shears, trauma shears and a pair of gerber game shears on an old pair of boots and folded denim. Electrician's shears won.
S. Jeffrey Bolton The regular trauma shears are terrible. They are dull after one or two uses. Electrician shears are definitely better. The electrician shears don’t work for trauma situations. Do the test again with the Leatherman Raptor, XShears, or any good quality trauma shear.
Okay... I was just trying to rationalize, "Why I need another set of EMS shears" and I decided "color" would be my justification. I have Raptors on a Kevlar Key Bak, and Claus Titanium in a leather belt sheath... but for those of us w/o a vest... How do you secure the xShears? Hmmmmm...... (are they really that good?)
Could you do a Video about how to improvise training gear for wound packing etc.? Like a bleeding arm etc.? I know there is good stuff to buy out there - but maybe there is some stuff that can be built from one yourself (when on a budget etc.). Thank you!
Hey Skinnymedic! Good review. Just to update... Xshear's do have a holster now but... it is $29.00 on Amazon which brings the total with shears to $68.00. $1.95 less than Leatherman with holster on Amazon which is $69.95. So which one would you say is now the better buy?
Thanks. This looks like what I'll be carrying. What're a few extra dollars when it comes to lifesaving gear? Always buy the best, you won't regret giving up that extra hamburger each month. In fact, you'll be healthier for it, so it's a win win!
*Sure they are good shears and better than the $2 shears but it's more expensive when you have to throw them away because the are bloody.* *I guess for the price you don't throw away the XShears but clean them as best as you can.* *They certainly look easier to clean that the Leatherman Raptor with all its buttons and moving parts.* *Maybe doing some cutting tests to compare the cheap shears, Xshears, and Raptor on different materials would make an interesting video.*

Very nice!
I have 2 of them and are hands down the best trauma shears I own. I keep one in my edc bag and use the others at work on the ambulance.
Nice! Thank you for the feedback!

Thank you for the support!
Love my Raptors!!! Have been carrying mine for several years now.

I actually won my pair in a giveaway on Facebook.
Nice!
I'm currently running a pair of Rip shears, they work pretty well but I have been looking into getting these
Now they have a Holster you should do a review on it

Thanks for all the great videos! Were the blades nicked after you cut the wire fence? How badly if at all? Thanks!

NO you don't need to throw them away, clean them with a bleach / water solution and they are good to go
why would you throw shears away just cause they are bloody you can wash blood off easily
Even the cheap ones are autoclavable, so there is no real problem in reusing them...
Order a pair and were stolen before I ever got to see them lol
I think I need a pair of these 😉
you looked a bit hot they will come in handy if you want to get your kit off quick
