Good detail, but better if you have a clear white background and close up on the eq head. It will give precise view. Ta

Thanks for creating a great video.
I’m on holiday in France and my neighbor has a Synscan EQ3 Celestron telescope that he has kindly lent to me for a week, he knows that I’m a keen night sky watcher as I used to have a Newtonian 6inch reflector. This is a fabulous telescope but I am finding it difficult to get anything into absolute crystal clear focus, unfortunately I cannot contact my neighbor as he is now on holiday himself! The best result is when I extend the eyepiece as far as possible but it’s still not absolutely clear, I wonder if there is an extension tube that should be attached. Can you give me some advice please in how to focus?
    Many thanks
    Peter

Reflectors normally need the camera closer to the mirrors by 25mm to obtain focus, my first reflector I shortened the focuser. You may be able to adjust the primary mirror, moving it about 25 mm forward or towards the secondary mirror. If your having trouble with outwards focus, you can remove the glass from a barlow lens, this will then act as an extension tube, or yes extension tubes are available from optical stores. Hope this helps.

Hi Phil. Your telescope will need a 45 mm vixen dovetail mount on it. Search the web for a 45mm vixen dovetail bar and see if your scope fitting is the same. That's all I can say without the exact scope type or seeing a photo :)

Hi Thanks for the upload, Im thinking of buying the EQ3 and the EQ3 pro goto upgrade kit for it. I'v been visual observing for a couple of years but now i have started to get into astrophotography and im having trouble finding a decent low price astrophoto quality mount (i'm disabled and cannot afford high priced gear). Can anyone tell me if there is a better option and also Can you connect a guide cam to this EQ3 pro setup ? Is it accurate enough? Thanks 😊
PS. At a stretch i could afford a EQ5 if i buy the pro goto motor kit seperate. Is it enough of an upgrade to warrent the extra money?

Hi Chris. The EQ3 Pro can be guided, to get fairly good guiding I needed to strip the mount, clean the old grease and re grease with quality grease. It's not perfect but good enough for good images. I got it secondhand for £200. EQ5 very similar, just bigger payload. The big step comes with the HEQ5 & NEQ6 but they are heavy to handle and a bit more expensive, my secondhand NEQ6 was £600..... EQ3 payload 5.5 kg max. EQ5 payload 9.1 kg max. HEQ5 payload 15 kg max. All these are visual astronomy payloads, when we start astrophotography the max payload drops by a couple of kg. Depending on what scope your using, another option is the Skywatcher star adventurer, for small scopes and lenses. My advise would be to get the best you can afford. Not sure if you can leave a permanent set up, need to setup every time or have help with setting up. The mounts get big and heavy beyond the EQ5.

@@AstronomySailing Ah ok Thanks very much, I will keep an eye out for second hand and check out my tube options as i was going to use my 6" reflector to get me started but it sounds like if i cannot get a better second hand mount i will get the EQ5 pro and buy myself a Skywatcher Evostar 72ED DS Pro F/5.8 Doublet APO Refractor or something similar. Thanks for your help.
