You, Sir, are a genius. I play Heresy in 15mm and this technique for Alpha Legion is perfect - wouldn't have considered wash directly on silver. Well done, that man! 🤙
HH bit me too & I also decided on Alpha Legion. Pretty excited to get mine painted up and on a table. I will be spending a fair amount of time wrapping my head around the rules since I never played 7th ed.
Great job and recipe man! I've been wanting to try my speed paints for an Alpha Legion (I gave up on my White Scars for 30K because painting white), but haven't found a speed paint one. It's so easy to do and thank you so much for giving the specific recipe. It's easier then the Akhelian Green, which is nice, but working with contrast medium (without a dropper) is harder to work with. But thank you for making my HH about a billion times easier now.
I’m doing this paint job on my Primaris marines , hopefully I will get the Horus Heresy box set next week as well , will do half Alpha Legion and half Dark Angels
I feel that on the spraypaint! I use the same Rustoleum and Krylon sprays and 99% of the time they work great, but some days they come out dusty. But still great brand for way less than a specific hobby spray!
Oh I know, with me I'll always get this like... "frost" over the miniature from moisture in the air. That only time I really notice it is on dark miniatures based black blue etc
Is there a reason you use a varnish before you finish painting the mini? Surely if you make any mistakes after varnishing you will not be able to fix it without revarnishing?
It can be helpful to do a varnish over the Speedpaints before moving on ... Not entirely necessary if you let it fully dry and cure, but there can be minor reactivation issues if it's not fully dried. The varnish locks it in without any worries
I'm still on the fence of starting HH. I already have a Black Legion and Primaris army. So, I am not sure if I want 3rd marine army. Plus, I started a Chaos Knight army this year. Finally, I can't decide at all which legion to go with if I did. I keep hopping between Blood Angels, Sons of Horus or Ultramarines. For a while now, I wanted a Blood Angels army to the point if I had to do it all over again; I'd paint my OD green Primaris as the Knights of the Chalice. Having a Black Legion army leads me to having a Sons of Horus, but I already have a green marine and Necron (Mephrit) armies, and I am not that keen on the Sons' particular shade of green. As for Ultramarines, I do think they get dunked on too much, but starting a whole 30k army to be a contrarian seems excessive. I like how your Alpha Legion came out. If might, have you considered going with an earth brown-type color for the base rims? I am in the school of thought of having bases blend into the table, so I think brown would look great. However, I do understand the other school of thought to have the rim standout to for better gaming purposes or general aesthetics.
I don't tend to for most uses, but they do have a Speedpaints Medium which would allow you to thin them (for less intense colors) without losing the Speedpaint abilities.
The problem with Rustoleum is that it's a lacquer, which eats through acrylic paint. The cracks appeared due to there not being a gloss coat being put down first. I'd suggest just switching to a Tamiya matt or satin spray.
If you getting into 30k how about you try out Kill Team: Age of Darkness? It's a fan project mixing kill team with HH. There are only legions now but humans are on the way
But Brother Geekherius. Should you not braid your beard into tiny beard snakes now? :D Prolly not getting into 30k. 40k, AoS and the lesser forms of either are enough for now. But when I gets moar money... Maybe... There's also a bit of problem with local 30k circles. Have to see how they work their problems now that the Gucci goes a bit more mainstream...
Very nice! If I were to do up an Alpha Legion force I think I'd go this route. Very fast and effective.
My man, the idea of using other Legion units is what sold me on the Alpha Legion.

But Phil, you have a Dark Angel's army! You already have a traitor force!
Another great video Philbro! I’m really chomping at the bit to see your black legion on the table!!
Nice. I’ve started on my Alpha Legion army as well. Now if GW could ever get their transfer sheet back in stock.
Yes doing this for my 40k “chaos” Alpha legion… good tip on the mix of paints for the armour colour!
They look great! Thanks for showing off using our Weathering Powders on the bases!!!
They were awesome to use! 😀

Great work there Phil, keep up the pace! I love to watch these painting vids. They keep me motivated to work on my stuff :)
This plasmagic mix is very clever stuff!
Im going to try this tonight, but using Zenithal Highlighting from leadbelcher to plate metal
Looking forward to trying out this scheme! Cheers!

Love the video! Now tempted to do Alpha Legion.

Nice effect!
Excellent video

I probably would like Night Lords because of their looks and I love Curze
Thank you!
Hey Phil if you spray varnish when it's humid out it can cause issues
That might be it ... But it's approximately never not humid here in Georgia so I might just need to be extra careful 😉

Whelp, if I ever do a chaos army I always said I'd do alpha legion, and this is exactly the scheme I'd go for it

@@TheGlacialGeek I see, if you let them dry, then painted the acrylics and varnished afterwards, would they look different?
One of us, one of us, one of us.

I always paint my rims black like they end at the basing material, but I like both ways 🙂
Do you thin the speed paint?

Do you not use any washes?
I have in some cases, but not all. The Speedpaints do a good job of getting shadows, midtones, and highlights in one coat
@@TheGlacialGeek id be interested in what Druchi violet would do with the green/blue

I’m gonna wait and play cults and militia in 30k so hopefully the book comes out soon

Oh no not the dreaded HH bug!
Or do you? Grab yourself a cypher and let’s find out on the next episode of GLACIEL GEEK!
But its not only marines.
Its also got mechanicum, daemons, imperial army and milita, solar auxilia...
You maybe supposed to say I am alspharius the glacial geek.
Alpharius the glacial geek?
Geekpharius 😉
Thank you for this tutorial!!!! I am Alpharius and this is a lie !!! haha
We are Alpharius

I do want some cool Viking/pirate beard braids 😉
@@TheGlacialGeek Half wolf, half serpent, all Heresy. 😄
I mean, couldn't you say that all your armies are alpha legion, wearing false colors / armor / fake ork flesh?
