    Really stoked to find your videos. I've been wanting to do an ironman for a long time but always put it off for one reason or another. In December I couldn't walk to the mailbox without my back hurting or out of breath. Realized I need to get after it and decided to sign up for ironman florida in November. Been hard at work and it's encouraging to watch the progress you've made. Keep up the good work!

      Great work keep going hard. It really is worth it when you start feeling amazing believe me. Persistence is the only skill required you got this. 👍👍

    A 4hr brick with 14 weeks to go is an awesome platform for the big ramps in training over the next 3 months. … the bad news however is, contrary to your race review, Cairns actually IS a hilly bike course for a lot of it; and when it isnt hilly there is a block 15-25 knot headwind from the south-east all day, every day … so there is that. However, it is beautiful, and if you are mentally prepared for both the hills (which ain’t mountains, not even Rex Lookout) and the headwind (just drop down the gears and sit on target cadence and average power) it is a GREAT ride ;).

      Thanks for the support, I'm not as worried about the hills in the ride as they are not big in Cairns but the Run is flat so that's a bonus.

    Always good to have experienced those conditions, because now you know if you can do that, you can do anything, it’s a real boost when you need it.
    I did Cairns 70.3 last year, the ride from Palm Cove to (almost) Port Douglas isn’t flat, you need to be careful with people coming downhill towards you that you are keeping left and not drifting out, and also for
    the people behind you, there were a few people taken out because of it.
    You will ride to Port Douglas and back to Palm Cove twice, the views are spectacular, Rex Look-Out is the steepest but the views 😍😍 on the way back the wind actually slowed my hill descents so that was a bummer, and it’s windy through the cane fields going back to Cairns.
    I followed a TP program for the first time (always had a coach) and it was to my regret, I did virtually no bill training and hadn’t run for a year due to a foot injury until 16 weeks prior.
    The run is flat as a pancake, but important not to burn all your matches on the bike, spin up the hills, you’ll get momentum from one hill to the other so don’t stress about it, you’re a strong guy and you’ll be fine, keep eating and drinking on the bike so you can get that run done.
    FulGaz will have the Cairns course if you want to give it a crack, it’s free for the first few weeks or month, it’ll give you a heads up on what to expect.
    I can promise you there’s nothing like finishing a full Ironman!

      Thanks mate, good feedback. I am adding a bit of hill work into my riding in the lead up so that should be fine. I plan to go up and ride the track before hand so should be all good. Thanks for the support.

    Hey mate - there is the Morton Bay Triathlon - 2km swim/60km cycle/ 15km run - four weeks before Cairns. I reckon this might be an ideal last big hit out for you before the Big Dance. Depending on your specific program your longest run should be either 5 weeks out from cairns, or 3 weeks out. Having a ‘practice’ race of around 4.5hours duration in between your last two big long run days would be an excellent way to practice your race nutrition and hydration in a race setting. I reckon you should discuss this option with Fergus. If you do decide to do it, maybe fly down to Brisvegas rather than put yourself through a 4 day road trip, lols. Get yourself a spare card board box from your local bike shop and some bubble wrap from Bunnings or Officeworks and you will be good to go for bike transport. Anyhoo: a good option, IMO.
    BTW - with that chaffing with one of your new tri-suits - try good old fashioned Vaseline in affected spots and train in it for a couple of times. It will resolve itself pretty quickly in my experience.

      @TakeTheNextRight  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I will talk to Fergus about the Triathlon I know he has a plan in place but I wouldn't mind another race. Thanks for the heads up.

    I was watching on Sunday, it was pretty bad. Just wanted to say I'm not sure I would call Cairns bike flat. You'll have to do Rex's look out twice so that's 2 times up each side plus a stack of rollers.it only flattens out once you hit palm cove on the way home.
    And the wind is brutal at times on the exposed road but it seldom gets a mention.
    The run is pancake flat.

    • @stevenleslie8354
      @stevenleslie8354 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just read Andrews comments on Cairns bike so it's not just me thinking it's not flat lol

    • @TakeTheNextRight
      @TakeTheNextRight  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I'm sure the riders in Nice would call Cairns flat but you are correct, I'm not worried about hills as much on my bike as the run. I have got some hill work scheduled for the bike so that should help too. Maybe next year I will try a really hilly course.. haha

    Great effort Shayne. Conditions seemed testing but you did it and learned a lot so take those positives forward to IM. A tip from my side would be to do some of your long rides and runs in the gear you plan to use for IM. Really helps find those annoying seams that rub!

    • @TakeTheNextRight

      Very true! It's certainly on my agenda in my bricks now to do that. I have some big bricks coming up and the trisuits will get a good workout.

    Brilliant stuff, mate! I raced as well, in fact, I gave you a cheeky "take the next right" on the ride as I was suffering along with you in the first 20kms. Those conditions were tough, but the race and atmosphere were brilliant. Not sure what brand of tri suit you had, but the sleeves should help with the arm chafing for sure (I wear a sleeved tri suit for this reason). The chafing on the chest usually comes from suits that don't have a zipper guard on the top. Great stuff again mate, keep it up,

    Would be interesting to hear about your heart rate for the bike and run.. I base everything off my heart rate… 👍🏻

    • @TakeTheNextRight
      @TakeTheNextRight  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My Average heart rate was 130 on the bike which is high for me compared to a normal ride which is around 120 average. On the run I was around 137 which is about normal for me on a a long run. Just had no juice for the hills there which aren't big but enough to knock my rhythm.

    Well done! It sounds like you over-biked slightly on the hills in the last 5km which cost you minutes in the run. I meant to ask, will the full Ironman be wetsuit legal?

    • @TakeTheNextRight
      @TakeTheNextRight  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apparently Cairns is always wetsuit allowed due to the stingers. I think the run was the problem with hills, I really need to do some work on hills running if I do a course that has hills that's for sure.

    Shayne, 1500m im 28 mins?? You must be delighted with that time?? Surely thats a great swim time??

    • @TakeTheNextRight
      @TakeTheNextRight  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I was happy with the swim given the conditions. Strangely I'm not worried about the swim in Cairns and I thought that would be my worst leg so I'm happy about that.
