I think that's exactly the reason they don't do it. Having the railcar move out onto the main in order to run around is another peculiarity, but the track layout at Stiege is rather strange.
@@SteamPower4ever The Kehrschleife was installed 1984. Trains, coming from Güntersberge not driving to Hasselfelde but directly to Eisfelder Talmühle can use it instead of uncoupling and transferring the locomotive to the other end to recouple it. Back those days it was necessary for freight trains to keep it coupled an just moving.
@@harzerhamster6735 Thank you. Yes, I know that the Kehrschleife was installed for the freight trains, but we were wondering why they run around the passenger train instead of using the Kehrschleife. Of course, that would turn the locomotive, and maybe they don't want that.

Excellent stuff. Intrigued by the running-round at Stiege. I expected the train to use the balloon loop, but that would reverse the loco.
