My father was in this film. He was staying in lower slaughter while evacuated with his mother and sisters. He was an extra in the film, around 6yrs old at the time. He appears on and off; seen riding his bike and is the blonde boy called "Finch" from the classroom scene. He said that a national newspaper ran a double page spread about the filming and I would desperately like to get hold of a copy of this.

Well, my dad was very young at the time but remembers it being a centre spread piece. He thinks it was the Daily Mirror but isn't sure. He was even quoted in the article itself. He was actually living on a farm but Lipsbury Lea (Lower Slaughter) was the local village and he went to school there. The film crew brought everyone involved in the film up to London to do the indoor shots. Put them up in a nice hotel. Lots of the locals were included in the picture as extras.

The major scene in the film where the crowds turn out to hear the Russian soldier talk is the section of road in Upper slaughter where it descends down to the ford.

Hey there thank you for this interesting piece. As per the newspaper yes it would be interesting to get hold of that. Maybe if you knew what newspaper it was they may have copies from back then, That is if the paper is still running of course. Might be an idea to find out who ran the story and probably for a small fee the newspaper might be able to provide you with a back copy. Keep me posted on any updates? Thank you again
