Everyone talks about Elton's vocals, which of course are timeless and great, but his piano playing is also just amazing. He has such a strong and steady rhythm on the keys and never breaks a beat while singing. Plus he adds so much texture in voicing and harmonic structure to augment the vocals, it's just a true gift.
My friend saw him and was there that day! He sees her after and is like, don't you think you should give others a chance to meet me? She's like???? He said, you were the one who jumped in front of my limo at Madison square garden last year! (He remembered her! She did do that!) She was a 60s 70s og Elton fan. She was at a couple of his homes and has flown to his shows. Haven't talked to her IN YEARS!
What??!! He's never sounded better than he does here! This is a phenomenal performance. His voice deepened and aged into a much much better sound than his seventies squeak (great as that was).
1997 was the best year for his voice post surgery imo. he had a suuuper nasal sounding voice he developed in the early 80s, by 97 that nasal sound was completely gone and he sounded much clearer and still had good range and could sustain high notes well (compared to now lol). to me, his 1997 vocal tone and pronunciation sounded much like his 70s voice, just deeper
What do you mean? It's impressive that he could still reach that "He" note even though whatever happened to his throat already happened and he lost his falsetto more and more (also the drugs i'd think)
we the mid 80s. he had surgery for nodules (small cyst like growths) on the vocal chords. they are a result of overuse, which can happen to singers. listen to his 1987 album Live in Australia which was the last concert he gave before his surgery, you can hear the difference in his voice
He's said openly that his voice was shot from the amount of drugs he was doing, particularly the massive amount of marijuana he would smoke on a regular basis.
wow, when did his voice go bad? I can understand why he sounds so bad now...he's 65 years old or something around there, but this is 1996...I guess he hasn't sounded good since the early 80s, when he had an amazing voice
Just think about this video for a second. This is one guy with a piano on live TV busting out this song. It is amazing.
in my opinion this is where his voice is at his prime my all time fave absolute legend !
He sounds incredible here.

The greatest pianist and musician
Possibly my favorite performance of Levon, definitely my number one post surgery.
I have to agree other than seeing him play it live :P
He f’n killed it on this one.
Levon has been my kareoke song for 15 years I always do it justice
Colleen A Fleming Fleming it’s a tough song
The performance that Elton John did on the Rosie O' Donnelly show was fuckin' passionate and great performance
This got to be my favorite version of this song for me. Even with the post surgery he still sounds good and he still had some vibrato in his voice
His voice was the best during the mid 90s I think
Think so too. Depth and volume are awesome. I like it better than his voice in the 1970s.
His voice was best during 1972-early 1974 for his original voice, for his deep richer voice, his voice was best during 1992-early 1998
1985 in my opinion his best preop voice, the late 90s are the times with the best postop voice.
What about 1987-1990
I love 90's Elton's voice
No auge da carreira !!! Que batida de piano !!!!!
Such a unique beautiful song!!!!
Absolutely brilliant!
ahh Levon Elton John, thank you for being here!
I love Elton John I like
#Mint Piano Solo absolute legend 🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒
Louie Cosgrove on live tv no less

Love this thanks for posting! :-)
Just because it's deeper doesn't mean it's bad by any means.
His voice began declining around 2000 or so, but he still sounds great even to this day! There is a difference between "going bad" and deepening!

the "lion king" elton...

Etlon didn't entirely lose his falsetto like he claimed after his throat surgery. He just couldn't go as high after it.
In 2020 he still uses falsetto in "Levon". Its his doctor's advice that prevents him do a lot of high notes.

Levon (1996)
I think his voice sounds absolutely lovely here. I don't think the acoustics were that good, nor the recording.
