I was at this show. I remember being numb and in awe of his talent, especially during this rendition of Levon. Hearing this in person, with the amazing acoustics of Radio City Music Hall, has never been matched in any of my concert experiences, before or after. And that’s saying a lot

I love Elton. His concerts are amazing, He gives a salt to his worth in givings. And I am from a brit comings to a raw in country. So gifted for my ancestors givings.
I began listening to Elton John in the car with my older sister Susan! When she got her drivers license when I was just six years old. Susan would pick me up from school, we would get a slushy,go for a ride and listen to Elton on the 8 track tape player in the car! The car was my grandfathers big old Oldsmobile and it was MAGICAL for a six year old. I felt so cool and it is one of my best memories with my sister! How many of you remember 8 track tapes?
I do. Had near 100. Oh, well, days past. Had Piano Man and the cassette with Rocket Man on it. I loved those cassettes and I could listen to Candle in the Wind all day long.
8 tracks were obsolete by the time I was born in '89, however when I was real young I remember riding with my Aunt Debbie (she's been gone for 20 years now) in her Oldsmobile Cutless Supreme listening to Billy Joel on 8 track in her 1978 Oldsmobile Cutless Supreme on the way to a family reunion. I was 7 or 8 at the time.
I was trained in classical music but then I heard Elton play this and my whole world changed. I tried playing the piano on my knees and my mother heard the music but she couldn't find me! I have adored him for years and always will. Thank you Elton and Bernie.
Elton John is the BEST performer I have ever known. No singer can duplicate his piano performances or singing. His songs are amazing... ELTON JOHN IS A LEGEND!!!!!!
This human had so much talent and ability to tell a story, and grab everyone's attention. Don't care what his lifestyle was , but as for me he's Sir Elton, I'm 65yrs old and I've been there with him all these years and ain't going to leave him now
This song is one of my favorites of Sir Elton! Sir Elton genuinely enjoys singing this song, I can tell, & he sings it with gusto & pride!! A great song sung, Sir Elton, thank you! 😊🎉❤
I remember my mom watching this and I came into the room when he started singing this song and I just sat down and from that day on I have been hooked on Elton John. Great musician, great songs!!!
I LIVED the chorus - In 1966 NY Time Magazine had a Cover with the headline - IS GOD DEAD IN 1971 NY TIME Magazine had a Cover with the words JESUS REVOLUTION - I believed the former - Someone came to find me for the latter
Yea, his songs are strong. Only really Steely Dan sit up there with him in song depth, when it comes to the white R&B pop rock thing. Michael McDonald too actually.
I'd be honored if some Elton John fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of LEVON and ROCKET MAN on my YT channel in tribute to the masters of 20th century composition and lyrics (Elton and Bernie Taupin). Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace.
dangermarc350 I read somewhere recently that basically musically he’s in the league of Mozart and that we don’t appreciate what an absolute genius he is really because he’s always been so flashy and such a showman but in 200 years people will still be talking about his melodies alongside the classicists because that’s what he is.
Elton's masterpiece. "Levon." Best music he ever wrote, IMO. Entire 1970s, Elton ruled. His music he released in that decade has outsold everyone else releasing music in that decade.
if you listen carefully to the lyrics the song is about a guy named Levon who is an ordinary man who lives his lives following his believes (work to get money without giving too much attention to his dreams) and Jesus, his son, wants to go sailing and enjoy live leaving his father behind to live his days until his live ends. Its brilliant!
My first concert at age 16. Saw him many times after that and watched shy young boy develop into an amazing artist. "Tumbleweed Connection" is my all time favorite. The friendship between Bernie and Elton was amazing. The benefit he did for his bandmate Davy Johnstone in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry House (I was there), outdoor sit down on a towel concerts and indoor packed to the rafters -- they were all extraordinary.
This is the most epic performance I have ever witnessed. Live or recorded. Simply epic! There is no other word to describe it! Those who gave this a thumbs down listen to Justin Bieber and rap.
Elton, I listen only to your music all day. You've touched my life, I've seen you in concert 4 times. Thank you so much for all this blessing. You're an amazing human on this planet, an extrodinary musician, entertainer, and I love your smile when you look out to the audience. I love funeral for a frend, Levon, but my very favorite is Someone saved my life tonight. God Bless you, Coletta
I am a straight man and I despise homophobes. Elton is a great man who has created beautiful music for many years. Leave his sexual orientation out of it. Just enjoy the beautiful music this man has created over the years.
Powerful!!! Love always! I saw him in the 24th row at Madison Square Gardens in 1974, for my 60th I am going back to that row to see him again!!! Love you Sir EJ for you music, voice and talent! Thank you!
I've seen Elton in 2 concerts years back, one indoors with full band, one outdoors with just a percussionist. Both fantastic. But I remember the latter when he sang "Levon" which to true Elton fans is a favorite, if not the favorite EJ song. Long live Elton!
What a rush to have been in that string section. Madman Across the Water broke new ground as it won the orchestral community's nod of approval. The lack-luster attempts in earlier recordings to "pad" pop music with strings - or something trying to sound like a string section - were shunned. The arrangements for the album by Paul Buckmaster are simply perfect.
Did you like Blue moves? Pardon me but I still think its his best work. I really do. I also saw Elton with the orchestra in 87. The show was recorded live with the MSO. Its a masterpiece.
I love when Elton smiles during a performance...sometimes i wonder if these old timers still enjoy performing or they just do it for the money? A simple smile here and there makes it more pleasurable...and makes the fans think he might actually be having fun!
I also love when Elton smiles. He clearly enjoys what he does and he isn't the only one. If you look close, you can see others smiling (I'm right there with them).
I saw Elton once again last year (2011) and he still sounds amazing. Every since he had that operation after Live in Australia. He has that soulful voice. Elton's voice is a little scratchy here, but I have seem him a number of times since 2004 and he always sounded incredible.I really wish I could see them with an orchestra.
I saw Elton John in Macon, Georgia a few years ago, "Yellow Brick Road Tour", and I am happy to report that Elton John has great respect for our military!
I was at this series of concerts, had tickets and went 3 of the 5 nights, typically sitting in the first 10 rows. Obsessive...well...but it was joy night after night
This performance gave me chills, even just watching on youtube in 2022 (18 years later! Where'd the time go!?). Superb improvisation by Sir Elton, superb orchestration and choir backing, just gorgeous.
What a demolishing ball and chain through music ! Emotional heavy metal of rock poetry. A puddle of tears on the floor under me here listening to this great song...
To take another persons writings and put your own music to them and have it come out like this is amazing. It's a great tune, great chords, melody... What am I saying, you all know these things.
This was showed to me and I'm not a fan of Elton or this genre but this seriously has to be one of the best live performances I've ever seen. What a sound. I have listened to this so many times it's nuts. I see the word Epic below to describe this, and that may just be an understatement.
My mom used to work with Elton... decided to name me after this song. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Levon Davis Awesome
Its rather nice, once you get to know it:)
Levon Davis sounds good to me :-)
Hey fellow levon😊
Levon🤙

What does that venue seat and were tickets available for public sale?? Or was it a private show?
One of the greatest performances of one of the greatest songs by one of the greatest performers of all time.
Agree
Word
Look at the decades Elton has given. Longer then most all of teamed to a mile in artists.
I love Elton. His concerts are amazing, He gives a salt to his worth in givings. And I am from a brit comings to a raw in country. So gifted for my ancestors givings.
What you said.

Elton John is the BEST performer I have ever known. No singer can duplicate his piano performances or singing. His songs are amazing... ELTON JOHN IS A LEGEND!!!!!!
Saw him Twice in Minneapolis, Mn. Very Fortunate!
And his stage persona is just as legendary
I was blessed to see him perform this at a concert in the Yarra Wine Valley, in Victoria, Australia-a highlight in my life!
Maybe George Michael.
Talent like this just doesn't exist in music anymore. Sir Elton John is a true legend!
It does actually

Matthew C. th-cam.com/video/Qiae9paO1aM/w-d-xo.html
What do you think of this version?
Facts!!!
Try Two Rooms; covers of Elton John. Bon Jovi does a great version. In fact, all the artists are amazing (Clapton, Collins et al)
Elton is a living legend...fiiling my life with great music for over 40 years now..and somehow he just keeps getting better...PEACE
I named my dog Levon after hearing this song. He was a stray but he's cool now.
That is awesome!
I remember my mom watching this and I came into the room when he started singing this song and I just sat down and from that day on I have been hooked on Elton John. Great musician, great songs!!!
I weep for the 54 people that down voted this song... I saw Elton a couple years ago, and it was hands down the best concert that I've ever been to!
I agree, Cole Mckenzie! What is up with those down votes?! People must be listening to a different song or something...
Cole Mckenzie Their screen is upside down and wanted to like the video again lol.
Cole Mckenzie He is a legend
Cole Mckenzie Never pay attention to idiots. God bless.

I am so obsessed with this live I’ve probably watched it 30 times!!!! His voice is just so incredible! Smokey, rich, and so well controlled!
What can you say about one of the greatest songs ever written? Superb performance. Choir and orchestra brilliant!!
Thumbs up for a classic rock musician/singer who has become way better with age, like red wine. :)
He is quite simply the best live entertainer on earth
So when they say Elton is a genius (and they do) this is what they mean. Absolutely stunning.
Such a powerful voice. He seems to have a power and tone that can't be matched in the same way.
Yeah he might’ve lost his best voice, but he got his most powerful voice.
Most beautiful song in the world
Sir Elton and Bernie Taupin equals legendary greatness!
Oh my, this is beautiful.
There will never be another Elton john.
Such a classic, his songs are timeless decent songs like will be remembered for generations to come.

I'm just amazed at how well he still uses his voice after the surgery.
Elton's masterpiece. "Levon." Best music he ever wrote, IMO. Entire 1970s, Elton ruled. His music he released in that decade has outsold everyone else releasing music in that decade.

The greatest live performance of any song, period.
