I am a total doofus when it comes to anything mathematical. But your method is so plain and simple, it’s amazing! Thank you very much!❤ ❤❤❤

If you own a chainsaw or like to build things, geometry is the best math. I've always been an eye-ball it guy, but look forward to competing against this technique. Thanks for helping to keep hard work fun.

If you hold stick with hand in line with your eye, your arm is not extended 99 degrees from your body.
Is that a case where you would add the distance from your eye to your shoulder, or just line your hand with where ever it lines up on the tree from the ground then add distance from there to the ground?
Hope I am being clear with what I am asking.

But does it work exactly the same if you’re not basically level with the base of the tree? …like if a hillside has a 10/12 slope. I guess you’d need to try to stand level with the base of the tree?

This is just using the basic principle of ‘Similar Triangles’,
and hence that the ratios of the corresponding sides must be equal.

I thought you had to match the bottom of the stick with the bottom of the tree and the top of the stick with the top of the tree. You didn’t mention about matching the bottom of the stick.

I can't remember what I said in this video to be honest, but it has to be matched at eye level to keep that 90 degree angle. Then you add the 5 feet or so from eye level to the ground. If I didn't mention that, that was an oversight.

I just watched a forester do this. He then measured distance to his tree. Tape said 60 feet, the smart laser technology he had said 56 feet. Seems the tree will fall within your standing point, if you are a tree feller...
