Was just thinking pathfinder or Sawtooth on my 2007 Crux and saw your video. My bike can take 40mm and even 42 with a very straight wheel. So I ordered 38 rear and 42 front sawtooth. Now I need to try the pathfinder

My bike came with 38 pathfinders and I quickly cut both sidewalls running them at too low of pressures , but I liked them, it was beginning of covid and a friend gave me a set of 40c wtb nanos that I really liked, super good on trails and chunky gravel, I've got few hundred miles on the 42c Sawtooths and I love these tires ,fast and tons of grip !

I got these for a big gravel bike tour, Spain to Switzerland. Ended up hitting a big pothole at speed and dented both (!!) rims, but these tyres survived. Just threw in tubes and kept going.
Once they wear out a bit the center section is slick and you still have the nice tread on the side. Also want to give the pathfinders a try, but I have another few thousand Kms on these before I can justify it.

I've been riding on Sawtooths 700x42's with tubes, since 2017, on my gravel bike, I live in Michigan, I ride MTB on trails mostly, but when I can't get on the trails, (mud/ice/snow) I get on the gravel bike, 1/3 of all roads in Michigan are gravel. S Cal you won't need Sawtooth for snow, but in Michigan if you want to ride all year they are amazing on snow packed gravel, not ice, I think they make them from Octopi,, in a gravel race going up a big snowpacked gravel hill someone fell infront of me, I knew I was going down, but I tried to swerve to the left, on snowpack, zoom I went around, the next hill there was a train of bikes on the shoulder going up in some loose gravel, I took the middle of the road up the snowpack, and passed them all, I had known they worked on snow pack, but that gave me the confidence to use them as an advantage, I get hundereds of miles each year on Sawtooths, most miles on gravel, not snowpack, they are amazing tires. On my 4th set without any flats...

Very unique tread. So I was unsure. Thanks for the review. It was hilarious and helpful.

I have this tires and really like them. They are really easy rolling on tarmac and OK for normal not hard gravel. Bought bunch of other tires but always got back to this ones.

My gravel bike can fit 29x2.2 so I decided I wanted a light-ish & cheap commuter bike. My commuter has Rene Herse Steilacoom 38mm front and Barlow Pass 38mm rear, both in the Endurance casing. Yes it's pricey tire setup but fairly tough tire and rolls well on gravel & road.

On my 2nd set of 42mm sawtooths. Was really impressed at how long the 1st lasted with a nearly 300lb rider. Also Picked up gravel king ss+ in 43mm recently and even though they are lighter I'm just not jiving with them as much. Need to do a tire swap on my bikes between the gravel king ss and sawtooths to see if it's the bikes or the tires making the difference. Just picked up sawtooths in 38mm to see how that does, but havent tried them yet.

Great video. I currently have Conti Double Fighters which are rated as 37 have you ever measured them?
I'm considering Conti Contacts or Michelin Protek or Bontrager H2. What would you go with? My frame struggles with 37 mm in wet conditions

How's riding on a wet pavement road? Does it slide?

    • @cyclinginsoutherncalifornia

It’s a tire designed for dirt not wet pavement. I wouldn’t buy it if you want to ride or turn on wet pavement. Get a different tire

Hi - need some advise to select the right gravel tire. I currently have the Bontrager GR2 Team Issue Gravel Tire (700c 40mm) - but get flats all the time (even when i ride on the normal street - 1 week riding - flat - 4 flats on the back tire, 1 flat on the front tire in the last 4 weeks). I got the Tannus Armour Tire Inserts - but that doesnt fix the flat problem. Can you recomment me another gravel tire (which is good regarding puncture restistance)? which one has the best quality and prevents flats panaracer, Vittoria, Continental or WTB or something else? My terrain: Road and also some Offroad (forrest with gravel and fine sand - similar to where you are). I would say 60% road, 40% offroad.
I have a Trek Dual Sport 3 2020 with these rims: Bontrager Tubeless Ready Disc, 32-hole, presta valve
