- Motoring experts warn that flip-flops could spell trouble for drivers, as wearing them might violate a Highway Code rule which says that footwear or clothing must not get in the way of controlling a vehicle. Should drivers be fined for wearing flip-flops?

Exactly. Why are they trying to act like it is some new thing. When I did my driving lessons (decades ago!) my driving instructor said flip flops are NOT safe to drive in!

I wear flip flops all the time driving. Nothing has happened before. Not slippery. Drive carefully. In hot countries, people wear them all the time.
Driving wearing flip flops is Very dangerous, one does NOT have full control of the pedals.

It's not illegal to drive in the UK wearing any specific shoes (or no shoes!), however, it compromises safety and can land you with a driving without due care and attention charge.
If you are the relative of someone killed by a flip flop driver you wouldn't warble on about the nanny state. There are structured sandals and walking sandals which don't move around on your feet. Wear those to drive!

Should be illegal to wear them outside of the home, health centre or beach.
If im going somewhere where I'd like to wear flip flops, I'll wear regular shoes to drive, but will carry the flip flops and change into them then change back for driving. It not hard to do! 🤷🏼♀️
Also think steering wheel covers should also be banned for a mot it would fail so it shouldn’t be in use day to day either

Ok... my question becomes what about strappy sandals because my driver instructor got on my case arguing the same thing would happen with them when my question is how? If they're literally secured to my foot then how can they slide the same way as a flip flop or slider.
I mean, in general I would advise just wear shoes that cover your toes because even if your foot doesn't slide the pedals could still nick your toes.
But surely if it's a shoe that is secured to your foot and covers your toes, it's suitable footwear right? Branding every type of sandal as unsafe as a flip flop is simply not true because they don't all go on the foot the same way.

Im on here looking forba vid to show me how people are so dumb they get their flipperflopper caught on a pedal, cuz I've worn flips flops every year for 10+ yrs and it's never happened but I know it DOES happen (just heard a girl say she rear ended another car cuz she wears flip flops driving but also shes kind of a duncecap generally). What are they doing differently that allows this to happen?
