- Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan in parliament on Monday (Nov 6) laid out the principles underpinning the Singapore government's position on the Israel-Hamas war.
One principle is that all states have the legitimate and inherent right to defend themselves, as enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. "This is a very important principle for Singapore, and have no doubt - if Singapore is ever attacked, we would certainly assert and exercise the right of self-defence," he said.
Dr Balakrishnan added that all countries must ensure that if military action is taken in exercising this right of self-defence, they abide by principles of "necessity and proportionality". Any alleged violations of international humanitarian law in the Israel-Hamas war should be investigated in accordance with international law, he said. cna.asia/47hqKSE

First of all when you say 'Israel in Palestine' - that itself shows your education level and your ignorance of Israel and its history.
Israel existed long long before Palestine. Actually, a pagan emperor, Roman Emperor Hadrian changed the provincial administrative name of Judea to Palestine to erase the Jewish presence in the land- just to snub Israel. Palestine means "the land of Philistines". There was not a single Philistine in the world then or now. & the Arab Muslims in Palestine are not Philistines either.

Just on a factual point, I would like to add that in the past, over decades, the Palestinian leaders were given several offers of compromise, all of which were rejected by them. The Gaza Strip could have been an economic, tourist oasis and a quality place to live, if not for Hamas educating its citizens, from the day they were born, to violence and hatred of Israelis and Jews. As a result - the innocent citizens suffer.

Hello, I totally agree, look at the mature way Singapore Foreign Minister address this issue. I was surprised to see the extent he went to console the Palestinians. Its really exemplary, shows why Singapore is such a peaceful country.
There are hard working Malaysians trying to change the standards our government adheres to. But as the great LKY said, Malaysia will stay where it is economically as long as it keeps the state and religion connected. I'm not a racist, I love the Agung-Agung for being caring to the non Malays and will always advocate for peaceful Islam religion. Anyway it's a bigger issue than I'm qualified to speak on. My opinion is still only held by a minority in Malaysia and East Malaysians. So there's a long way to go. We may never have achieved the dream of unification together but SG brothers and sisters... This man brought a very important issue for small Nations. I feel strongly that India should give an umbrella of security for all the small Nations in South & South East Asia. However, India needs to be vary if Chinese intents in South & South East Asian countries such as Maldives & Sri Lanka. We need to keep a distance from these two countries. India should not have extended Financial revival for Sri Lanka as it shows its tail to India & Heads to China.
