My son just got his learner's permit in May and has been eyeing my 95 F-150 which is still a baby with just under 99K miles on it. I got him with a 2014 F-150 XL fleet truck when the price got right for $7K. I didn't want him wrecking my truck. Now the trash can get hauled off in his truck.
I think a great "classic" car to get into for someone who doesn't know much about working on cars and has a budget is a Volvo 240. For the most part, euro cars should be avoided, but the old RWD Volvos are a completely different breed. I have had 3 of them in the past, currently own one which was my first car that I have had for 6 years now. I am nowhere near a mechanic, but the 240 is a very easy to work on car, it is very forgiving, and there is a TON of documentation for about everything you would need or want to know. The parts are also easy to find and inexpensive. On top of that, they are extremely reliable and will run forever, I sold one earlier this year with 340k miles and it still drove like new. They are also extremely practical for daily use as a car, and for hauling stuff if you have the wagon version, both the sedan and the wagon have a TON of room compared to most cars. On top of all of that, if you are in to modifying cars (I strongly dislike it, but some people want to mess with things) the 240 has a HUGE engine bay, a ton of room to work, and is very modable.
S10 96 to 04 with the spiders injection sucks I had 4 headaches I’d take a a 95 and older S10 with tbi or carburetor and obs fords are so easy to work on and parts are everywhere where I live junkyards have many obs Chevy and fords junked for the dumbest stuff…
You started as " get what you don't have" then just go straight to trucks and jeeps. 😂 I mean I love them but, think showing more options targeted towards " project for what you need" such as "commuter, offroader, small truck, big truck, luxury, vintage" would have been much better video.

I picked up a 96 Cutlass ciera. Fixed it up looks real nice too made it my daily driver.
Now on to a 1992 GMC suburban 4X4.
