  • I was tumbling rocks and I had a thought-what would happen if you mixed all the grits together in one batch? What would happen to the rocks? So in this video-I did just that! It was a pretty fun experiment and I did not expect the results in the end! I hope you enjoy!

    If you think about it, tumbling around in a lot of differently sized particles and water is what beach rocks do, so it makes sense that they wound up fairly smooth!

    Not what I expected at all! I figured that the coarse grit would just overpower everything else and it'd be like any coarse run, just less effective. I was surprised at the shine at the end!

    I've left my rocks tumble for a month before. I was in the process of moving from grandparents and didnt wanna move them in between stages. Honestly they turned out WAY better just leaving them. Now I don't mind leaving them run longer. I kinda wanna try this in a 12lb tumbler and see what happens

    I would split this process in two.
    First tumble them with the larger grits and then tumble with the polishing grits seperately. That should give the polishing compounds a change to do their job better.

    it looks like it affected the hard rocks and the soft rocks way differently possibly and what I was saying I think some of that white in the cracks might come out with the Borax in the last week or so of turning I pick that up on a TH-cam somewhere and it really works nicely to clean it up and bring it to a high polish I wasn't getting a high polish before I added borax for some reason I don't know what I was doing wrong but the borax kicked it up a notch☺️

    • @AgateAriel
      @AgateAriel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would think after just a week the more courser grit would have been the more cutting grit so it would more stage 1 shape. Since it was a month the grit broke down to get as a lot of folks have said beach rock smooth.

  • @graphitebendy
    @graphitebendy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think the reason it worked as well as it did was the size difference. When the course grit was fresh, it would have been used more than the finer stages. As it wore down, the finer stages would be making more contact with the rocks.

  • @mattwodziak1750

    I AM EXPERIMENTING STARING WITH FIRST STAGE GRIT AND THEN ON UP TO THE LAST STAGE JUST ADDING THE NEXT GRIT STAGE ON UP. That was an interesting experiment. I really didnt expect much to happen at all but that was after a week, with a month of tumbling, a lot more polishing action happened then i expected. They actually turned out way better than i expected. Im wondering if you had used some ceramic media, in the barrels, to keep them from banging each other up and chipping them, how much better they would have been. Im thinking with a lot of them, you can easily just put them in with just the step four polish, and some media to keep from chipping up and cracking, and they would be beautiful. Cool experiment idea!

    • @taytribe806
      @taytribe806 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have an idea for a follow up experiment! What would happen if you tumbled for 2 weeks, then rinsed and added the same ratios of powder again? This test wasn't just having everything together - it also used only a quarter of the usual amount of grit! So two weeks with everything (a total of two times) would be really cool to see.
      It would also be really cool to see two weeks with steps 1 and 2, and then two weeks with steps 3 and 4 (one tablespoon each)!
