You could activate it with an OBD , by default it's not activated.

When swapping an original cluster it needs to be virginized and coded to make sure the car doesnt think someone tampered with the odometer. How does this unit handle that?

Yeah, I would say the only thing is that unfortunately you can't see the service info on the iDrive system
(You have to insert it manually)
