Great video buddy!! I bought the R36S from aliexpress. think it was £39.99 all in. its a fantastic machine for the price. After fidling around with a retro pi setup, i just pulled the trigger. Retro pi is fine when dealing with a virtual arcade box for 2+ people but it's a pita to set up for your 10 to 20 minutes in the evening of "gaming". Aliexpress was generous enough to offer it for 41€ shipped. Thanks!
Good video Mark. You sound less comfortable than switch up. Your humour, relaxed delivery and abuse of the English language makes that channel great. The r36s looks like a 'barjian'. Mine is on the way. I look forward to more. All the best.
It is currently $58aud on AliExpress. I’m torn between this, RP2S and RG405V. I like the idea of a vertical handheld, but though I’m unsure about the R36S not having wifi, it is ~1/4 the price of the others I mentioned. The RP2S metal version is $50usd more expensive than the plastic one, but runs considerably cooler from what I’ve seen. Not sure I want to spend nearly $300aud on a 3.5” handheld. The RG405V seems like the best choice, having a bigger battery, bigger screen and apparently is super comfortable, but it’s quite bulky.
Thought I recognized the voice....I just got the rg35xx as an entry into these devices as wasn't sure how they felt. Pretty happy with it so far, would like a device for PS2 next.
Ordered the transparent purple one from Amazon a few days ago and just stumbled across Mr Walker's new channel a few minutes ago. Hope the channel does well. :-)
I had one of these and within 5 days the charger port just stopped working lmao, ordered a miyoo mini plus which I can't wait for. I also got a full refund from AliExpress for the r36s, so I can't complain too much
Great video. Was going to pick up a miyoo mini plus but saw the R36s on sale on Ali for €26 today and I couldn’t pass it up. Fingers crossed for a good unit.
I just pulled the trigger on an xu10 instead of an r36, because they were both on sale and it was only about $5 more. It’s got a very very slightly better chipset, rk3326s instead of rk3326, and the ergonomics look a little better, the buttons are very slightly better quality and less clicky. The only downsides were the firmware it ships with has some really annoying settings, like a video every time it boots up, but AmberELEC has a build out for it now. Oh, and the max screen brightness is slightly lower than the r36, and it doesn’t have a battery door, but both of those are very minor.
@@budgetking2591 the only thing I can think of is a plan to make accessories cheaply, which need something to clip onto. But it’s probably just a designer who wanted something different looking. From the reviews I’ve seen, they don’t get in the way though, and are smaller than the shoulder buttons so anything that would get caught on that would have already been caught on those.
@@kayeoffers4339 who? Everything I’m seeing says the rk3326s quad core a35 clocked at 1.6ghz instead of the rk3326 clocked at 1.5ghz. Even powkiddy’s site still has that listed, so it wouldn’t be a hardware design change, right?

Enjoyed this video, 100% my vibe and thus subscribed! :) FWIW i've just ordered one of these, hopefully it will arrive next week, I also have an Odin 2 Pro due next week as well.
I'm looking to get one a retro handheld- up to about a 100 pound. (I'm currently signed off work for a few months). I've got a galaxy S20 FE phone though. It emulates everything ive thrown at it, and the screen is gorgeous. Sowould I be better off with a USB C controller though?
I find it weird that there is no website that has a updated version of the firmware of the r36s, I tried the RG351MP, but was greeted with a white screen, and also the boot drive files did not match the files of the factory firmware. Updating failed 2 times after recovering the original firmware. One time, the games did not load anymore, and the second time, the update would not be completed without failing. I'm afraid that the R36s firmware has a lot of customizations that the R35s stock firmware doesn't have.
R36s is a good machine for starting, but let's say quality is decent at best and they seem to have a bit higher failure rate than other products in the 50-60$ bracket. I'm not a fan of analog sticks on a vertical format, so I'd go for an RG35XX Plus for better build quality and nicer dpad, front and shoulder buttons (and wifi+bluetooth presence).
For sure the quality is mediocre overall - very cheap feeling materials. I have a new device in that is the same price and in my opinion is better in almost every way
i did the ota update through the device itsself and it worked, at least i thought, all kind of stuff was missing. I advice just loading the newest os onto the sd yourself.
What firmware do you use? I tried the rg351mp, a lot of new files in the boot in comparison with the factory firmware, and also white boot screen after installing the firmware. I got a backup of the original firmware, I tried doing an update twice, but the first time, most games couldn't boot, and the second time, the update ended prematurely and didn't succeed after that. Did you find any speed upgrades or useful features after the update?
For the price? A PSP 1000 from Ali Express goes for abut $60. No emulators in that price range can 100 percent emulate PSP, so the best bet is to just run original hardware. Otherwise a Retroid Pocket 3 or 4 can run PSP upscaled with save state support for $150, so its all about what you find important and how much you want to spend.
