My Uncle Irv was a gunner on a Dauntless and shot down in the battle of the Philippines sea. He survived over a year as a POW. He made it through and lived into his 90s. Ten thousand thumbs up Uncle IRV!

Frame [4:20] Ace of Spades. VMSB-231 then. VMA-231 when I was in. And VMFA-231 now. The first aircraft squadron in Marine Corps history.

My Dad was a Corsair pilot with VMF441 (Blackjacks) March 1944 to March 1945 flying off or Roi-Namur. VMBF231 (Ace of Spades) flew SBD, SB2C-4 & F4U-1 off of Majuro October 1944 to September 1945

WHY do I see so many images of SBD's diving on IJN carriers from an angle to the carrier's centerline (length wise) ? I woud assume that diving from the stern of the target lining up on to its center line, towards the target's bow would give a dive bomber pilot much more chance to correct for wind and for evasive actions by the ships ? Also, I did not see many images showing SBD's making a "shoulder roll" just before entering the dive, although such roll would be the preferred way ? This opposed to Stuka bombers often seen rolling over the shoulder.

Impresionante registro. Esos Corsair son una belleza.. Serían las Islas Marshall?

"Those Corsairs are a beauty.. They would be the Marshall Islands"
Yes, exactly! The film has listed locations as "Majuro, Marshall Islands; Mili Atoll".

I wish there was audio. But at least there's no awful music playing.
