Because of the 2008 financial crisis, now what we're gonna get is some lame tower that's practically just a rectangle leaning. Very disappointed that they somehow can build that, but not the spire. It's on hold, so hopefully it gets cancelled and have a chance for the original. "Build that Spire!"
Sorry to tell you, but this 2000 foot tall turkey has not gotten off the ground! They dug the hole for the foundation...and then had to stop the entire project. If you do some research, you will find that this happened several years ago. Construction has not resumed, according to my sources, and is not likely to resume any time in the near future.
DeedsResearcher not true. the company related Midwest which now owns this property is going to announce plans to build which most believe will be a super tall skyscraper at this site. probably another 2000 footer but it will look different . they've already picked an architect for it who said it will have a huge impact on the skyline and will be relieving the plans sometime this year
What part of my statement is "not true"? They did dig the hole for the foundation. There is no question about that. They did stop all work on the construction site. That is not in doubt. To date, construction of The Spire has not resumed. That is also not in doubt. I presume that...instead of "relieving the plans", you mean "RELEASING" the plans. Anyone can "release plans", but that does not mean construction is going to begin immediately. Considering that we are talking about Chicago, I also have to wonder about certain "other elements" in the city....who will probably want their palms greased in one manner or another before signing off on anything. That would start with the union bosses, and only God knows where it will end! lol It is safe to presume that due to a different design, new steel girders will have to be made to fit correctly. That takes time. New glass for the windows will have to be made, or re-designed, etc etc. All of that takes time, and cannot be done overnight. I really do wish them good luck, and if and when this gets underway I will follow it closely. Just remember that at some 2000 feet, it will be over 1200 feet shorter than the tallest building in the world....which is currently under construction... the Jeddah Tower (a/k/a/ "Kingdom Tower"). That one Is slated to be roughly 1000 meters tall....over 3200 feet!
I am sad that this project was cancelled. Was looking forward to see it. It is a beautiful design. :(
I hope this gets built one day!
Actually it woulded be the tallest in the world.
Sadly it won’t.but it will be replaced with a smaller twin buildings that are probably beginning construction soon.
I had made arrangements to buy an apartment there. Now it's just tears when I see this
if they build that its gonna be one of the first twisted skyscrapers in north america
I love this skyscraper! Why did they even cancel it!?
Gymnastics Lover1134 Unfortunately, the architect who was gonna build it went bankrupt so they couldn't build it....
recession of 2008

Why is Sepiks Prime Theme from Destiny 1 the backround music? Not complaining. Lol
If they would have made this tower, it would have been taller than the One World Trade center
