I disagree. She had a small voice that was highly amplified. She had very good training on interpretation more so than having a trained voice. Linda Ronstadt, on the other hand had a strong, emotional voice that actually drew the listener to it.

@drosh413 david Actually, I've had more than 15 years of voice training with some of the best voice teachers in Southern California. Karen Carpenter never sang anything that required a strong voice or much range. Karen Carpenter's voice was highly amplified and a trained ear could hear it.

I disagree. She had a small voice that was highly amplified. She had very good training on interpretation more so than having a trained voice. Linda Ronstadt, on the other hand had a strong, emotional voice that actually drew the listener to it.

She more close to my "" music taste "then the Carpenters. But there is something with Karens voice that is hard to explain for me. Karen's drumming on this cut is SUPERB! Listen to those fills -- so satisfying and yet never overbearing. Do try to find live recordings to review (not lip-synced) so you can watch her play and sing. She was a musical genius -- and so was her brother, who did all the arrangements and most of the A&R work. For example, he heard this song for just a few seconds in a bank commercial, tracked down the songwriter, and adapted it for Karen. Although she is front and center on these recordings, he is ever present in the arrangements.
