    In 1971, during boot camp with the USAF in Lackland Tx. I volunteered for Pararescue, but was denied because I was underweight by ten pounds. Later in life after the Airforce I started sport skydiving and became a Jumpmaster and first jump Instructor and AFF Instructor. How my life would have changed if I had been ten pounds heavier.

    Not a HALO jump. FAA regulations require that pilots use oxygen above 14,000 feet, and that jumpers use it above 15,000 feet. I couldn't see the pilot clearly, but the jumpers obviously didn't need oxygen. 14,000 feet MSL is a pretty standard jump altitude for drop zones in the U.S. Based on the freefall time, I'm guessing that that's where they were jumping from. I can't rule out 15,000 feet, but it's clear that this is not a HALO jump by any standard (although it is higher than your run-of-the-mill helicopter jump).

      This is a halo jump I just had to take a 4 day class on high altitude jumps thought by a gunnery Sgt yes haho is part of halo, it's pretty interesting but god damn it was boring

    • @Gung_Ho_Vids

      +chris lopez It is a HALO jump. I trust these guys from Moody. Nobody knows it better. You may not like the way it looks, but these guys know much more than any of you. Thank you chris lopez for getting some expertise in the conversation.

    • @aetius4516
      @aetius4516 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gung Ho Vids Sorry, no. It's not a HALO or a HAHO. I didn't criticize it for the way it LOOKS. I criticized it for the fact that the jumpers aren't using any kind of supplemental oxygen (neither in the aircraft nor during freefall). That means that their exit altitude was under 15,000 ft MSL--i.e., not a HALO or a HAHO. I don't like to call myself an expert because I know way too many people who're more experienced and skilled than I am, but I do have 285 skydives, including 3 HALOs (from an exit altitude of ~30,000 ft MSL), including 1 night HALO--more than enough to know the difference between a HALO and a 14k helicopter jump.
      It's entirely possible that these guys were training in preparation for HALO jumping, but this doesn't qualify as one.

      Aetius451 I believe these guys are from Moody if my memory serves. I wonder why they put it up as HALO. That's not from me, that from them.

    Do PJ's ever actually need to parachute when deployed though? Like in a real-life situation? Most of what I see tends to be helicopter stuff. How common is it to have to parachute?

    • @spencerstewart883
      @spencerstewart883 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's mostly used by the guys in Special Tactics Squadrons because they deploy with other SOF units like SEALs and SF guys not used much by the Rescue Squadrons

      If I had to guess, its a Halo jump and its approx. 10,000 feet my man.

    • @wojteksykurski
      @wojteksykurski 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaysaini955 HALO jumps are made at much higher altitude (up to 45 000 teet, usually around 35 000). You also have the HAHO jumps: the same altitude but You open parachute 3-5 seconds after living the plane. Then the jumper can fly up to 30-40 miles, being almost invisible to radars.

      @@wojteksykurski Do you think its static line instead?

    • @wojteksykurski
      @wojteksykurski 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaysaini955 no - this one is normal free style jump from between 4 and 4.5 km. You have around 50 seconds of free fall and open parachute at 1000 meters. Static line jumps are performed at much lower altitude and the parachute is open automatically when You leave the plane - You don't have any free fall there.
