First, it doesn't just protect "property". Circuit breakers *definitely do save lives* and *that is what they're actually for.* It's just not in the way a lot of people think. Protecting property is just a side-benefit. If the wiring in your walls catches on fire, it's not just some property that's in danger, it's also all of the *people* who happen to be inside *a now burning building* too. Circuit breakers prevent *fires* and preventing fires *saves lives.* Far more people die every year from house fires than from electrical shocks, actually.
