I’ve got to say, this video has the perfect talking to playing ratio. I always find myself getting bored just watching playing examples over and over with no actual talking about the instrument. Nice review!
@@AmosHeller Parallel slap with the bass and treble boosted definitely is my favorite. Out muscles a Stingray 5. Love your reviews. Chops are on point and your audio quality is dynamite!!
Thank you! And I agree about the parallel setting. For some reason I tricked myself into playing in series a lot (since the output is louder), but that stingray clarity really comes through with a parallel setting. Thank you for watching and for the kind words!
That B is proof that multiscale is not the solution but a preference. All scale length can sound good with proper setings and eq if needed. Great video has usual! Cheers from Québec!!
@@ileutur6863 I would have to agree. It's a matter of physics. I've had several high end non-multiscale 5 strings and if I ever buy another it'll be multiscale. You can get them sounding "good" but the B string never feels the same as the others.
Fantastic review Amos as usual. What a great sounding bass. Like yo7 I am more familiar with their jazz, p, and hybrid PJ basses, but this is something different and cool. There’s a purity to a single pickup bass in the sweet spot!
@@AmosHeller THAT'S AMAZING! I really wanted his 5 string thunderbird copy that fit the Dethklok style but now I'm very much not that kinda bassist. I'm definitely a fan of the traditional shapes. Know of anyk spot in nashville I could get hands on with a Mike Lull? After I built the warmoth this year i'm pretty comfy, but the GAS is real. I'd spring for a Lull maybe in a p bass config haha.
So... why you gotta be mad doggin' me bro? I was pretty sure you were wanting to fight me through the passive demo. Good thing the black box came up lol. I was wondering what that sexy piece of bass you used on the Jonas cover was. It's gorgeous and a fantastic selection of bits and pieces in it. I love it but dang they're expensive. I'm sure they're worth the coin though. Well built instruments usually are imo.
Inadvertently Mad Dogging your viewers isn’t recommended. 😎 I couldn’t believe it when I went into editing. Yeah this bass is a monster. And yeah not cheap. But in the hands you can feel where the $$ is being spent.
@@AmosHeller Really, it's not bad at all. I didn't really notice until I saw the comments in the video. Cracked me up and I had to chime in lol. Well played sir.
I believe it is intended to make the B string feel better. It’s not about tension as through body or through bridge has no effect on string tension (same gauge, same tuning, same scale length = same tension). IMHO over 35+ years of playing hundreds/thousands of 5 and 6 strings, it makes no difference and introduces a tight bend in a thick string, which adds to the risk of damaging the string core. Through bridge with a tapered B is my preference.
Burp possible. In split mode it’s a single coil near the bridge so that’s a good start. And in parallel mode it’s more or less a stingray so your aquatic burp becomes available. In general, I found that it *will* do burp with proper RH position and approach.
The growl on that sucker is glorious
I concur!
THe merciless eye contact makes the video tbh lol. Great review man! as always.
Excellent video! Excellent bass! And I have to say, I love your sense of humor man! Came for the bass, but now I’m staying for you.

Awesome review of a killer bass. That thing sounds great.
That Nordstrand BigMan pickup is so beefy!
It’s pretty great! Much beef. Very wow.

Nah its still the solution. Piano builders figured it out centuries ago, us bass players are still stubborn and conservative

A good B is not dictated by the scale length, but different scale lengths (AND pickup/s and its/their placement!) sound different...

I've wanted a Lull since I met Bryan Beller on a Dethklok tour. Beautiful pieces of work.
Bryan is the best. I believe this neck is made to his specifications!

Sadly I don’t...Low End Bass Shop has them from time to time, and Gruhn’s has some great stuff too
Epic finale! :)
You know I had to do it. :)
@@AmosHeller Very "Burpy"!
Great job as usual, Amos!

Rip Mike...
Just play & review for us, superb!
Every time I take my bass into their shop I get to touch and play things I will never afford lol!
Lull always ooze quality, thanks for sharing
Very cool! Almost like a jazz/p/stingray hybrid
Lots of stingray in here for sure!

I certainly asked for it!
Nice bass. I’m just curious why they made only the B string capable of being strung through the body?

I hope I am wrong with this but did Lull not pass away a couple of years ago? Great video
Spencer (his son) took on the company....
Sounded great. Was the B-string a little floppy? I thought I heard more rattle from it than the other strings.
B felt good to me-might be a function of setup/enthusiasm
fyi John, the floppiness of a string has nothing to do with the instrument (other than its scale length obviously)
I really want to hear your take on the Spector Dimension....
Send one over and I’ll check it out!
Would you say it has a burpy sound?

Great stuff as usual Amos !!!!
