- In this video, we'll learn how to paint some incredible details on the weapons for your 1/35 scale model figures! The devil is in the details, as they say… so be sure to spend time on your figures' weapons & really make those details pop!
For today's demo, we'll check out this fantastic Tamiya 1/35 scale Sturmgewehr 44, or StG 44 (or even MP-44!), the very first practical assault rifle ever used in combat. Featuring an intermediate 8mm Kurz cartridge, select-fire options & a substantially-improved rate-of-fire compared to the main German battle rifles of the day, the StG 44 proved to be a highly-effective & sought-after weapon by German troops & Allied souvenir hunters.

After 20 figures with Passion Models photo etched wrapon straps, I found the devil. It was in the details.
Very nicely done Hank! Thank you
Thank you - much appreciated!
I usually finish my weapons with a pencil. That drybrushing looks amazing! I should give it a try
That's a great technique, too! 👍
Great stuff. I especially like your suggestion to use photo resources.
Glad to hear it - thanks!
Thanks for the info.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome work Hank! I noticed you left the rifle on the sprue, great idea. Thank you for sharing your work. BTW, I just picked up those American soldiers by Tamiya.
Thanks! And enjoy - it's a great set!
Wow great job. So assuming the MG 34 and 42 would be done the same?
nice, this will also going well on painting AKs too
For sure! 👍
Love your channel would you mind doing a kr98 or a smle 303
Great tutorial, but you have any tutorial teach to paint AK-47 and AR-15?
GREAT Stuff and technique!!
I will be looking forward to building my 'Army models' a bit later in the year, but WILL be following the ideas you have posted on painting figures and weps!!
Thanks for posting!!
Yeah, yeah.....you suck....go get you some popcycle sticks and Elmer's white glue.......and you can build when they let you out of your Straight Jacket 😂
Can you do a painting tutorial for British 8th army in Africa some point down the road?
now i know what's missing in my work. Thanks a lot , but wait, is it possible to show how to put beard in a 1/35 face to make it more gaunt looking?
Don't forget the strap to add an extra element.
Awesome suggestions. Looking forward to giving the dry brushing a try on weapons. How do we become a member of the Brew Crew?
Thank you! And thanks for considering joining the Brew Club! There's a link down in the video description, or you can hit the "Subscribe" button right on my YT channel page
OK Hank, I've just starting to watch your channel and have come to the conclusion that if I'm going to start modeling, I'm going to need precision tools. Really good sprue nippers, good needle nose pliers, etc. any recommendations? I'm sure, you haver your favorites that don't cost a fortune. Please help me out here., thanks.
Great! I have a video called "5 Essential Scale Modeling Tools Under $10" with some fantastic products at a solid value. I still use them to this day! Hope that helps & happy building
Do you really need a reference book when you have a 1:1 replica?
Never can have enough references 😁
Great tip! I don't know if you got my email or not, but I'm looking for tips on how to paint figures with clear goggles. Do you have such a video?
What STG44 are you holding in the beginning?
It's a replica from the Spanish company Denix 👍
Relatable, I got a genuine Lee-Enfield so I had something to reference too when painting my WWI British soldiers rifles
How do i join the brew club
Hey there - thanks for thinking about joining the club! Pop on over to my channel page & you should see a "Subscribe" button in the top corner. Thanks!
I've seen so many otherwise nice figures ruined by lousy, generic weapons. Garands seem to be the worst offender due to their relative size.
I've got a video on painting Garands! Agreed - it can be a tough one to get right: th-cam.com/video/G-msLtMoHwg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=X_eU-VdCWMl6e5ip 👍
Yes, I saved that video to my Modeling folder.
