The older guy listening is Terry Lin who Dimash eventually calls Papa Lin, who Dimash looks up to and they have a close relationship. Love your honest reaction and enthusiasm. This is probably my favorite rendition of this song, even above Lara Fabian (she wrote the lyrics to the song), and Floor Jansen, who is also an amazing singer. I love this show, the competitors all have mutual respect for each other.

This competition is very different to our western ones. It's between professional artists with established careers. Dimash was already a professional singer in his own country and was mostly through a nationwide tour of Kazakhstan when he was invited onto the competition as a wildcard.
He was only expected to last for 2 episodes but took China by storm after the airing of the first episode.

I think Terry Lin is in his fifties. ( he is one of the contestants in the back room) and his own performances on that show were great. He invited Dimash to perform at his own concert. They formed a good friendship. In fact, Dimash was welcomed by the other contestants. Dimash is so humble, how could they not love him? You have to understand , this competition is not like X factor. These people all have good careers of their own and feel it’s a privilege to be invited on to it.

What I love about the Chinese competitors is that they don’t behave like competitors. Everyone wishes everyone luck. Everyone watches the other’s performance. Clap, sing along. In my opinion, no one begrudges the success of another. They might not have taken Dimash seriously at first, but that quickly changed after SOS. Because of his honest, cheerful and open nature, he found friends very quickly. Contacts that still exist today. Especially to Terry Lin. It’s the guy with the glasses. They had so much fun together behind the stage. Just for fun, Terry adopted Dimash and Dimash named him Papa Lin. Do not be fooled. Terry is older than he looks. He was 50 years old then. Later they performed together on stage and sang Dimash’s song Unforgettable Day together. They visit each other when they can and send each other birthday greetings. Thank you for your interest (if you’ve read it this far). You may want to see, or even react to, videos that were filmed behind the scenes of the competition. They are very interesting if you want to get to know Dimash from a different, more private side. He often looks so serious on stage and some reactors got the feeling he isn’t very funny but that’s not the case at all. He's just very focused and totally immersed in the role he has to play in the song. And nothing gets him out of it. Not often. Once in a while he lost his composure and couldn't sing anymore because of laughter.
He is pretty funny and he doesn’t take himself too seriously and he’s always joking.
The next episode of The Singer competition was Daididau.
This song is very sad and it tells about a very dark time in the history of Kazakhstan, not so long ago. To understand the song, I always advise to take the link from Gloria Wu’s channel as it shows the background story and also has English subtitles.
This song never leaves me unmoved. Even after hearing it so many times. I was at his concert in Düsseldorf and he sang this song with us Dears there too. This song is one he always performs in his concerts, plays the Dombra (a Kazakh folk instrument), and asks his Dears to sing along with him in his Kazakh language (he looks like a Kazakh Prince with his traditional clothing). Every Dear knows many of his lyrics in Kazakh and loves to sing his songs with him at his concerts.
I find it incredibly impressive and wonderful how a single man manages to bring together so many people from meanwhile 150 different countries and continents with so many different views in politics or religion, with so many different languages in a common group and to celebrate peacefully together and to sing in his own language. You can see how proud he is of his country and how happy and moved he is when the audience sings with him🥰.
There is another version of this song that I would like to recommend maybe for later. And that's the one from his Bastau concert. He has invited about 100 dombra players to this concert, who together with him perform a short instrumental, Adai, before Daididau. That's also very impressive.

You might want to catch up on Autumn Strong. That was the episode before Uptown Funk. I recommended it in the comments of Uptown Funk.
This was the first song he sang in Mandarin. He was so grateful to his Chinese audience for welcoming him so warmly that he wanted to say thank you in this way. He only had a week to learn the lyrics and the correct pronunciation. That was very important to him. A really tough job. From the reaction of the audience you can see that he has mastered it with flying colors. Many Chinese reactors also said that his pronunciation was almost perfect. The song is very emotional and I recommend to take the link on Gloria Wu’s channel as it shows the background story. Autumn Strong is a song he always sings in his concerts. Every time it is a very emotional moment.

For non musicians: The language of music is Italian. Adagio is an Italian word and is used in music to denote tempo, meaning: 'calm', 'slow'. In this song, adagio roughly means: If it is to be, then it will be.
The interpretation of the song by Dimash is brilliant. He touches my heart and soul ... every time.
The shaking of his head and the trembling of the chin has nothing to do with the vibrato. It just goes to show that Dimash can be a little nervous and tense too. It was about a lot. In the previous Episode 5 (Uptown Funk) he yanked everyone out of their seats but still got last place. Either he won now or he would go home. Of course, Dimash won Episode 6.
That classical baroque melody cannot be assigned to any particular artist with certainty. Today it is one of the most popular works of “classical music”.
Camilo Sesto wrote 1985 the original lyrics in Spanish to this piece. Lara Fabian wrote the lyrics in Italian and English. Composers Rick Allison, Dave Pickell and Lara Fabian arranged the piece into a pop song. Since then, this song has been part of Lara Fabian's repertoire.

Dimash won this episode with this performance which was a relief following his cover of Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars which was I believe his lowest scoring performance on the show The Singer in 2017. His suit was the colour of the Kazakhstan flag which maybe gave him luck.
It’s great you recognise the band/musicians and back up singers. They are first class along with the technicians, directors and producers on the show. All the competitors were professionals with successful careers - they were all very supportive of each other. Such a great show and worth watching not only for Dimash. If and when you have time here’s the first episode of The Singer 2017 which introduces the core group of competitors - Sandy Lam, a Hong Kong singer and actress, was the eventual winner with Dimash placing second:

You have to understand, this competition is for best selling successful Chinese artists. They have a mutual respect towards each other's artistry and Dimash was the youngest among them, invited as a wild card performer from another country. He was unknown until the first broadcast where he sang SOS. Within 24 hours after that, he needed bodyguards and his fame took off. I saw others suggesting Olimpico next( sang in Italian, Ogni Pietra), I concur. Composed by Igor Krutoy for Dimash, premiered at the 2nd European games opening in 2019 in Minsk, Belarus. Another fantastic performance. This was my first favourite song Dimash sang at the singing competition in The Singer China in 2017. He won first place in this episode (7th). This is Lara Fabian’s original song whom he admired and looked up to her since he was growing up. Lara congratulated Dimash of his own version and became good friends since then although they did not meet and sang in a duet in 2019 Russia for the birthday celebration of Igor Krutoi the famous Russian composer/ songwriter/singer who took them under his wings at the beginning of their careers.
