Yeah I saw a 56 nomad they cut it and made it into a pickup. But it was their car to do with what they wanted. You can always put on a stock frame if you wanted to. I think you got an awesome ride. I do have a stock frame if you decide you'd like to have one, for some reason. I'm glad the old boy started saving it out of the junkyard. And then the next guy builds upon his creation. And you're tied up all the loose ends. Thanks for explaining where it came from..
I see so many videos of these wickedly cool custom cars and how they are built, but few go into the process of getting it registered and insured. Is it a difficult process? I wanted a VW rail buggy a few years back, but couldn't find anyone who would insure it so I ended up not buying it.
Well I suppose it would depend on how a specific state handles registration and insurance. The Nomad is registered and insured as a ‘56 wagon, because that’s still technically what it is. From my understanding rail buggy’s aren’t street legal, so that might be a hiccup for sure. In our experience we haven’t had any trouble with insurance as long as you have a title that matches and covers the body of the vehicle. But we’re going to have to go through it again pretty soon with the ‘61 Buick LeSabre 4x4 we’re building so we’ll keep ya updated on that process!
We can only imagine, as there aren’t too many Nomads left. However if I were to take an educated guess - I would assume probably most of the Nomads left are on stock frames… So what’s the harm in this one not being on a stock frame? I mean, if you want to take it a step further - it’s not like we personally tore two decent, solid, stock - Nomads apart to make this.. If you listened to the history I gave, you would know this was some guys bid to try to save a ‘56 body from being scrapped. This is what he chose to do with it, then after another owner, it came into our possession - It runs and drives, we use it almost daily… and we enjoy it. That should be all that matters… I would even venture to bet most of the “stock” Nomads out there are not being driven daily… that’s a shame. Hah. What are you proposing anyway? That we should dismantle this car and build two stock frame Nomads outta the crusty pieces? 🤣 ain’t nobody here got time or money for that 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for your comment though, it was definitely interesting to answer 🤗😅 - Sage
@NoKillCarShelter I'm not knocking it by no means I'd just love to get my hand on one and build a wicked gasser I do like that it has à 55 front cap on it
