Edouard (Eddy) baron Merckx (Meensel-Kiezegem, 17 juni 1945) is een Belgisch wielrenner geweest van 1961 tot 1978. Na die tijd richtte hij een fietsenbedrijf op. Hij staat met 525 gewonnen wedstrijden in de wielersportjournalistiek als de beste wielrenner aller tijden te boek.

Un ciclista que era capaz de ganar grandes vuetas, clasicas, subiendo, al sprin, batiendo el récord de la hora, sin duda el mejor de la historia del ciclismo.
Bernard Thévenet heeft in interviews voor de Franse televisie, afgenomen voor een documentaire in de naweeën van de "Festina Tour", toegegeven dat ie z'n beide rondes heeft gewonnen op doping. Zijn bekentenis werd beloond met het behoud van beide overwinningen. Armstrong zal gevloekt hebben. En Merckx waarschijnlijk ook.
Deze mens was zonder meer de beste renner ooit, formidabel in de overwinning, groots in de nederlaag !

Ça bichais pas trops dans les peletons quand le roi eddy était au depart des classiques ou les grands tours . Mon idole est toujours bien présent et lui souhaite d être present très longtemps pour voir de son vivant que ces pas dmains la veille qu il sera détrôné eddy mon idole éternel et intemporel un grand homme vraiment un grand champion .

Je n ai pas oublier pour l avoir vu plusieur fois le carisme et le côté humble de ce grand monsieur eddy merckx vous etes bien ces absolument sublime d avoir notre legende bien vivante et en forme eddy mercx eternel intemporel
Eddy est le héros de mon enfance (j'avais 7 ans quand il a gagné le Tour de France). Il était absolument extraordinaire, magique (quand j'étais enfant, il y avait Eddy et Saint-Nicolas 😉) . S'il n'y avait pas eu la terrible chute de Blois en 1969, il aurait été imbattable en montagne également dans tous les grands tours jusqu'au moins 1975 ! Mais, même diminué en montagne, son palmarès reste inégalé et inégalable. Pour moi, son record de l'heure tient toujours, ceux qui l'ont "battu" possédaient un matériel infiniment plus sophistiqué. Il n'y a que pour Bernard Hinault que j'aie éprouvé presque autant d'admiration.

doping in de Giro 1969 is nooit bewezen, hij was toen geflikt. In de Ronde van Lombardije 1973 had hij hoestsiroop gebruikt. De stof die erin zat en waarvoor hij gedeclasseerd werd is nadien van de lijst geschrapt. Enkel in de Waalse Pijl 1976 werd hij betrapt op gebruik van amfetaminen. Dus slechts 1 keer geen 3 keren.
En 525 koersen gewonnen op tien jaar tijd. De "lolz" aan't eind van je idiote repliek doet vermoeden dat je je jeugdpuisten nog niet ontgroeid bent.

Merckx was doing it all wrong........... Really. He wasn't spinning. You must spin as everyone "in the know" knows full well these all-so-righteous days. Oh ya. And look at Merckx' position on the stupid, heavy, non "aero" ridiculously inferior steel bike (carbon is where it's at), both so wrong. Really. Merckx should have been on at least a 5cm. shorter frame so he could have been in an "aero" position. "Aero" IS where it's at. Merckx also climbed wrong. His hands were on the tops or hood, not in an "aero" position on the drops as IS far better. Really. And Merckx was way too back in the saddle, you need to be way forward with the toes always pointed down and again, spin, spin, spin................. Thankfully we've learned so much today from these ignorant mistakes of the tired past.
Merckx was simply lucky. That's all.

You forget that in that era Campagnolo made only a 42 chainring. Five speed or six speed blocks was all they had and choosing only five sprockets for a mountain stages was restricting. They were not ignorant mistakes, it was the best of sports knowledge at the time. A 22lb bike was the best you could get.
525 career victories speaks for itself, even these days no one can get to even half of that number
These days the tours are about 600km shorter in total distance than back then ......600km = about 4 stages less, average speeds are bound to be higher these days because of that ......and look at the state of the roads back then, some were dirt roads.

If you originally meant it as sarcasm then you have absolutely no talent for comedy writing, it came across all wrong.
"were" is the correct grammar as it was a plural description of dirt roads.
