@Xyz Abc i see what you mean. i think, diving a little deeper into Dogman's comment, what's really thin in scope of the AAA horror genre are projects that don't follow the norm, projects that are wanting to explore something unique or something not really talked about or presented.

Silent Hill 2 has one of my favorite OST. It's no wonder why I call it my "depression game", aka the game I continuously come back to when I'm sad and music isn't doing it. The game feels like what my depression is; dark, hollow yet still bursting with so many complex emotions. I've always enjoyed the scenes with Angela, even if they are short and generally uneventful. She deserved so much better, everyone who gets trapped in Silent Hill to deal with their traumas deserved better. Nobody should suffer that way and even though James isn't a good person, I'm still glad that he got to face his traumas head-on and come to terms with the truth.
I platonically love you, you understand what makes the game so special to so many people. I grew up with this game as an outlet to let my feelings out, and still do it to this day. My mom always says 'You'll never understand silent hill, until you TRULY understand silent hill.' and years later it still holds true.

Listening to this on a cold and misty late November morning, walking 10 extra minutes so I can get the bus at an earlier stop and doing a little detour just to sit on the bus for just a while longer whilst gazing outside the window that overlooks vast, empty fields and dark, cosy brick houses coming into view as you head into the city is something I would love to experience for the first time again as I've never felt so at peace in my life before.
It is possible that one person's discomfort is another person's comfort. Pattern preference are also environmental, if you grew up with certain sound patterns, you may not be discomforted at all.
I think it’s because the disconnect between soothing music (and sometimes soothing atmosphere) and the underlying content of the game makes people uncomfortable. Peaceful placid water, but you know there’s something with teeth under the surface. A threat at the edge of your mind only vaguely alluded to by a slightly more twangy note in an otherwise meditative score.

I feel as if these songs resemble a dark, yet reassuring reminder that life can often be a hellish nightmare, but one can make the best of any situation thrown their way.
Growing up with silent hill made this music so much more meaningful, my mother always shared the games with me as they came out, even when I was as young as 5. Adding Yume Nikki to the mix, Yume Nikki is a game that my current fiance had played for me before we even got together, I told him about it and he beat it on his own time. We had barely known eachother then. I dont know what im meaning by this comment, but I guess I'm saying thank you, for somehow creating a Playlist that hits me in the nostalgia HARD
yo guys.. I read the comments and admire the author. this playlist brought together so many people. everyone has their own memories, and they are happy to share them. it's wonderful...
Alone In The Town is one of the greatest songs ever composed. As a teenager, I played the shit out of SH2 and honestly would play up to the bowling alley JUST to hear this song and keep the game idle. This was and still is my favorite game of all time.
"I got a letter today..." thats how my love for silent hill began... scary as hell... so ugly and beautiful at the same time. a visual poetry that unfolds before your eyes...
All creepiness aside, this video is just full of songs giving off a feeling of pure emotional dread. A feeling lower than depression, a staring at the floor emotion, a not-a-care-in-the-world emotion, an all-caving-in emotion. It's not an often visited hole of dread, but most of us have visited it at least once before.
Its odd, some people feel the total opposite to how I feel listening to this music and I cant see why. One of the most relaxing ambient songs ive ever heard was Warm Hands and a Gentle Stab from SJSM, but my friend who played the game was utterly terrified by the song. Or similarly, the forest temple music from OOT, that song is super comforting to me, but others find it creepy.
The sky is gray with the land being of dark shades. Everything is still. Its cold but regular cold isn't lonely. A disassociated purgatory. Everything in line and lifeless. A disturbing but calm presence, where time itself seems to stop.
Just imagine hearing this at night when you're walking alone when there's no car passing by and there's no one around and there's no streetlights lit up or on the highway lights not being lit up either-
tick tock heavy like a brinks truck looking like im tip top shining like a wristwatch ima grab your wrist lock it down till the thing pop can you stick around for a minute till the ring stop please god
Its nice to see someone actually appreciate SJSM's and Lost In Vivo's OSTs! They are probably my favorite horror game soundtracks of all time, but both games (especially Lost In Vivo) are so underrated that its hard to find playlists with their songs in it. Akuma Kira and Jarren Crist are gods.
SJSM's ost is my favorite horror game ost :D and same, Akuma Kira is my favorite game dev considering the cool stuff they made, sjsm, lost in vivo, lunacid, and so on
@@maxskellington910 IKR, when I realized it was them I was mind blown. Amazing how they went from a silly (but still pretty scary) parody horror game to easily one of the most frightening experiences of my life
I can understand that. They are excellent at creating some great atmosphere within their games, and they have a nostalgic but very distinctive style that effortlessly makes a name for itself.
Silent Hill2 is one of those rare mainstream games that should be considered a work of art. From the music, to the art, to the story itself, that game is absolutely flawless. Also, I had to loop the "Graceful Serenity" track a few times. It reminded me of playing the first Resident Evil or Silent Hill games, especially the more tense parts of the story where you just happen across a small closet with some healing items and a save point by accident. If those little morsels of reprieve had no music like Graceful Serenity, they wouldn't be so hard to leave behind so that the story can continue. Thanks for the playlist and the work you put in to section everything off, it's much appreciated.
Escuchar esto me hace sentir como si estuviera en otro mundo otra realidad, dónde todo es extraño, un lugar desconocido en el que estoy sola, pero por alguna razón no puedo evitar sentirme libre...
On days when it gets too much when all the family and social issues start weighing down on me and I feel like I can't breathe, I like to take an hour and shut my eyes while listening to music like this imagining I'm sitting in a cafe on a rainy day surrounded by like-minded people looking for peace
To my mind, if horror games have in themselves this kind of music - this will make this horror game in 30% creepier and more terrifying, because you know, that something is wrong and that someone can catch you, but melody in the background trying to make you sure that everything alright.
This helps keep me awake and finish my hw fast bc it makes it real easy to pretend the only way to survive in a horror game is to do your hw. Keeps that adrenaline running!
I didn't even know this exists and yet I am so happy for it. We have this project for school that in half a week, we need to write a short story that needs to be immersive and stuff. I wanna write this "Prestigious academy has dark secrets" kinda plot and the peaceful yet eerie ambience is just what I was looking for lol It's so quiet and tranquil but it's not enough to lull you to sleep. You know there's something out there and you're up on your feet. It's calm but uncanny. It's absolutely perfect lol
bro.. its more tranquility, spooky music, rather than horror. I mean this in the best possible way. This stuff could put me to sleep within a matter of MINUTES, and i just discovered this while making a skin on a roblox game. Thank you so much.
No idea what exactly sparked my love for ambient music but I'm glad I found it, it's the only genre of music I can listen to on repeat and still feel calm
This reminds me of an abandoned office building me and some friends explored a few years ago. It was abandoned in the early 2000s, the big old streetlights and CCTV cameras around the area had this weird nostalgic feeling about them. Likely because the whole building looked a lot like my old primary school used to.
it's a cloudy day today and no one down stares with but the cats my house is kinda creeky and not to mention that we had a sliding glass door that looks straight into the garden (super pretty in the summer) but everything out there it dead right now and it's kinda perfect, also I love this so much really is a pretty playlist I'm glad that the silent hill soundtrack is in here my mom showed it to me when I was younger and it scared me so much but it's one of my favorite movies me and my mom have been watching horror movies together since I was little little and this really makes me feel at home. You did a great job!
Ive been listening to this a lot while doing a art , it helps a lot, gives me a lot of inspiration on how to twist the designs and make them horror like.
I forgot how goddamn beautiful Silent Hills music is. I mean it definitely has a creepy undertone, but it's so soothing. I think the project Everywhere at the End of Time really changed how I view ambient music.
silent hill and yume 2kki/Nikki were very clearly direct inspiration for modern masterpieces of ambient horror (or psychological horror/absent horror) like bag of milk outside a bag of milk. so glad this genre continues to exist at least on the peripheral today, since i didn't get to experience it growing up as much.
Yo this made my minecraft playthrough ten times more scarier, I was trying so hard not to be killed by creepers and ended up in a dirt hole until sunrise.
when i discovered white noiz and heaven´s night i spent a year trying to find similar music yk something like the area 52 song from sim city some kind of ambient music, this coming into my recomendations was like a blessing
The main scare of horror is threat. But, when that is taken, what is left is the most oddness one can experience. Yet, it is so calming. A comfort unknown.
Really nice how the games that are meant to be scary have the most calming and reassuring ost. And the ones meant to have a casual playthrough does the opposite.
Does anyone know what type of chord is the one around 0:27? It's in so many Japanese soundtracks and songs, often played on a synth with that exact kind of sound
THANK YOU SO MUCH! i was looking for these 2 songs from silent hill for YEARS. I heard it from a mod from left 4 dead 2 when you spawn in the saferoom. I swear, i looked everywhere. I just happened to click on this video and look at the comments, thank you so much.. timestamps are really important!
woa I just got pretty tired and closed my eyes for a bit to the music. Really felt safe and amazingly calm. Whatever this pieces of music are for ... one thing is spending some peace and rest. Beautiful compilation. Thank you for compiling.

I literally did the same thing. It was like my personal theme song for a long time...
"I got a letter today..."
thats how my love for silent hill began... scary as hell... so ugly and beautiful at the same time. a visual poetry that unfolds before your eyes...
This is like being in the afterlife, the lower dimension when we die, not quite hell, not quite reality or heaven. Just perfect!

@@purplehaze2250 I'm being real, sorry if you don't understand
100% agree

Akuma has to be my favorite horror game dev, theyre amazing at what they do
SJSM's ost is my favorite horror game ost :D and same, Akuma Kira is my favorite game dev considering the cool stuff they made, sjsm, lost in vivo, lunacid, and so on
Thanks man, exactly what i needed.
Funny how Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion and Lost in Vivo, made by the same person (Akuma Kira), are in this Playlist.
Cool.
Akuma Kira is probably my favorite indie horror game dev. I honest to god love what they make
WAAAIT THEY'RE MADE BY THE SAME PERSON?? I NEVER KNEW THAT THAT'S SO COOL!!! They really keep throwing out the bangers huh /pos
This music honestly gives me a weird feeling. I can't describe it. But something about it is so damn soothing.
I’m crocheting to this and I’m a beginner so it’s kinda stressful. This track really helped with that! Thank u so much!!!❤️❤️❤️
Sounds relaxing!! Enjoy!

The Silent Hill music will always be one of my favorites
I'm sick currently and this is helping me feel better
I hope you get better soon! I'm really glad to be able to help you feel better.
Как не крути, а с юношеским максимализмом приходишь к выводу - все композиции silent hill как жизнь.
Спасибо за твоё творчество☺
Lost in Vivo is such a beautiful game. Yes, its scary enough, but truly masterpiece
Акира гений на самом деле, но я также люблю и другое его детище, а именно spooky's jumpscare mansion
@@Mythlogicy я еще не смотрела прохождение SJM, но уверена, что и эта игра очень классная)
This is now relaxing because it’s relevant to the world we live in now
Escuchar esto me hace sentir como si estuviera en otro mundo otra realidad, dónde todo es extraño, un lugar desconocido en el que estoy sola, pero por alguna razón no puedo evitar sentirme libre...
This gives the backrooms or liminal spaces vibes, haunting, quiet, no life no death but sertanly lifeless
Thank you so much for using some of the best music from Spooky's.
On days when it gets too much when all the family and social issues start weighing down on me and I feel like I can't breathe, I like to take an hour and shut my eyes while listening to music like this imagining I'm sitting in a cafe on a rainy day surrounded by like-minded people looking for peace
When writing a script about a horror game this music helps a lot. Thank you.
To my mind, if horror games have in themselves this kind of music - this will make this horror game in 30% creepier and more terrifying, because you know, that something is wrong and that someone can catch you, but melody in the background trying to make you sure that everything alright.
Bless you for including Spooky's and Lost in Vivo. Those games are SO underappreciated
I will beg everyone in 2022 to play lost in vivo. Such a good horror game deserves more than it gets.
Senko, the best kitsune ever
The saddest music is stuff like this, hauntingly familiar but devastatingly far away.
I wanna write this "Prestigious academy has dark secrets" kinda plot and the peaceful yet eerie ambience is just what I was looking for lol
It's so quiet and tranquil but it's not enough to lull you to sleep. You know there's something out there and you're up on your feet. It's calm but uncanny. It's absolutely perfect lol
How did your project go ?
sitting in the back of a classroom while listening to this making me feel like an outcast fr
Ah Yume Nikki, one of the most influential games of all time and the best videogame about dreams ever.
A beautiful experience!
eh saying its one of the most influential of all time is pushing it lol

bro.. its more tranquility, spooky music, rather than horror. I mean this in the best possible way. This stuff could put me to sleep within a matter of MINUTES, and i just discovered this while making a skin on a roblox game. Thank you so much.
So true. Its literally not even scary, more like relaxing
Makes me feel like I'm in a backroom, or a maze. Love it, thank you.
The b a c k r o o m s but no m o n s t e r s or c r e e p y n o i s e s.
No idea what exactly sparked my love for ambient music but I'm glad I found it, it's the only genre of music I can listen to on repeat and still feel calm
playing cry of fear with this, epic
Love cry of fear
the best playlist for writing frfr!!!
sounds like liminal space music, its quite relaxing
This was the first TH-cam video I watched when I got this laptop. It was so cool!
tbh, I love silent hill. just everything about it is AMAZINGGG!
I love all of these series.. the imagery you put together, as well as the music selection? Perfect. Thank you for making this.
I could listen to a 10 hour loop of The Day of Night.
glad spooky's is getting some attention, the ambience is phenomenal in that game
Thank you. This made my walk way better
silent hill and yume 2kki/Nikki were very clearly direct inspiration for modern masterpieces of ambient horror (or psychological horror/absent horror) like bag of milk outside a bag of milk. so glad this genre continues to exist at least on the peripheral today, since i didn't get to experience it growing up as much.
This is perfection for morning and evening deep breathing meditation
Yo this made my minecraft playthrough ten times more scarier, I was trying so hard not to be killed by creepers and ended up in a dirt hole until sunrise.
Just you wait until I make a playlist of unsettling horror game music.
@@crococatcreative 😰
I'm not the only one who finds it oddly relaxing!? Yay!
Okay the breath sound effect got me
for some strange reason these sounds are extremely relaxing, as if you suddenly came home, something quite unreal
for me it feels as if walking through a dream
Funny little fact
1:36:56 is a small sample from a song called "Vanha Talvitie" from CMX, if anyone ever wondered.
when i discovered white noiz and heaven´s night i spent a year trying to find similar music yk something like the area 52 song from sim city some kind of ambient music, this coming into my recomendations was like a blessing
You should check out the soundtrack of OFF, it's similar to Silent Hill and Yume Nikki
After a year it's still my favourite playlist
im drawing to this and the vibes im getting is very chill mysterious and overall calming i love it
The main scare of horror is threat. But, when that is taken, what is left is the most oddness one can experience.
Yet, it is so calming. A comfort unknown.
Horror and relaxing dosn't sound something to be placed in the same sentence, but this works 👀
I watched this video, and it led me to playing SH2 for the first time. Man what a masterpiece, cant brlieve i didnt find it earlier.. Thank you!
Relaxing and horror together feels like an oxymoron, yet you proved it works.
It's a little bit like finding peace in hopelessness.
Really nice how the games that are meant to be scary have the most calming and reassuring ost. And the ones meant to have a casual playthrough does the opposite.
Does anyone know what type of chord is the one around 0:27? It's in so many Japanese soundtracks and songs, often played on a synth with that exact kind of sound
i wnana know too
This calm I feel is troubling as well… like nostalgia and unease and calmness
play this at night, its a vibe
THANK YOU SO MUCH! i was looking for these 2 songs from silent hill for YEARS. I heard it from a mod from left 4 dead 2 when you spawn in the saferoom. I swear, i looked everywhere. I just happened to click on this video and look at the comments, thank you so much.. timestamps are really important!
This is what is subconsciously playing in my head when I live my everyday life
I dont even remember watching this video but I'm halfway through it and tbh this is really relaxing
woa I just got pretty tired and closed my eyes for a bit to the music. Really felt safe and amazingly calm. Whatever this pieces of music are for ... one thing is spending some peace and rest. Beautiful compilation. Thank you for compiling.
I legitimately am falling in love with this
Honestly this is a vibe
I was looking for some breakcore and accidentally found ambients that i have been trying to find for a long time. Thank you
I'm never gonna get over the feeling that I am weird for feeling at home listening to horror music like this. It soothes my soul and that kind of worries me a little... but I love it 😈
i honestly hate most relaxing ambience/music videos but holy cow this is the exception. idk how to say it but its just so like, nice. its not boring at all, i love it so much
