    Hi SR Redbeard,
Watched your video last week before tackling the power steering cylinder on my ‘67 F5000. Your video took all the guess work out of doing the removal. I had the same problem you did with that big bugger tapered pin. After removing it i power washed that area and cleaned out 54 years of Oily dirt/leaves/twigs. Got the cylinder back from the shop, put it in, and it still leaked, so I’m going to remove it again tomorrow and put new o-rings and seals myself with the help of an experienced tractor mechanic. Your video was a ton of help
    Thanks a bunch
    Tommy from S Alabama

Thank you for this video. I’ve got radiator out & one pin out of the cylinder. A very difficult job . I’ve got one more small pin & the the big one you had a hard time with. You can’t give me the size of that nut can you ? Lol Would help it’s so hard to get too. But the mechanics here in Kentucky wanted $600 just to take the power steering cylinder out ! And your video is the only one like my tractor. So thank you so much. I couldn’t have done it without you !!!

Glad it was helpful! Sorry I don’t remember the nut size, but I’m sure you figured it out by now. Thanks for watching!

Where would one go to have the cylinder rebuilt? Doing some work on my 5000 and it appears the cylinder is leaking. Have the radiator out so figured it would be best to get it fixed now. Thanks!

I took mine to a local guy who works on tractors.

Working on my 5900 power steering cylinder. Mine is a different set up and is much easier than yours. Good job.

Great video! I know it was a couple years ago, but do you remember what penetrating oil you used on that big pin? I got everything out except that one! Spent a day and a night spraying WD-40 on it and all day today trying PB Blaster...no luck so far.

      PB Blaster

@@srredbeard5745 It is finally out. PB Blaster and whacking it from below wasn't working in my case. For others trying to get the #$#*& pin out here's what I ended up doing with the help/advice of a neighbor...jack up the front axle on the right side to make the left side drop to create a little more space...with the 15/16ths nut still on and just covering the end of the threads, hammer in a metal wood splitting wedge so it is under the nut and on top of the axle, get it in there nice and tight, slowly lower the jack to put weight on the wedge...from above put a big socket around the pin and whack it with a hammer...worked my way up to an 8 pound sledge hammer which finally made it pop out. Caution, most likely not an OSHA approved method! I have a feeling that this power steering setup was an engineers' delight but a mechanics' nightmare!

Glad you finally got it out! Thanks for sharing the info on what worked for you. I was surprised the penetrating oil worked on mine because of the head on that pin. When you got the pin out was it wet from the penetrating oil or was it still dry?

@@srredbeard5745 It was wet and the PB Blaster was dripping out from underneath (prior to the sledge hammering) so I'm sure that helped, just needed more persuasion. With a little attention to the threads the pin should be re-usable.

My husband watched your video. His question at about 23 minutes into the video was what is the travel of the valve--- is it selectavalve, hydraulic directional to the cylinder, or what? He just bought a Ford 5000 with power steering problems and is wanting to know how the valve works.

Ima a little late to the game, but have you had any problems with the hose clamp on the one line? None of my local shops will make mine on the original hard lines. It blew at the elbow. I have a 4000.

I haven’t had any problems with the hose clamps but wouldn’t use the cheap ones.

Make your self some loader lift cylinder mechanical block pipes or u-channel, so you can lift your loader frame up all the way and rest the cylinders on your cylinder blocks so you do not have to crawl under the arms.
See Paw Paw's channel with backhoe loader video where he makes them.

If you own a tractor with a front end loader FEL or a backhoe or any other piece of hydraulic equipment, I urge you to watch this video. I just cobbled this together from stuff I had laying around. When working on your equipment, especially heavy equipment, you cannot be too safe.
