    Wow. I saw all of these films in the theater. I liked "Betrayed," and found "Married to the Mob" very funny. I fell asleep during "Hero and the Terror." I enjoyed Gene's and Roger's thoughts on "Last Temptation." Very nice.

    My sister & I actually liked Stealing Home when we watched it on video in 1989. It was a sweet 3 star film.

      I liked it too. It may be schmaltzy and contrived as all hell, but it's got a decent soundtrack and everyone made the most of the material.

      @@gspendlove I just watched it again recently and I still get all choked up when Billy races to the pier at the end. It's really all thanks to the score. I don't think it'd affect me as much without that music.

    It would be interesting if Siskel and Ebert had came back to television as a reboot show but featuring the children of both movie critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. I would definitely watch that show!

    I absolutely LOVE Betrayed and do not understand the negative reviews for it at all. Debra Winger and Tom Berenger have great chemistry and it is one of Winger's very best performances. I don't even consider it a "guilty pleasure" but as a buried treasure.

    What are the chances that Siskel & Ebert would’ve made the perfect
    movie? :)))
    Especially writing and directing? :)))

    Hated Married to the Mob and enjoyed Stealing Home. I fell in love in my teens at the Jersey Shore and loved the shot of the old Vet with the different colored seat sections.

    I’m with Rog, the hunting of the black man scene was just…uncomfortable. Felt like it was put in there to cheaply pull feelings out of the viewer. Thumbs down.

    Funny thing about critics - they always have something to bitch about. They get paid handsomely to pick apart the creative process of others. What do critics create?

    • @tangoblue
      @tangoblue 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Criticism. Ebert was awarded the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for his work.
      Creating and critiquing are both valid forms.

      They don’t build anything. They don’t manufacture anything. They don’t don’t grow anything from the ground. They don’t create jobs in the workplace. They don’t even get their hands dirty. I rank them slightly higher than politicians.

    • @ericfelds6291
      @ericfelds6291 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uh do you understand what a critic’s job is, it’s in the name you loser. As someone who’s actually been to art school, the most important part of the process when working on a project is at the end, it’s what called ‘critique’ your peers, and your professors critique your work, it’s easy become myopic as an artist and often harsh criticism is what’s required to progress creatively. Criticism in itself is a storied art, if you think it’s so easy go send some reviews to your local newspaper, see if they get published. Going off your writing acumen here, they’d never see the light of day. Ebert and Siskel were highly educated on film, and they were brilliant wordsmiths, who could transform experience into words artfully.
      You’re just a rube.

    • @Peekay9
      @Peekay9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ericfelds6291 - Sounds like I struck a nerve. You’re not one of “them” are you? IMO, all art is subjective. Key word (opinion.) so what makes a critic’s opinion more valuable than someone else’s? Because they carry that label, and get paid to be a hoity toity asshole? I’ve heard stories about art critics using their positions to get laid. That is so pathetic, but doesn’t surprise in the least. If critics disappeared from the world tomorrow, would they be missed? I tend to think not. What benefit do they provide? Do they sanitize, repair, or heal anything?
