It’s the same as always really - plenty of crap movies, but also some really good movies. Of course there are still great movies coming out, it’s silly to say otherwise.
I once lied to a popular pretty girl in junior high who spoke to me and asked me what I did last night. I told her I went and seen Money Train. In a beautiful piece of karma, we had to watch a taped TV program later in another class and a TV spot revealed it wasn't even out yet.
It should be noted that 1995 overall was a fantastic year for movies. Not only did the directorial golden troika of Scorsese, Mann, and Fincher fire on all cylinders and give us (respectively) Casino, Heat, and Seven -- there was also The Usual Suspects, Safe, Toy Story, Babe, The American President, To Die For...
I remember we read The Scarlet Letter in my sophomore year of high school. Our teacher had the movie poster on his wall, but he made a point that while it made for a cool looking poster, we would NOT be watching the movie due to how far is strayed from the book.
I have no idea about the making of the film but I got mixed feelings about what’s been happened on Money Train (1995). A series of problems including a script well, that’s why I felt that the writing team were wrong for the project and that becomes a nightmare for them. There’s nothing to laugh about because it’s all about you and your life. And nothing else! Look what happens to Nicholas Kazan, who’s been fired from Disney’s Impulse in 1984 and replaced by Laurie Gelman of the House Calls and Home Improvement fame. She’s got more writing/producing experience in both television and movies since November 1980, because she has decided to do it and take over from Nicholas Kazan as first time screenwriter with Don Carlos Dunaway for Disney’s Impulse. The team has done a great job for adapting the script for Graham Baker’s first American movie for Christmas 1984. It has finally opened with marvelous results with a stellar cast and crew who just make it all possible.
Seeing Jeanne Tripplehorn in Basic Instinct, The Firm, and Waterworld back to back to back pretty much destroyed me for good. As a reviewer myself, I miss Gene and Roger like a bear misses honey.
