I am a member of this individuals group as I joined for knowledge of venomous, and I have kept venomous snakes for the past few years, and one of the first things I read when doing research was that if you get bit, it is 100% on you, nobody HAS to share their stash of anti-venom, including even zoo's. I do NOT support free-handling, it's reckless and foolish, I have the utmost respect for you @Viperkeeper as well as @VenomCentral for the LOAD of information, knowledge, and overall safety that you guys preach and teach. Thank you! We stand with Kentucky Reptile Zoo!
Absolutely! I've been following Al since I was an undergrad almost 20 years ago. I fell in love with venomous and got to work in a molecular biology lab because of his inspiration. I came to the sad realization that I will probably never own hots myself due to my severe ADHD, but (unlike in the story) that's a risk I'm not willing to put onto others.
Imagine the "oh shit" moment that guy had when he realized he got bitten. Also, imagine the "oh shit" moment when the ER doctors learned what an Inland Taipan is.
Also imagine the "oh shit," moment the police had when they showed up NOT being told what the problem was, and arriving and seeing 14 of the most venomous snakes in the world were being kept in TUPPERWARE CONTAINERS. Needless to say, all 14 snakes were euthanized due to this guy, because zoos can't take the risk of bringing in contamination.
@@thesussexbunionin an apartment building no less. I wouldn’t even keep my boa if I lived in an apartment. Imagine the horror and chaos is even a copperhead got loose in an apartment building.
I won't even watch YTs that free handle these deadly snakes for views..can't get enough of this channel..thanks for the update, your time, and experience and for educating me about these snakes!❤❤
I agree with you. The zoos buy the very expensive anti-venom for their employees. Part of insurence for their employees. Pet owners need to buy their own if they risk their lives with the snakes.
Exactly the anti-venom is for the employees and not to save the ass of every reckless snake keeper who can't bother to buy their own anti-venom or check the hospitals in their area at least has anti-venom.
The KRZ has this disclaimer, "KRZ reserves the right to refuse the sale of venoms. Please ensure that your initial inquiry includes credentials from your university, facility, or company. " This organization should not be criticized for enforcing its policy.
Done Al. I wrote them a review. I've been a long time viewer and thank you for making me further enjoy and appreciate venomous snakes. People can be just AWFUL. I wish KRZ the best. Much care to you and Laurie 💗
Very well said. I hope Jim and Kristen know that they have a huge community who will stand by their side. Between you and KRZ, I've learned so much in proper husbandry. We all love these animals, and we all know that they "should" require a huge amount of respect from the keeper. Thank you for continuing to promote proper keeping, proper husbandry, and the proper use of tools.
I stand behind Kentucky Reptile Zoo decision to protect their own staff. It’s not their responsibility to supply antivenin to a completely irresponsible handler that wants to play Superman.
As an Australian, and a keeper of venomous, I cannot believe anyone would freehandle any taipan! This person must have been a proper goose. These snakes are native here, anti-venom is available ‘quickly’ and in an effectively unlimited amount and yet we still have to be licensed to have venomous snakes I cannot believe that ‘anyone’ in the US is allowed to ‘own’ such an animal (taipans more likely ‘own’ you) without having anti-venom on site. Given the expensive health care in the US I shudder to think what the financial cost alone will do to this person, let alone the likely life long impacts of envenomation. Crazy.
This is why Viperkeeper is one of the most respected guys in this industry. Glad you spoke on this Mr Viperkeeper! I totally agree with KRZ. Especially considering who the guy is! I will go drop 5 stars!
I have so much respect for you and the responsible way you handle your venomous snakes. You are one of the best in the field. I just left a review of the Kentucky Reptile Zoo per your request. Thank you for all the years of fascinating videos. Elvis is my favorite. He is the first snake I actually liked. So much personality and intelligence. Hope your wife feels better and fully heals soon.
I’m so thankful for you Al. I learned how amazing animals like Gaboons and Sawscales are from your channel. But I also learned how important it is to respect them as well. That they are as deadly as they are beautiful. Thank you for your consistency in content and character. I will definitely go show support to KY Reptile Zoo
I'm honored to stand with KRZ! Jim and Kristen are a true treasure in Kentucky, and for the venomous snakes of our world, and for science. What they do, helps to save lives, promotes medical research, and responsible stewardship of wildlife!

KRZ is right to protect their people. Jeff had been warned for a while that his practices were unsafe. He refused to even stock basic antivenin or develop an emergency plan. That’s not anybody else’s fault.
Thank you for answering questions about who's paying for the antivenin. I've suspected for a while that people forget how much it costs to save their lives and who's toting that note. I have admired the fact that you keep a supply of antivenin for safety sake. My two cents on the subject is, if someone is keeping these beautiful deadly animals they should be required to also purchase antivenin in case of bites. As far as I'm concerned nobody should be shamed because they do not want to give away something that costs thousands of dollars. Your analogy was perfect.
I've always liked them, after snake discovery did their interview with primarily Kristen. She was very knowledgeable, reasonable, and perfectly willing to help another member of the reptile community in the middle of the Winter and covid. Also I would call the situations they would happily help "good faith accidents"- keepers using tools and reasonable practices. Thx for the nuanced take on this and backing them. And info out there for other good faith keepers.
Good information. Fully support the excellent work by the Kentucky Reptile Zoo and yourself. I support the decision to not provide antivenin as their small supply is critical for their operation and staff. Appreciate the update.
Sending love and support for Mrs VK. Get well soon Lori, and stay positive! As far as the guy with the inland taipan bite, it's a case of play stupid games, win stupid prizes. This is why I've always loved and valued your content VK. Arguably the best herp channel on TH-cam. You play it safe, you respect each individual animal, and you live to fight again another day. I'm a wildlife biologist, and this is exactly what we were taught repeatedly in animal handling courses. The idea was drilled into our heads almost endlessly. Any time you free handle a deadly snake, or any deadly animal for that matter, you're playing with your very life. Good fortune can turn bad in an instant, and then that's the end for you. I'll provide a glowing review for KRZ and tell them thanks for protecting their employees and respecting the wildlife they care for.

hey viperkeeper, just saying I've been following your videos for around 15 years now. It all started with my sister, as she kept hognose snakes, ball pythons, tree pythons, and and and. Lots of beautiful snakes. I then randomly stumbled upon your channel without even really understanding english at all (I'm from Germany). Over the years I became fluent in listening / understanding though, and still kept watching your videos. I love the fact that you're still doing videos til this day, I rarely check TH-cam at all these days, and almost forgot you existed. Just now I opened TH-cam, and you were the first video suggestion. Hello, John Hedger here. I was writing a support comment, which I edited and somehow lost. I don't know if you can recover it, but if not, I will come back and try and reconstruct. I have known Jim and Kristen at The Kentucky Reptile Zoo for decades and I completely understand and support their decision not to send out their precious antivenom. I don't believe they were actually formally approached by the hospital or family, but certain followers of the South Carolina freehandler took an attitude that KRZ should be compelled to offer and ship out their taipan antivenom and put the zoo's own employees at risk. I've never personally kept venomous snakes, yet I totally support Jim and Kristen's decision! They've been so wrongfully attacked by these online trolls, it's totally unfair and unwarranted!
