I have been stitching off and on for over 30 years but still find all of your instructional videos helpful, even if just to confirm I am on the right track! Your camera angles and verbal instructions are excellent!! You have quickly become one of my favorite flosstube channels and also my go- to for purchasing my stitchy supplies!! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE STITCHING COMMUNITY! ❤❤❤
Stitch by Stitch I know this is a older video, but I just saw it! I hope you’ve tried Crossstitch! I never thought I’d like it, but now I can’t get enough of it! I suggest starting on Aida it’s easier to see exactly where to put your needle, then after mastering that, try even weave. Good luck! Oh, one more tip to start try, patterns with straight stitches, such as houses, letters etc. Much easier to count. Love to know how you’ve done!
Thank you I am just going to start learning cross stitch. I subscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing. I am 71 and I have always wanted to learn how to do it.
I know this was done 9 months ago, but I it really helped me today. It’s been many years since I have stitched on even weave or linen because I began to find it hard to see. I was determined to start Kringles on something fancier than Aida. I chose a 28 count Ice Blue Laguna from FQS. This video helped me to make a start today. Thank you!
Hi my name is Rita and I am just starting to learn how. I am 71 and still young at heart. Do you mind if I suggest something that will help you see. On TV they have those glassed that help you see better with the light in them. They also may have them at Walmart. I got mine at bi mart. They were 19.99 I think. I just love mine. ❤
Phew. Thanks for this info. I rec'd my quarterly project today and I am freakin' out with how tiny the squares are. This makes me feel a little better.
I have always been fearful of trying anything higher than 18 count, but you did a WONDERFUL job of explaining Stitch Over 2 and how to use that Gauge! I can't wait for it to arrive so I can order one. Now I'm going to branch out and try the higher thread counts!
When she talked about the 28 and 32 count - those actually are equal to 14 count aida and 16 count aida so not "higher" technically. You are right when you said it was a wonderful job of explaining it. It's great to be able to see them actually stitching!
OMG 😍! Thank you so much for this. I purchased a 28 count evenweve and now I have to try it! I'm going to watch again in slow motion just to make sure I have it right. Y'all are awesome!
Thank you Cheryl 😊 I appreciate you explaining and showing us how to stitch the Lugana. I normally do Aida because I can't see that well but wanted to see how and if I can do it. 2 over 2 confused me until you showed it. Hugs
I keep trying to stitch over 2 on evenweave, but I agree that it is really hard to count! I can do it if I'm stitching in a row without difficulty, but when I try to move to a different part of a pattern, I struggle.
Quilting is my passion, but I also love cross stitch. I am so glad I can get my cross stitch supplies from the Fat Quarter Shop now! I love all your videos ‼️ Love you guys‼️❤️
Hello Steve! We have not stitched on a wicker before so we cannot offer an answer. However, we do have a cross stitch key that can help you find the sizing www.fatquartershop.com/cross-stitch-key-its-sew-emma
I’m new here and this tutorial was fabulous. Can you or do you have a tutorial on stitching on uneven linen fabric? I was gifted a piece of linen fabric that is an uneven weave and would love to stitch a nice sampler on it. I’m so happy 😃 that I’ve found your videos, they are so informative. Thank you☘️
Hi Kimberly and Sherrill what is the hoop called that Sherrill is working with. The inner workings is metal and adjustable by squeezing . Where does she buy this hoop. And is there a certain name for them.. thank you
Hi Donna! That is a spring tension embroidery hoop. You can purchase different sizes at Fat Quarter Shop here - www.fatquartershop.com/nsearch/?q=spring+tension+embroidery+hoop
Hi ,when you start on 28 count evenweave ,do you have to put your first stitch next to a vertical thread ? I have never stitched on evenweave ,but have seen some people say ,if you don’t start your first stitch next to a vertical thread it will slip under !
Hello Debra! Evenweave means that all the threads (weave of the fabric) are the same size. Linen fabrics have some threads in the weave that are thicker than others; therefore, having an 'uneven' weave. Typically, linen fabric is a little more difficult to stitch on than an evenweave fabric.
I expected a better explanation of weave patterns and vertical versus horizontal distances. Some magnified view or diagrams would make things clearer. Suitability for different end uses such as framing, making decor like pillows or accessories, apparel-all these would factor in. Maybe a script and prepared visual aids would help. Maybe discussing the nature of the fibers and impact on care of the fabric, would be helpful. For beginners talking about more advanced topics like overdyed threads is probably off topic for this video.
So I don't get it.. I have 28 count Antique White Monaco. I want to use 2 threads and skip 2 squares, right? Ms. Cheryl only skipped 1 actual square, not 2. I'm so confused. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Fat Quarter, for teaching so many great hobbies!
What's the point of stitching over two? It makes no sense to me what the reasoning is for that. Why not stitch over one? I have 32 count and I'm stitching my giant project over one. Stitching over two would make it so gigantic it would take up the whole wall.
If you have, say a small Christmas Ornament, that you would like bigger but don't have the required Aida Cloth count...one could use this 'stitching over 2' to increase the size of the finished project...using the Aida cloth you have on hand.

I have not learned to cross stich yet, however, I am into almost all types of crafts, this looks like so much fun and relaxing.
I have never done cross stitch it looks so hard. With Kimberly and her awesome videos. I am going to give it a try.

Good Luck 😊
Thank You Cheryl and Kimberly for the great video on the how to X-Stitch on the different fabrics. Thank's to Lilly for great a view!
Thank you I am just going to start learning cross stitch. I subscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing. I am 71 and I have always wanted to learn how to do it.

thank you for the video. very informative. I am wanting to progress from Aida to even weave but was a bit hesitant, will give it a go now

Such a helpful video!! I’ve been crosstitching for many years, but I’m new to linen and evenweave! Loved this!! It’s not so scary anymore! 😍
Soooo helpful, thank you so much, I appreciate it as I am a complete beginner, just completed a kids Christmas cross stitch and I am obsessed.
It was nice to be able to see the stitch size in the cloth when you did it.😛
I just bought some beautiful linen from your shop and THANK YOU for the wonderful video, as this is my first piece of linen for cross stitch!
Thank you Cheryl 😊 I appreciate you explaining and showing us how to stitch the Lugana. I normally do Aida because I can't see that well but wanted to see how and if I can do it. 2 over 2 confused me until you showed it. Hugs
Thanks so much for this information. Happy Stitching.
Fascinating! Thank you, Kimberly and Cheryl!
TKS so much love love love your tutorials you are the only one on flosstube sights that explain how to do thanks again
This was helpful!! Thank you! I might try and take the plunge from Aida to laguna in my next project.
Thank you Sheryl and Kimberly, enjoyed it very much
Great demo....but I'm thinking how hard it would be to "count" to actually follow a chart...I have a hard time even counting on Aida!
I keep trying to stitch over 2 on evenweave, but I agree that it is really hard to count! I can do it if I'm stitching in a row without difficulty, but when I try to move to a different part of a pattern, I struggle.
This is amazing info!! Thank you!!! It answer a ton of questions! You guys are the BEST!!
This video was very helpful. Thank you for so much useful information.
This was what I needed to start afor the first time a linen32ct project I had on my stash and I feel I am in the right path❤😅
Quilting is my passion, but I also love cross stitch. I am so glad I can get my cross stitch supplies from the Fat Quarter Shop now!
I love all your videos ‼️ Love you guys‼️❤️
Debbie, I am the same. FQS is a great place for both quilting and cross stitch.
Thanks, I needed that about stitching on linen.
Thank you so much as this was very helpful!😊
Such a helpful video, thanks so much!
Thank you!!! I was so confused before this video!
that lil ruler, gauge, is cool i need one ! ( im new)
Thanks Cheryl! Very helpful!
If I ever get over my fear and take the plunge, this helps TREMENDOUSLY!!!! Wait, wait, did she stitch on linen??? I am curious!!!
OMG what do you call that kind of embroidery hoop? It looks so much easier to use.
Hello thexshattered! That is a spring tension hoop
thank you, this really clarified things for me. linen is beautiful but yikes i think i will stick to aida. my eyes lol.
What would be the stitch count for wicker like you would put on a bentwood rocker? Thanks
Hello Steve! We have not stitched on a wicker before so we cannot offer an answer. However, we do have a cross stitch key that can help you find the sizing www.fatquartershop.com/cross-stitch-key-its-sew-emma

Hi Donna! That is a spring tension embroidery hoop. You can purchase different sizes at Fat Quarter Shop here - www.fatquartershop.com/nsearch/?q=spring+tension+embroidery+hoop
Great question! I have so much trouble with the tiny screw on a regular hoop.
Hi ,when you start on 28 count evenweave ,do you have to put your first stitch next to a vertical thread ? I have never stitched on evenweave ,but have seen some people say ,if you don’t start your first stitch next to a vertical thread it will slip under !
Hello Beverley! It does not matter on Evenweave if you are stitching over two. It does help if you're stitching on Linen over one.
Great video
Correct me if I'm wrong.... but I think she meant over 2 threads not 2 whole squares?
What is tgge difference between even and uneven fabric.
Hello Debra! Evenweave means that all the threads (weave of the fabric) are the same size. Linen fabrics have some threads in the weave that are thicker than others; therefore, having an 'uneven' weave. Typically, linen fabric is a little more difficult to stitch on than an evenweave fabric.
great video thank you
Cheryl is wonderful 👧
why would you make the stitch bigger? is that just to make your project bigger? im knew to this so i really didnt understand.
Generally it’s because the fabric looks nicer.
Thank you so helpful :)
Fabulous thank you
Thank you!
So, linen is not so scary if you have good eyesight. Thanks Cheryl.

Yes on 28 ct normally you stitch over two. Hope this helps: stitchedmodern.com/blogs/news/how-to-stitching-over-two-threads#
@@dianebolles8534 Thank you so very much! You have a great visual! And a lot of cute stuff to adorn for a new cross stitcher 🤣😍
It would be great if her hoop was stationary...in a frame...its nauseating watching the camera go in and out of focus and the closeup movement!
🤗
What's the point of stitching over two? It makes no sense to me what the reasoning is for that. Why not stitch over one? I have 32 count and I'm stitching my giant project over one. Stitching over two would make it so gigantic it would take up the whole wall.
I think its just a personal preference. I've stitched Mirabilias where the project is 2 over 2 but some areas were over 1 for more definition.
If you have, say a small Christmas Ornament, that you would like bigger but don't have the required Aida Cloth count...one could use this 'stitching over 2' to increase the size of the finished project...using the Aida cloth you have on hand.
I'm more confused now. Ugh.
This is so helpful! Thank you!
Thanks, this was very helpful❣️
This was awesome. Thank you.
