Clear some of your timber then seed it heavy with fescue and your cows will love you forever. Cows love shade when it’s hot and they will have a great place to lay down. I cleared 5 acres in our timber leaving the big trees. There’s always 43 of the cows graze and resting plus there is a water source in there.

So happy to see the organic material going in to the ground rather than up in the air as smoke. Good for the soil, good for the environment.

You Proved the saying of the rabbit and tortoise. When you tried to clear the logs in one go you overwhelmed the head. When you started to shave the logs you became smother and faster. An excellent head for light brush work.

My son had about 40 acres mulched on his place. Give it 2-3 years it will grow some great grass. Where these really shine for a farmer is pasture and field encroachment. Saplings and briers can be removed quickly. He started with blackberry and sticker vines so thick that the deer would go around.

That thing does a fantastic job. Looks like a bush hog went through a bunch of grass after you are done. You went through trees, brush, grass, vines, everything. May have even chewed through a 48 ford there...

Just think of all the pieces of equipment replaces! A chain saw, a way to get logs to a chipper, a way to spread a pile of mulch around. All from the comfort of a seat in the shade!

  • @raymondheckard234

Chris one has to remember in Europe there is no burning of brush or trees in clearing jobs, everything is chipped, including the stumps.
European clearing jobs is the brush is chipped up up, and if the chips are burned, they are done so in a carbon capture facility and not released into the air.
The days of the big job bonfires is over in Europe, and soon in the USA.

Congrats on the new toy for your arsenal. A few things I have observed by watching @idigit4967 aka IDigIt4. He has his TMC- CANCELA Mulcher head figured out! He keeps the head rolled back. This keeps the uncut material under the head and prevents it from shooting out the back. He uses the lift arm to adjust height from the ground, not by rolling the head. Trees are kinda like onions, they peal off layers easier from the outside, than cross cutting them. Mulchers work more efficiently when cutting with the grain. There is a major learning curve, it's quite a bit different from using a bucket.

Wow. Between this and the Endeco on the Mini, look out brush. Watching the debris fly, I get why you told Geoff to keep his distance from you for safety. You've said several times you wanted to clean out the 'small stuff' down by the new pond & lots as well as clean out the area between your driveway pond and the old irrigation pond. This will do that. Congrats on the new piece of equipment. Not only a help around your farm but when it's too wet to move dirt, you can at least keep working by destroying brush. Thanks for sharing, Chris.

Congratulations on the Cancela and the D7. Idigit4 has been using a Cancela for a few weeks now and I have been impressed with its performance. He is in your area around Myrtle Beach and he may be able to give you a few pointers. Just a few things that I observed, door closed when backing that’s when most debris is thrown forward, on long limbs or trees place your track on top of them to keep them from being thrown rearward and being a safety hazard, and keep the knives sharp as often as possible . Have fun and stay safe.

When you're mulching small trees if you drive over the tree and mulch from the top down it will tend to not throw them behind you. Also if you tilt the mulcher forward when backing up it will help to keep pieces from getting caught up under you and its a good idea to grease the drum everyday of use. Hope it works good for you.

I can see this being useful when you need to clear an access path to a pond/build site. It would also be good at taking care of smaller brush and trees, then your bring in the excavator to take care of the rest. Quite a bit faster than the mulching head you have for the mini-excavator too. From the sounds, I think the hydraulic pump on your TL12 is BARELY enough for that mulcher though.

    Sidenote:
A friend that works for a power company in northern Sweden, she told me they use this brand only bigger models to clear power lines from undergrowth.
When they started to use them eight years ago, it a was slow pace going through all them many miles of lines. But now it's so much faster than going at it with clearing saws(used to have groups of three running the cleaning saws.
Plus the regrowth is slowed down quite a bit.

Maybe you are using a lite touch but very impressive. Good operator allowing the machine to operate with in its abilities.

    • @2xKTfc
      @2xKTfc 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

The heavier the drum, the better it keeps its energy/speed when cutting the same "bite" that exceeds the power delivered by the engine/hydraulics. Of course, the tradeoff is more time needed to spin up the drum again after the RPM dropped. Keeping the RPMs well thus means a heavier drum - and a driver who knows not to stall it out all the time.

Sweet machine! The result shows that TMC knows what they're doing. Only problem with this (any, really) mulcher head is that, no matter what machine you put it on, there's never enough horsepower, haha. Almost like with your recent video about tree grinders and fuel consumption, there's a reason the big, continuous-operation machines run 1500+ HP. That's a bit much for a skidsteer you want to be able to tow behind a regular pickup.

Pretty useful piece of kit, especially if you are the first person on a new site and want to cut in a trackway, etc. This is what Andrew Camarata or Jesse Muller needs

That’s a beast of a mulched Chris and wow what a fantastic result you’ve made in such a short time that is one hell of a mulcher . But then again the way you research and make sure of any machine you are interested in or going to invest time and money into you always make sure it will be right for you and perform the way you want. Looking forward to more vids of this in action even if preparing sites You have to clear and work further on

I believe that is the best mulch job (consistent size debris) I've seen. Those secondary stationary cutters make a big difference in the consistency of the output. Very nice piece of equipment!

Hey LD18 The Goonzquad boys have a mulcher like that they took down oak 6 inch they cut down a 3 footer and took them 4 hours to mulch it down to a piece of slab and red pine and gum trees like what you got here, plus a large pile of shale, the one boy has a shale cliff behind his house but he's a nut kinda. They bought some stuff from Kubota the biggest skid steer they made 4 years ago it never bogs down when mulching, they also bought a 120 size trackhoe dont know the model number of it, they're very successful .

I think it is a lot easier when taking down a tree to bring the mulcher up at high as it will go, and come down on top of the tree while it is still attached to the stump.

Not an attachment I thought I would ever see on one of your machines. But I like the fact you are willing to try it out. You've got a high flow machine, might as well try out some high flow attachments. Thanks for sharing!

no tree is safe from Chris. the new mulcher come in handy on jobs where a path needs cleared just to get to project. gets rid of brush etc in its path with added bonus of a mulch path help keep the mud down.

Is Chris going to see there is a place for mulching rather than burning in certain situations?
Possibly a selling point on clearing operations where the client is 'environmentally concerned'.
Plus it significantly increases soil fertility a year or so down the line.
ETA The important thing is NOT to incorporate the mulch into the soil for 12 months, otherwise it'll initially take nitrogen from the soil in the decomposition process.
    After that, it releases nitrogen.

I do not see that happen. He said in the video he does not see this for clearing jobs or house lots. :)

One piece of advice I wish someone would’ve given me when I first started with these is tilt down more. Instead of running it level to the ground. Pick the head up a inch or two more than what your doing here and Use the tilt down so it will use the tops of the knives instead of the bottom of the knives try to get your door level to the ground when it’s closed if that makes sense. Helps to keep from throwing so much and it’s less likely to bog on you when you get into bigger stuff

I seem to remember reading about those mulcher heads and sub-soiler units being used on smaller farms and such for field prep or revitalization. Basically a lot of limbs and pieces of unburned or charred up sticks, logs and stumps without rocks get laid out in fields. A mulcher comes along to turn them into so much chips and stuff then a subsoiler is used to turn the ground and put all those wood chips and ground up organics into the first twelve to eighteen inches of soil along with a broadcast of fertilizers.
If a lot of wood chips and whatnot are not fully available, then standard fresh green compost gets spread out and worked in for the extra organics. Depending on the sub-soiler unit, it can even grind up rocks of a certain size and hardness like smaller sized limestone pieces about the size of a baseball get turned into a gravel and powder that gets lime into the soils. It's really an interesting thing that if done on a three or five year rotation get to turn not so great soil into some real top notch stuff.
