When I used to play SAPSASA, the APY lands would play and literally everyone who wasn't playing would go to watch them, hands down one of the best experiences I have had. Probably around about 150 people watching everygame and we would all go to the huddle. They generally didn't play with shoes on and when they kicked a goal they would do backflips, bunch of legends.
We played them to and every team that wasn't playing was cheering them even though we were 64 points up. APY lands kept fighting even though we were smashing them.they had amazing determination.
That's not uncommon. It's a 300km round trip for us to train 2x nights a week and for home games. Some away games can be even further. We're on the Vic/NSW border, so hardly as isolated as these guys. Just pointing out that 300km trips aren't very uncommon at grassroots footy levels.
very true mate , I played in the woomera and districts league,, at different times we had teams from Roxby downs, andamooka, cooberpedy , even leigh creek (8 hours one way). we wanna play , we travelled.....
Great video, communities like the APY community are often forgotten about.. we all get caught up in our ‘complicated’ lives, should take a step back from all that and try enjoy the simple pleasures in life and be grateful for the opportunities we are given every day. Great stuff AFL and Virgin Australia
This is awesome. Even as someone who doesn't really know a lick about footy, sports is a great way of unifying communities. The quality of athletes that treacles in the AFL that are indigenous peoples, or of background is unparallel. Too see further opportunity in AFL working hand in hand is promising.
I wasn't born in Australia. Because of that I moved here with massive respect and knowledge of the lands original owners. New Zealand seem to incorporate this better from a young age in their school and culture. All I have to say is good on you lads. I would love nothing more than to go visit majorly indigenous locations. To pay respects and help in any way I can. Stay proud brothers.
@@voltfooty Yeah man - scrap the Gold Coast team - waste of time and money and give their license to NT - The Northern Territory Suns sounds better by a mile and they'll turn into a proper footy club that will be respected. Axe North Melbourne and send them down to Tassie to become the Tasmania Kangaroos. Too many teams in Victoria.
I played one game there. I was staying in indulkana with my ex GF for 6 months. I was the only white guy playing & they play hard out there. Lots of fun.
I remember versing APY lands in SAPSASA District footy(all districts in South Australia come together from year 6 and 7s),they were in the bottom div but they did really well, Eddie Betts came out to watch them, some of them were playing in bare feet
Sad to see the original owners of our land don't have the same opportunities as others, they should be able to go to any game for free it's their land we are playing on
I live in a place called wagga i play for east wagga hawks in nsw we are a strong but low people community please feel free to check us out also its juniors we are struggling please feel free to help us out
When are the Power going to play a good team in China? Suns and Saints????? How about West Coast, Collingwood, Crows or Richmond? Play a dud to make yourselves look good.
What the afl and virgin is doing to communities like this is amazing, keep it up
@M the comment had nothing to do with soccer mate

Played sapsasa school footy against APY lands and got absolutely flogged, the passion they showed playing footy was absolutely incredible

An example of the heart and soul of our great game. Man I love footy!
300km to get to a footy match. That's crazy dedication

@@joshkleine21 Wow I only need to travel at the most 50km but that's because I live right in the suburbs of Melbourne

@@joshkleine21 wow with my local league the furthest you need to travel is only like 15 km if that.
300km... on corrugated roads.
That's serious dedication.

For god's sake. Can we just layoff? Can't we like both?
Australian rules footy is the best!!!!💪🏻🏉
Soccer sucks and is played by flogs that are scared of contact
Then go watch some and leave the Footy vids to those who appreciate it.
