    Guess what, guys!? A few minutes ago, a hummingbird came knocking at our Florida room windows to tell us she's back from her winter vacation, and needs food! :) I'm so tickled by this - how brilliant these birds are - to return to the same place after months and months away, to know to look inside for the person who brings them food! (I love them so dearly that I was really delighted to see that they've returned!) Scurried to the kitchen to get their food ready, retrieved the feeders and filled them, now waiting for the breakfast crowd to return. Note to self: be ready by May 1st for h'birds' return. :) By the way, started some cooler-weather seeds indoors and have those seedling already in containers outside. Next sets of seedling are in the works now. God's good to us. :) Thank you kindly for all the great information and encouragement you guys give - what a blessing you are! God bless...

    Thank you for your videos. You inspire me to think outside the box. I've been saving the red plastic Folgers containers for awhile, for "something, someday". Now I can see plants in them. 😃 I also used the big plastic pretzel jars to cover my tomato and pepper plants when it got too cold, they had holes cut (melted) into them for air flow.

    I got rolly pollies in my tote and it wasn't up against anything. I go through everyday and pick them out. I am so excited about your new driveway Garden. It is inspiring me to continue. I am buying up as many saves as I can but I already did have a good stash. I have become a little obsessed about saved and not even because of covid-19 just because it feels empowering to have a good quantity but I can plant whatever I feel like I want it. My goal is to have seeds that I can share with friends and Neighbors turn family.

    We were going to start a garden bed at our local community garden but with laws we aren’t able to start anything there so now we are starting seeds at home in tubs we have already. I had got a bunch of seeds months ago.
    We have been growing fruits. Now we are working on more herbs & veggies! Since we are all home the kids are enjoying planting 🥰💚🌿

    🇬🇧 So far I've managed to get most of the veg/herb/flower seeds that I want without waiting too long and local garden centres which don't normally do internet deliveries have seen the light and are delivering pots, compost and bedding plants, though we have sometimes had to wait a few weeks. One delivery came only two days after ordering ! And we are sharing seed grown plants with one another via food delivery relatives. But some of my old seeds just sat in their pot and said stuff you. I love your site Robbie and just wish I could get some of your big boxes so have to make do with small ones. Expecting tulle, reusable plant ties and something else (?) next week. Roll on home grown veg. I've loads to plant out. 👍👍🍓🍓💗💗 edit just read a comment. I need a soldering iron, ordering today, and really, really wish I had a warmth holding wall instead of a trellis fence.

    I wanted to share my experiment with you I did the tulle in container. Paper cups and toilet paper rolls, well believe it or not I planted the containers 1st then a few days later the cups and I did the ticket paper rolls in a container and my seeds growing better this way all seeds sprouted quickly. I do have a few cups growing and a few seeds in the containers with tulle but 100% germination in the toilet paper n paper towel rolls. I went with my dad's opinion the cardboard holds moisture and cups have plastic and don't. So it had me thinking 🤔 so I decided to do a test and he's 100% correct when I water my plants I add a little water to each tube then some in the container and nothing is drying out like the others for me this is a correct way to go. Just wanted to share my experiment thanks for the video

    I've started seed on hot pad & grow lights on a shelf with mylar lined all sides. I haven't purchased seed, but I could only find 2 tomato starts, but no lettuce starts. Squash, cucumber, melon, eggplant, all easy to start by seed so I had all of those on hand from my own supply of years past. I've been using your "tote" suggestions. I'm still not seeing anymore then 6 hummingbirds, which is very sad, but I have seen one lizard which made me very happy. I'm located in Camarillo, CA.

    The driveway garden will be a jungle very soon; looks really good. I will be sprouting my seeds, as well. I don’t want to wait to see if it grows or not. Please show us how to keep the little “pill bugs” out of the totes? I have plenty of those in the garden. Just a note: Territorial Seed Co. in Cottage Grove, OR is accepting orders on line. I have ordered twice and have received confirmation for both with one order in transit. Everything I ordered has been available, but there were a lot of out of stock items some of which I wanted. My WalMart here is staying well stocked with seeds, plants, and soil, so far. They are doing a great job. You may remember I mentioned that my garden hose contains DEHP. Question: Is a garden hose made of rubber nontoxic? Do you have any info? It is warming up here now and I am excited to start planting. Take care. You are a joy. Thank you. Blessings

  • @dreamzofhorses
    @dreamzofhorses 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just bought seeds from Cali Kim (YT gardener) and another website because I have had challenges finding seeds or the ones I find are expensive. I bought several organic vegetables to take seeds and grow from. Now I’m stocking up on seeds since I am hearing of potential food shortages. Also meat, though we are not big meat eaters, but there have been warnings of shortages due to meat packing plant employees have been having huge outbreaks in several plants (Tyson chicken is one). I’m cutting, dividing and bagging and freezing a little at a time and seems like there is less and less available every time I go to the stores (about once every two weeks). Our garden is just getting started and I’ve been starting seeds. Perhaps a video that would be helpful would be properly collecting and storing seeds for long term. It may come down to us individuals sharing, trading or selling our own seeds.

    I just had an idea - for the upside-down tomato planters that are too shallow for most things - why not put another larger container on top of the shallow planter box? I used to have one of those planters and I think the legs would probably hold up well enough under the additional weight?

  • @deborahtinsman6410

    I have always had a hard time throwing away seeds, which this year is a good thing since i couldnt get out much. I had about 6 half packs of chard seeds going back to 2005. I figured most of them were dead. I decided to layer them in a pyrex baking dish between layers of damp paper towel and see what happened. As they sprouted i put them in little pots with dirt. When i ran out of pots i put them in milk cartons, coffee bags, yogurt containers etc. i now have hundreds of chard plants and am going to give them away.
    I also ran out of seed starting mix, but i have access to a huge pile of horse donkey goat manure. It is full of seeds. I ran it theough hardware cloth and baked it for 2 hours at 400 degrees. I sugest you do it on a nice day when you can be outside. The smell was horrible. It killed the weed seeds tho and is working well to put seedlings in and as base for seed starting mix. (Sand, baked poop, and vermiculite which i got from a cousin)
    Where there is a will there is a way.
    If you want some scarlet runner beans i saved a lot last year. They are beautiful. Thanks for yr posts.
