Letterman embracing the hand he was dealt with the out of control little kid was brilliant. He played off it and made the whole segment hilarious. He was a Master.
I'd like to think that the segment producers did not warn him. I picture them watching from the studio wings and laughing themselves silly at Dave's predicament.
8 days after getting out of the army after a 4-year stint I smoked weed for the very first time - this was on TV that night, and this is what I watched - nothing has been the same ever since
ALL of the kids were GREAT!.. They're KIDS!.. And Letterman's way of talking to/dealing with each of them is a beautiful thing to behold.. I cant get enough of this clip!..
@@NormAppleton most six year olds don’t have a 60 year old uncle. Maybe a grandparent, but their aunts and uncles and likely 30-40, like their parents.
It's the new Howie Mandel! That was perfect! And the punchline "snowballs" was hilarious. Thanks for this fun clip. It really shows how quick-witted Dave is. 😃
I always enjoy kids doing funny stuff. And the little bitty girl was too cute. Big expressive eyes , and she did great telling her joke! They all were good.
Just like with the audience, the first kid had me laughing SO much. I have watched this video now a few times since a few days ago just to laugh hysterically, specially at his joke, but also all his actions combined including his minute laugh right before his punchline, he knowing some mischief was coming. And yes, the little bitty girl was so adorable, and then her going next to the older girl and holding hands was also special.
When television was at its finest, I remember watching Letterman almost every night I watch Letterman and I love this segment when he brings the kids on and they tell jokes or either showing him like and what they invented that’s when kids were kids just so innocent and Funny and fun things were so much better back then now all kids do is watch Kim Kardashian and listen to Drake and they’re on their TikTok and Instagram and wear sweatpants to school and oversize jackets and boots. I don’t know and they’re in some of them are really rude actually Anyways best television ever letterman I got the opportunity to see Letterman live in New York City many many many years ago it was so awesome.
The kids were cute and even funny. Dave should get an award for making great humor out of really awkward situations, plus the way he treated the kids was tops. But i bet he wished he had a fly swatter for the jumping bean.
I think I remember seeing this live lol. I always loved David Letterman with his quick wit and funny banter with his guest. No other talk show host could ever have done it better. He was one of a kind and I miss him as Late Night host.
He escaped and will grow up having parents that coddle him and think he’s great. They’ll be on Dr Phill pleading for help. Still living with his mom. Dad left years ago. No job, drug addiction. Not good at anything except video games. Wind up going postal killing his parents first then school mates.
The girl with the red shirt I think should be the winner. The boy in the green shirt by now is probably hosting a late night show somewhere on this planet.
The last kid was wearing an “Operation Desert Storm” tshirt. I know it’s crazy now, but back then it was just as nuts. Desert Storm was like a fun thing for kids. They also had Desert Storm trading cards and merchandising of everything you can think of.

The joke about the little man is just world class. Ooh my God.

Why did the moron stay on the sinking boat? He was a little more on.

Alana Jacobs is brilliant in this video. She guides Dave through the joke with a lot of poise. And it is not an easy joke to tell. Very impressive.
Kept right on subject, and was committed to seeing the joke through. Very impressive.

Yes... that's why we miss Letterman. He is brilliant.
Not just that but he made jokes that went over the kid's head so he didn't feel bad but everyone could laugh.
