  • Kit lenses don't have the best reputation, but this one is excellent.
The 18-55mm was a loaner copy provided by Fujifilm. All opinions are my own.

Hit everything on the head. The lens doesn’t guarantee anything other than your field of view - skill, knowing your camera and setting matters way more.
I can’t even begin to count the amount of images I’ve taken with a “sharp” lens and botched shutter speed or my iso and sharpness just flies out the window.
    Great job GOAT!

i agree man! of course how the lenses are made varies, but so much of IQ is whether or not your settings were proper.
i’m also guilty of that 😂 but thanks man!

The 18-55 is a compact beast. I still own my beat-up copy, (and it still works!) along with my 16-55. And when it dies for good, I'll get another one again. It's that worth it. Great video!

Well done! I started with the 18to55 and the XT20 three years ago. And just as you said, it's a very good lens for learning photography.

Very well said. It was a very entertaining video that's different than your typical lens video talking about sharpness, optimal fstops, vignetting, ca, etc etc. love the format and lots that you said makes very good sense.
I have the 18-55 myself and honestly I don't use it much, but when I do use it I never really feel that it's lacking (ois, useful range, f2.8, good build and feel, decent focus speed) it's a nice general lens that's not great at anything specifically but it's good enough for most things, especially for someone new to photography

i definitely agree with what you said, good for any real general purpose a photographer at any level might have, and needs to be considered for what it is.
      thanks for watching!

Love this.... If I hadn't been told so, I wouldn't have know that the 18-55 was considered a "kit lens". The lens came with my barely used XT-3 purchase about 1 1/2 years ago. Other than some Canon FD vintage lenses it's the only lens I've owned so far. I so love your point about using this lens to learn before buy more expensive glass. Instead of buying primes I set the 18-55 at one of the focal lengths to practice shooting there. Since it's a zoom lens you also learn how to create short DOF using your distance to the subject. I did make a mistake recently by renting the 56mm f1.2. Damn that was nice. Now I want to spend some money!! LOL! Great video sir!

Nice video Doriyan, I purchased the 18-55 (as a kit) when I got the X-T2, but I did get the 16-80 with the X-T4 (also as a kit) not because it's a better lens, it was just for the fact that it is a little longer range at both ends and cheaper when it's sold as a bundle. BTW, I still have the 18-55 and it's not going anywhere. I'm looking forward to your next video. Be well and stay safe.

    • @doriyancoleman
      @doriyancoleman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

thank you! and makes sense. the 16-80 is definitely an interesting case when compared to this one (i like it as well), but it definitely seems to come down to the extra range vs. 2.8 and a more compact size.
thanks again! you stay safe as well

Another nice video Doriyan, I had the 18-55 too, but bought an XT4 with the 16 - 80 which is a great lens too. The 15-45 is the one I kept as paired to the XE3 it just makes sense, never used the 18-55 anymore. I mix video and Photography so like you said the OIS is useful.

@@victoradi6701 i see. personally, i would go with the x-t3 since they can be found used for great prices now, and i’ve seen rumors that fujifilm plans to continue giving it quality of life firmware updates in the future.
also, if autofocus is a priority, you’ll certainly have a better time with the x-t3, not that the x-t2 is “awful” by any means.

My camera fell and broke the 18-55 right off the mount! I liked the lens so much, I'm currently paying $235 to have it fixed by Fuji. In times like this, I like to come to these reviews and see I'm not alone in thinking this lens is great. I've had some terrible Canon 18-55's in the past and Fuji is a few steps above. Plus it still lists for like $700 new.
