ANYONE WATCHING A TRICK FOR PRIMING /running fuel pump: I discovered that removing the blue DDE relay in the engine bay and turning the ignition on turns the fuel pump ON 🎉
why is it necessary to have diagnostic tools for and prime? just switch the ignition on and it will take care of itself, and the pump turns off when the required pressure is reached.
If you want to do it correctly you need to prime the pump. You can definitely do it without priming but you will run the pump dry and decrease it's life. Takes no effort to prime, do it the right way instead :)
@@Lefteris7 Thanks for the reply, I have access to the diagnostic program ista d, I just changed the filter and delivery pump on the e65 m57, how does the diagnostic program prime the pump?
@@Lefteris7 yes, it's a very good program, but i never try to prime the pump, only run the pump for a minute or two, I thought the system was self-venting?
With all due respect, these cars have a self bleeding system & venting system. No need to use a Diag tool for it ! It's written in the books how to use the self bleeding system. Worked for changing injectors, fuel pumps.. etc ! :-)
With all due respect, I'm not sure where it's written in the books to NOT prime the fuel system. It's literally the easiest thing and ensures longevity of the high pressure fuel pump from running. That's "in the books" from Bosch for their pump. I am curious though why you are watching a diy video in it's entirety on replacing a diesel fuel filter if you already know more than me
@@Lefteris7 well, as with many video’s , people take examples. It’s not needed. The car PRIMES itself! Read the haynes manuals and workshop manuals. No need for a diagnostic tool or anything. Saves people money!
@@mickstick2830 im not forcing anyone to do anything. I merely showing the proper way. If you don't want to prime thru obd have at it. I'll agree to disagree with you. Also the Haynes manual is the worst thing to use. Additionally the Haynes manual does not capture 335d, diesel m57 engines. It merely offers general guidelines. Good luck with your fuel filter
I would not risk priming via ignition as you will stress the fuel pump prematurely. I highly advise you get some sort of diagnostic to do this whether it's protool, or some other obd that can do this
I agree. I did not prime mine correctly years ago. I believe I may have damaged the mechanical fuel pump and years later needed to replace it. It is not an inexpensive pump.
This is a great tutorial. Easy to follow. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

🎉
This works… just be careful and disconnect the battery before you remove the fuse and before you put it back in
Only you after replacment a filter diagnost that , and for me that is a very good , i sow
I saw that many people do not do this but force the pumps
Saved me so much time, had the wrong fuel filter, I noticed from how the sensor goes, it's Just flat no bumps on the side to make alignment with
At how many miles do you recommend replacing the fuel filter for a 335d?
I do mine every other oil change. It's quick and easy enough to do, for that piece of mind.
So will the protool by bimmergeeks work for the priming part?
Yea, absolutely that's probably the most ideal tool in this case over what I showed
What model foxwell is needed to do that procedure? Thanks
The diesels must be primed like this.
What's the other scan tool you have out of interest?
Xtool d8, another one id recommend is the bimmergeek system
What tablet / diagnostic tool is the other one? My dad has a decent one but I only use Carly at the moment, I need a better diagnostic tool.
Xtool but not needed. Just get the protool from binmergeeks
Can you use any foxwell scanner to prime filter?
Most likely not. Their cheap ones that can only read general codes will not work. If it can read different modules probably yes

How long does the prime take? Is it more than 3 minutes?
2-3 minutes usually. You can prime more than once if you need to
@@Lefteris7 thank you worked on the second try
@@Lefteris7 Is the fuel system bleeding function on that Foxwell available for newer N47 engines? Thank you!

I wish the leather on my drivers seat was that clean lol

@@Lefteris7 i do this for a living, just wanted to point it out, without you feeling attacked, but my mision failed. Have good one.
So basicly you just connect the new filter and you just start the car?
Just had my fuel filter done 1 day ago now as i was driving it cut off cant get the car turn on think they put wrong fuel filter or air still stuck
Damn sorry to hear, definitely take it back to them and have them make it right
