Hey there - I would recommend emailing Displate and asking them if they can help. They are pretty picky about who they are approving (but I know that they do occasionally let in new artists). Good luck!
Hey there - I find their SEO and ads are top notch - they advertise on Facebook and their Pinterest page is really popular. I've never had to personally drive traffic - all my sales come organically or through their advertsing.
I dont understand how licensing works there. lets say if I upload a very known IP like batman, is that still allowed and they are licenced to use the name/ip and I don't get in any trouble?
Hey there - there are licensed shops on Displate but they are the official store (so DC Comics has their own store for example). I don’t sell any trademarked stuff - there are people who list celebrity faces and music posters, but those likenesses are protected so to me it is too risky to list stuff like that (if Warner Music were to file a complaint, the Displate artist would most likely be banned).
Yes the trick is finding images that are 300 dpi AND also fit the Displate template size (4060 x 2900 pixels). I've used public domains on there and sometimes I run it through Inkscape to get a true vector (and scale it way up).
Great question - there is no listing fee - once in a while they have a 10 or 30 daily max limit on uploads but it’s free. People sometimes complain about the low commissions ($2-10 USD) but I’m happy to plug away and make sales

i want to add some video game pictures, not really to sell but just to make them and buy them for myself. how does that work considering the games and images i want to use are most likely copyrighted
I would not recommend that - if you don't own the intellectual property (i.e. the trademark), then you don't have the legal right to make a copy of that work for a print. I would recommend seeing if the video game company has products for sale? Displate does have some licensed shops like Marvel, TV shows, movies, Transformers, etc.
@@zenwatercooler just asking because some games i was looking for did not have any images, and was thinking about making the gun pictures of the CS go ones represented and use halo weapons instead. wasn’t sure if i could use the halo names since they are more unique than the real weapons of CS go
So I'm assuming if I wanted to use a photo from a intro of a show, i couldnt use it for copyright reasons? I ask because i see many people using art from shows.
I would generally agree-anything that identifies the specific show would be the intellectual property of the company that produced the show. There are ways around it... sort of: th-cam.com/video/a6fZfC44kQY/w-d-xo.html
You are totally right, I just uploaded a bunch and they were published and they are only M and L. But the older ones are still offered in XL. That is weird. I reached out to the Displate ambassador and asked what is going on - hopefully I'll hear back shortly! Good catch, I had not noticed that!!
There are many official stores on Displate (like Marvel and DC have official Displate shops) - and there's a grey line with movies and games. I personally don't venture into any of that - I don't want to risk my monthly income selling something that could ever be considered infringing on a trademark.
Hey there - I don’t see why not - the only difference I have seen is that there is no apparel obviously but the general genres are similar. Good plan! 🤑🤑🤑
@@zenwatercooler thank you very much for your reply. By the way, I'm looking for tutorials of insightfactory.app but I haven't found a good one yet. Do you have any recommendations?
Yes great question and absolutely you could. It’s just personal preference on my part (and trying to show the design in general rather than have it only feature Inkscape). Totally, there are lots of great (& inexpensive) software options
It varies depending on if there is a sale. Typically the commission is $2 for the smallest up to $10 for the XL. Most of the time it is around $3.50 per sale.
I wish they had some Bladerunner or Bladerrunner2049 film posters :( they don't , I tried seeing if they Had any Harry Potter and they don't :( . I have a question: Can you request some art work that "Displate" don't have to be put onto your displate, if you just send them a photo of what you want, on your displate?
That's a great question. I have seen in some Reddit threads that some Displate artists take requests. So people post what they want and then an artist will announce they have something for sale that (hopefully) helps match up customer demand with supply.
It’s tough to say why they wouldn’t be approved - the artwork needs to be 4060 x 2900 pixels at 300 dpi. The 300 dpi is usually the hard part (manually adjusting the dpi in Photoshop won’t work).
With Displate do they tell you when a design is rejected? It just shows my uploaded designs awaiting validation, when I click on them it tells me whoops they are not available, its been 4 days now, could you shine a light on how rejections/ failures work? I have realised 2-3 will be rejected due to over manipulating pixels on the first 3 uploads, not realizing my error. My further 7 were all 400 dpi & not manipulated via documented dpi resizing.
Yes normally the designs are validated through the week (like Tuesday-Friday). You will see “approved” eventually. I have like 30 sitting there too, sometimes it happens Monday morning but this week it looks like there’s a bit of a delay
@@zenwatercooler Thank you for the prompt reply I stopped uploading my 10 a day thinking I had done something wrong or misunderstood how things worked.
If you want to use public domain (copyright free) artwork, that is definitely legal. Many of my designs use public domain elements. You can search on Displate for "Mona Lisa" for example and see a bunch of results.
There is no direct way but sometimes the artists have their contact info in their bio. There are also Reddit threads about Displate and I've seen some people ask for a certain Displate on those (and if an artist can do it, they will post something and hopefully help out).
No - Displate is a print-on-demand marketplace. So the general idea is that you create designs, upload them to Displate, and then when someone buys a Displate, the company makes the metal plate and ships it out. Hope that helps!
So they wont accept me if I just send attachments through email? I have to make a portfolio? I don't have an instagram because I don't like how it requires you to use your phone to upload.. when all the files are on my desktop. Would Pintrest be better? I also don't want to upload my images on some random site without watermarking my work in case someone tries to steal? I don't think Displate will accept watermarked portfolios correct? So is there a way around this? You said Redbubble might work?
Marvel & DC, can one artist create characters from their universe, complete original idea. How can one individual arist get license, which I guess will be way above normal artists reach. . Just wan t to know the legality of all this.Thank you
Displate has official shops for Marvel and DC (so regular people like you and me cannot make those designs). You could always reach out to a company and ask to purchase a license but it would be really expensive for global companies like Marvel Comics or Disney for example. I recommend using public domain assets to make great-looking designs!
According to their website they are acceptings artists, but I have heard from fellow TH-camrs that their submissions were not accepted. I definitely recommend applying, hopefully they can provide a concrete answer for your application!
How hard is it to get into Displate these days? Would a modest portfolio of creative and high quality images do it. Should you send them a link to you best 20 images for example?
I can't say for certain how difficult it is (I only know that I applied and got in and I don't work for Displate) but I would definitely agree with you to put your best designs forward to show them you are top notch!

I find that Displate is a best with their own promotion (they pay for ads on Facebook and other websites) so I think I spent like $10 once on Pinterest just to try it out but 99.999999% of the sales have been organic. I'm too lazy to promote to be honest.
Do they pay via PayPal?
Do you know any similar websites like displate which can ship such metal posters to india
what type of art shall i sale in the displate
I really enjoy the video. However, I do have a question. After creating the vector file, he talks about cleaning up the image, but does not show how. Anyone know how to clean up the file? I want to be able to do this with Displate and other sites. Thanks for any advice.
Hey there - yes I have a whole channel dedicated to artist resources (including cleaning up images): th-cam.com/video/PiySS_6E0DY/w-d-xo.html
@@zenwatercooler, thank you very much. I am trying to sell on Displate, Redbubble and other sites. The idea is to have something my wife can continue after I am gone since I have an incurable lung disease. Quite a lot to learn. :)
i want to add some video game pictures, not really to sell but just to make them and buy them for myself. how does that work considering the games and images i want to use are most likely copyrighted
You're fricking awesome
Nice vid bro
how to get accepted on displate
Good video thanks.
I just wondering, why now Displate not sell in XL size?
I uploaded 4000x5600 px image and option only M and L size?
Was your design in landscape? (Landscape is only M and L).
@@zenwatercooler No, in portrait. if I upload in size more than 4000X5600px not approved.
You are totally right, I just uploaded a bunch and they were published and they are only M and L. But the older ones are still offered in XL. That is weird. I reached out to the Displate ambassador and asked what is going on - hopefully I'll hear back shortly! Good catch, I had not noticed that!!
@@zenwatercooler Great, I waiting Displate answer. Thanks
They just told me it’s a technical issue (website) and they are working on it & hope to have it resolved son.
Again great understandable instructions. In the trenches
How about copyright i see some plate from movies and games are they fine with this ?
There are many official stores on Displate (like Marvel and DC have official Displate shops) - and there's a grey line with movies and games. I personally don't venture into any of that - I don't want to risk my monthly income selling something that could ever be considered infringing on a trademark.
Hi I'm using insightfactory.app for finding trends on redbubble and merch by amazon, do you think I can use the same trends on displate too?
Hey there - I don’t see why not - the only difference I have seen is that there is no apparel obviously but the general genres are similar. Good plan! 🤑🤑🤑
@@zenwatercooler thank you very much for your reply. By the way, I'm looking for tutorials of insightfactory.app but I haven't found a good one yet. Do you have any recommendations?
Just asking, can't you continue the edit on inkscape?
Yes great question and absolutely you could. It’s just personal preference on my part (and trying to show the design in general rather than have it only feature Inkscape). Totally, there are lots of great (& inexpensive) software options
Maybe I missed it, but percentage of each sale do you get to keep?
It varies depending on if there is a sale. Typically the commission is $2 for the smallest up to $10 for the XL. Most of the time it is around $3.50 per sale.
thanks, How to create store?
having created a vector image, putting it back into photoshop will turn it into a raster image of less quality
Buddy!
They never accept new artists
Any ideas?
I wish they had some Bladerunner or Bladerrunner2049 film posters :( they don't , I tried seeing if they Had any Harry Potter and they don't :( . I have a question: Can you request some art work that "Displate" don't have to be put onto your displate, if you just send them a photo of what you want, on your displate?
That's a great question. I have seen in some Reddit threads that some Displate artists take requests. So people post what they want and then an artist will announce they have something for sale that (hopefully) helps match up customer demand with supply.
@@zenwatercooler Oh wow thank you for writing back to me
How many designs do you have on displate ? I just have 3 designs .
Lots and lots - I try to upload at least 10 a week
I uploaded many designs with the standard of their requirement but all of them had been not approved, could you please help? Thank you!
It’s tough to say why they wouldn’t be approved - the artwork needs to be 4060 x 2900 pixels at 300 dpi. The 300 dpi is usually the hard part (manually adjusting the dpi in Photoshop won’t work).
@@zenwatercooler thank you very much! I set 300 dpi in photoshop manually at the beginning, let me try it again. :)
Ty
Hi you displate pro xD
What is the best way to promote displates? You know, you can get up to 50% per sale.
thanks, never heard of them, good looking site
Can I send them esty shop as portfolio
THANKYOU
I'm not the best graphic designer but I have some good designs. However Displate does not accept me on their platform. I have tried many times.
Can we sell Copyright Free Art if we are not artists ?
If you want to use public domain (copyright free) artwork, that is definitely legal. Many of my designs use public domain elements. You can search on Displate for "Mona Lisa" for example and see a bunch of results.
10:38, i am sub to both of your channels
How would i contact a displate creator?
There is no direct way but sometimes the artists have their contact info in their bio. There are also Reddit threads about Displate and I've seen some people ask for a certain Displate on those (and if an artist can do it, they will post something and hopefully help out).
Can I sell from this site by way of dropshipping?
No - Displate is a print-on-demand marketplace. So the general idea is that you create designs, upload them to Displate, and then when someone buys a Displate, the company makes the metal plate and ships it out. Hope that helps!
What's your displate shop name?
So they wont accept me if I just send attachments through email? I have to make a portfolio? I don't have an instagram because I don't like how it requires you to use your phone to upload.. when all the files are on my desktop. Would Pintrest be better? I also don't want to upload my images on some random site without watermarking my work in case someone tries to steal? I don't think Displate will accept watermarked portfolios correct? So is there a way around this? You said Redbubble might work?
can i send them my Redbubble shop as portfolio?
Yes you can
Marvel & DC, can one artist create characters from their universe, complete original idea.
@@zenwatercooler Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction
U didnt talk about prices & profit margins...
Oups! I have thousands of mostly text designs.
And my personal Art isn't particularly family-friendly.
Do they still accept artist?
According to their website they are acceptings artists, but I have heard from fellow TH-camrs that their submissions were not accepted. I definitely recommend applying, hopefully they can provide a concrete answer for your application!
Does anyone know if Displate is possible with using Canva?
I don't think it will work with the free version (because the image would be too small). The minimum for Displate is 4060 x 2900 pixels at 300 dpi.
@@zenwatercooler thank you
How can we make DC or Marvel designs without copyright
You can't. At least not legally. I would recommend creating your own artwork.
@@zenwatercooler As you have said you have bought the superman artwork then who made that?
Their own artists?
Yes DC is a licensed vendor with Displate (as is Marvel, Star Wars, etc) - there are some awesome licensed designs and the quality is really high ⚡️
I'm curious, what is the name of your DIsplate shop? :)
Right?????? idk why he doesn't post a link to it
How hard is it to get into Displate these days? Would a modest portfolio of creative and high quality images do it. Should you send them a link to you best 20 images for example?
I can't say for certain how difficult it is (I only know that I applied and got in and I don't work for Displate) but I would definitely agree with you to put your best designs forward to show them you are top notch!
