Congrats! I'm a legit graphic designer with almost 10 years of experience with Photoshop and I can't get in. Wth is wrong with Displate approval system ? I see really awful designs on the site and I wonder how some of those people get accepted :(
I totally agree - I suspect you would kick my butt in the graphics design department - I do OK designs but not spectacular. Displate is constantly growing their brands and I would suspect that they will want to continue to accept new artists. I hope that is the case soon!
Same too! I have some experience with Photoshop and I want to create some cool posters mixing several images but I cannot get in! I made my application several months ago and not a word from them!
Same here. I applied 5 times over the last 12 months and I always get an instant automated rejection. I created an online portfolio as required by them, still nothing. I even offered to drop in to their head office in Warsaw last week when I was surprised to discover my Airbnb was just 2 miles away from their offices and they just said no, but "enjoy your stay in Warsaw" 🤦♂!! I don't get it 🤷♂ My designs have 1,000's of sales on other platforms and would suit metal plates perfectly! Time for a competitor to emerge, I'm done begging them.
Thanks for a great video. Never heard of displate, but it looks pretty cool. I saw a giant map printed on canvas in a high end furniture store close to me. My step-mom fell in love with it. It didn't have a price if that tells you how much they wanted for it! But I was able to track down the actual map that they started with. It was an old telegraph line map that had been inverted. Looked pretty cool. My plan has always been to do very local designs. Just gotta figure out how to market them. Thanks again! Great and informative as always.
Consistency is key. My favorite tip was number 4, Quantity, I've done some high quality artworks, they are less than 10, and only 3 were accepted, which is really depressing when you spend hours on an artwork that you're proud of, and then it gets rejected. but looking at successful artists, their numbers of Displates are way beyond mine, which gives me strong motivation to keep going and make consistent amounts of high quality artworks, I'm on that, and I'm in this journey, I'll do my best! And mad respect for the video!
Congratulations on your achievement! 🤩 I have a request! Can you please show us an example of your work on displate? If not the exact one, atleast the type? For our inspiration?🤗
Great video❤ I just have one serious question that bothered me, why in displate I can find normal store ( am not talking about brand stores ) that make copyright posters like 80s, 90s movies or even anime Thanks as always
From my experience, those types of posters are trademarked - I personally don't want to risk getting my store banned so I stick to generic, public-domain type designs. I've seen Displate cracking down on trademark-violating designs as they grow their partnerships with officially licensed shops.
TO ZEN: I really like your channel and content and what you share with us about POD. Thank you for all you are sharing! I do have a question regarding this video topic. Given the numbers of Displates you sold (15,026) and the total earnings ($43,111) shown in the report you shared, it appears you are only making a profit of about $2.86 per sold item. Is that correct? Can you increase your margins on Displate (i.e. can you set your own price or profit margin)? Please advise. Thanks.
Yes you are totally correct and it is a big complaint that I've seen artists talk about online. I make about $3.00 US per sale (it ranges from $1.70 to $11.00 depending on the size and if they have a sale). The margins are fixed (as the prices are fixed). I can't say people are wrong in their opinions, but I'm making hundreds of dollars a month and I upload only once a week for about an hour or two at most. So eventually it can be rewarding!
@@zenwatercooler Thanks for answering my question. I suppose like many things, if one puts little effort into it (uploading designs that have already been made for another platform), and that takes little time, and then those designs make money (as yours have), over time it can add up (as yours have, impressively). Again, thanks for your transparency and very good (helpful) videos. :)
Did anybody be accepted after a few months since they applied? They said they will email in a week if accepted, but still nothing from them. My images are looking good at over 4000 px, and I don't understand why they won't accept me.
Commissions can be as low as $1.50 and as high as $12.00 (approximately). It really becomes passive income and with decent designs sellers can definitely earn some good money!
It’s been my experience that retro and vintage phots and designs do sell. It all depends on the quality, originality and tagging(so it can be discovered). Go for it!
You sell on lots of platforms. I haven't even heard of most of them. Perhaps you'd do a video that lists all the platforms you use for POD. I'm sure your audience would love that information.
@@zenwatercooler Your regular viewers appreciate your hard work. Thanks. I imagine you sell different types of items on different platforms. Perhaps, if one video would be too long, you should group product types into different videos. One video for T-shirts, one for signs, one for personalized items (the sports card video was brilliant), one for digital downloads, etc.
Another question I had, how many designs have you uploaded? Can you give a round close figure? Your 600 dollars in 30 days is really amazing 🙌 I have around 500 designs and I get about 20 30 dollars per month.
Yes I have over 3000 designs on Displate - I basically uploaded 10 a day every day for about a year. I try to upload now once a week although I've been sick for a bit so I took about a month off. It's still fun!
@@zenwatercooler 3,000 and upload 10 designs a day? How long does it take you to make just one design in a day? Mostly all the professionals I watch with photo manipulation alone take 3 days to a week!!!! You're like the fastest artist I have ever heard of!!!
Yes for Displate I use 2900 x 4600 pixels and 300 dpi. Displate is tough because you can't manually scale up the dpi (somehow they know, even if you use Photoshop). So I use a lot of SVG files scaled up in Inkscape and any public domain photos I use are really big (like either 300 dpi or 10,000 x 10,000 pixels or larger).
I do not do any promotion - I have found that Displate advertises a lot on social media like Facebook, websites, etc. So I see increases in sales on specific designs once in a while and I think it is related to a design getting featured in an ad.
I have used Pinterest in the past (and even paid for advertising) but I have had a huge variance in the click rate (some get nothing and others get literally hundreds of thousands of views) - so I would say Pinterest but only the free version (don't pay for advertising). It's hit and miss. Displate does do a great job of advertising too!
@@zenwatercooler I've used Pinterest to promote my redbubble shop but it didn't work as u said, do you think promoting displates in Facebook groups worth it ? And thank you for the feedback
I am not aware of anyone with more than one Displate shop - the best seller artists have massive collections (albums) and they are pretty all over the place (I am not aware of any huge advantage to having multiple accounts - I sell all sorts of different things).
I've heard that, but then I get people telling me that they have been approved - so I think they ARE accepting new artists but maybe just not as many as before?
Hi zen, I follow your another channel crafty etax also there you to videos about lot of free sources designs and artworks vectors and cliparts , so can i make an new different and good looking design by just incorporating them and upload them to displate jusk like other POD sites ? And will i be successful in displate ? What is special about displate ...we can make hight quality designs in our mobile also right? What quality does it need what resolution and what dpi any other design quality parameters? Thank you!
Yes Displate is picky about their upload specs - they need to be 2900 x 4060 pixels and at least 300 dpi. The file sizes on some of my uploads can get pretty large. I think Displate has a competitive advantage because their actual physical product is superior (they are metal plates with magnets and I have found the quality to be great). I would personally recommend having a computer with higher-end graphics software to tackle Displate.
You certainly can - I would just recommend staying away from anything that is protected by trademark (so like if you have general anime designs or if you draw unique characters yourself, go for it!).
Can you tell me how to start selling on Displate? Is it ok to upload designed on instagram? Can I use Instagram as a portfolio? Is it possible to upload designed on instagram and get submit on displate?
Displate’s design upload process is REALLY picky. It needs to be at least 2900 x 4060 pixels at 300 dpi and exactly those proportions (it can be larger but not smaller). You can certainly apply to Displate and use whatever professional-looking online portfolio you have - it would be Displate’s decision to approve. I personally used Behance and it worked for me, but my portfolio featured my absolute best designs so I think the designs matter as much (or more) than where the portfolio is stored. I wish you luck!
Congratulations on 15k sales and thanks for the encouragement!
