they were managad by paul weller's dad. That's right. these guys are the closest thing to The Jam .
this is literally the most under-rated unknown history in all of 80s pop-mod
David Fenton was a lawyer- or law student- they played for a few years- but for fear of falling behind in his legal skills- they cut it short. Classic Paul Weller/David Fenton spirit= they knew just what they were doing.

I never knew that about Weller's dad. Explains the Jam influence that's so obvious from this band. You are right, HORRIDLY ignored band! As great as "Japanese" was as a single, it's probably the weakest thing they did.

Stefan Hinchliffe - while being as big as U2 is/was? i prefer the bands i love to remain slightly obscure... who wants ectomorphic frat boys standing literally on my own tiny feet, and in front of me, and then talking thru the whole show?

God Genius lyrics and music. Paul Weller's DAD? Holy God- this is like being blessed by GOD. At 16 in high school in rural Wisconsin i was is FUCKING love with The Vapors- had a teacher who explained the connotations of "turning Japanese" -- it was my first experience of defending my personal observation.
So between The Vapors, and my sweet teacher Gary Knoke: You taught me to question the zeitgeist.
I still love _every_ track they ever recorded. The same mentality and social engagement at Paul Weller.
    GOD GENIUS.
If you disagree, you are faulty.

Really tight musicianship, indivisible from the recorded studio version on the album.

I hear the Jam for sure, but they seem more American to me. Almost like Suburban Lawns or a low fi version of The Cars.

It's very unfortunate The Suburban Lawns never recorded any Peel Sessions? Or released a Peel Sessions Album? Just like many other Great Punk,Mod, & New Wave Bands in Hollywood & Los Angeles?

The Vapors - Peel Session 1979 21.2.23 1231pm actually the whole punk movement was situated about and around someone's musing upon the notion of making homemade soup and the variations of... that's it! that's all it's about... pissed off chef in the kitchen, some dude's making toast to go with that soup... stuff like that... you'd never credit it.
