Avoiding the Crowds on A Solo Motorcycle Camping Trip to Yellowstone!

    Wyoming is one of the best states for motorcycle touring. And taking a motorcycle trip through Yellowstone National Park should be on every rider’s bucket list. From wildlife, scenic drives, history, and of course, MOTORCYCLE CAMPING!…spending a few days in Yellowstone is a great way to unplug from the world...unless things don't go as planned. This year was MUCH different from the previous year in the park and I had to make a few last minute changes to enjoy my solo motorcycle camping trip.
    Day One: Grand Teton National Park to Madison Campground
    - After splitting off from the crew of the Devilstone Run, I decided to take a plunge in the chilly waters of Jenny Lake before heading into Yellowstone National Park. We’ll get to see a herd of buffalo before getting camp set up at the Madison Campground.
    Day Two: Gardiner, Montana
    - After multiple failed attempts trying to find parking (yes, even on a motorcycle!) at different attractions in the park, I decided to head outside the park boundary to explore Gardiner, Montana.
    Gardiner is the original gateway town to Yellowstone. It’s where you’ll find the Roosevelt Arch, the original entrance to the park.
    - After Lunch, we head back into the park and stop at Fort Yellowstone. For the decade after Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872, the park was under serious threat from those who would exploit, rather than protect, its resources. Poachers killed animals. Souvenir hunters broke large pieces off the geysers and hot springs. Developers set up camps for tourists near hot springs, along with bath and laundry facilities in the hot springs. In response, the U.S. Army and Civilians were hired to protect the park. (Source: NPS.Gov)
    - Afterward, we’ll ride the Upper Terrace Loop for a different view of Mammoth Hot Springs.
    Day Three: West Yellowstone
    - Another busy morning in the park meant that exploring another gateway town would be the best option, so we’re heading to West Yellowstone!
    - West Yellowstone is the busiest entrance to Yellowstone, and has been since 1913. Because so many visitors flock to the park via this entrance, the town of West Yellowstone has plenty of eateries and things to do.
    - Breakfast: Running Bear Pancake House (Highly Recommend!!)
    - The Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center: This Not for Profit organization is home to Grizzlies, Wolves, Otters, and other wildlife that you can find in the park. All animals that live here have been rescued rather than euthanized. Some of the Grizzlies are Kodiak Grizzlies, meaning they were rescued in Alaska and brought to the center after human conflicts.
    - The Museum of the Yellowstone: Before cars, motorcycles, and planes, the only way to get to West Yellowstone, was by train or horseback. Located in the original Union Pacific Railroad depot, the Museum of the Yellowstone takes you through the evolution and impacts of the park's Tourism in West Yellowstone.
    - Beartooth BBQ: This BBQ Joint has been serving up smoked meats to the West Yellowstone community since 1999!
    Lastly, we’ll enjoy a ride down Firehole Canyon to check out the falls and swimming hole.

    We were at the Beartooth Rally in July of 2021. Rode the Beartooth pass. Was 90* in Red Lodge Mt, when we headed for the pass. We got into hail, then sleet, then snow going over the pass. Gorgeous views at 11,000 ft though. Worth every minute.

    I saw Her Two Wheels’ videos of her traveling in Sturgis and Yellowstone and when the bison got too close to the road, she didn’t like that AT ALL! Lol. You didn’t seem all that concerned about it in your video, but you might not have been completely comfortable with it either. I don’t think I would have been. I really enjoyed her video and yours too. I wouldn’t like being stuck in standstill traffic either. You both had similar experiences with that.

    • @ridetofood
      @ridetofood  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wasn’t concerned at all but her situation was quite a bit different than any of my encounters. Had I been in dead stop traffic with a bison grunting at me, I’d be a bit terrified 😂 the traffics definitely the worst part of the park! Especially the tourists that randomly slam on their brakes for a photo lol

    Damn, that camping cup is so cool, where oh where did you get it? 😆😉 Another great video, I remember last year's trip. The Wolf and Bear Discovery Center definitely sounds like an awesome place to check out. I'll have to go when I make my way up there.

    Simply mentally preparing for all the traffic makes it easier to take. Sometimes it is a zoo.

    • @ridetofood
      @ridetofood  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. But when the traffic was less the year prior it was a bit difficult to prepare since it wasn’t expected lol

    Just wondering if you were solo as notated in the video as you keep saying "we"? Great video, what a beautiful park!

    Was planning to ride through Yellowstone earlier this year, the flood hit the park 2 days before I took off on the trip.
    Maybe next year

      At least you weren’t there when it happened, right? That would be quite the story/memory, though! Haha! Yellowstone will be there for you next year! 😊

    I had the same experience traveling during COVID. Roads were great for less traffic but amenities were closed or limited. I'm hoping to get to Yellowstone next year, the traffic seemed bad, but how was it getting a campsite?

    • @ridetofood
      @ridetofood  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I booked the campsite about six weeks in advance! So I definitely planned ahead. I definitely wouldn’t ever expect to find one day of in the park

    How do you like your Bell Star helmet and does the ear speaker actually seat by your ear. I have another bell helmet and speaker cut is behind your ear.
