@@mkbaq88Claiming that Turkish cuisine is merely Greek in origin ignores historical facts and the profound influence of geography on culinary traditions. To say "Turkish cuisine is just Greek" reflects, at best, ignorance, and at worst, a deliberate distortion. Every time I watch your video, I find myself ordering food at the end. Your passion for eating, being considerate not to hurt anyone's feelings, and not making negative comments are all really nice. I wish you all the best on your journey.✨
Just watched the whole series of videos from İstanbul and Ankara. As a 34 years old Turkish guy who has lived in Canada for 11 years and pretty much traveled all around the US between 2010 and 2021. I have watched tons of istanbul city tour or food tour videos like these while I was missing the city or when I had people over and wanted to show them the city vibes. In compharison your videos are my favorite ones by far. Usually when I watch other videos I feel like they are missing out on many good stuff, but in yours most of the locations were on point. Of course there are tons of more locations and spots but it is still pretty satisfying to watch. I can see you have used, google reviews with local and family type of restaurant mix. Some recommendations are, Just like cirağan kempinski there are other nice hotels, yes ciragan was a palace and it has an unique history but, mandarin oriental, four seasons and the peninsula are also creme de la creme hotels that you can experience luxury right by the Bosporus. Especially The Peninsula at Karakoy, the neighborhood that you spent a lot of time at is currently the best one you can find in İstanbul. You can leave, Karakoy, Kadıkoy and Taksim regions via metro to many other local spots. İstanbul is a city with not one downtown but maybe like 15 downtowns :). In all there are different attraction points for food. There is a Turkish channel called, Ayakustu lezzetler. those guys are crazy about food and they go to the best locations around istanbul and usually do it by neighborhood. I would highly recommend them for you to be able to find out more spots. For example there was no pide in your videos, pide is a must :) The fish spot with the salmon sandwich is one of the best! Your general attitude is very friendly and you get it back from the people! The karakoy fish wrap, is so famous. My office is there and those spots use to be freshly caught fish local spots but now there are people who came from the one party of turkey where there is no sea and started to serve frozen mackerel from norway :/ since they sauce it up it adds up an umami and tastes good but it has lost its authenticity. If you feel comfortable driving, definitely rent a car and go all the way down towards izmir or bodrum from İstanbul by stopping at BURSA, and AYVALIK (CUNDA) on your way. Great videos once again! I appreciate that you give back to the community with your tips as well. I live in Istanbul, if you need any help or questions just reply back I'll be happy to support in any way! take care!
22:23 I'm writing from Turkey. The green drink you are talking about should not be consumed during meals because it is very acidic. It is usually consumed after eating if there is bloating, as it helps to relieve it. However, I must warn you that it can cause unpleasant burping. Just wanted to let you know this from Istanbul.
Youre absolutely spot on for wet burger. It is the go to drunk food of Istanbul. Taksim is filled with bars and Kızılkayalar is open till very late. It is also known for its cheapness. 3 big drunk food are: Wet Burger, Tantuni and Kokoreç with Midye Dolma (Mussel).
Another tip, you can almost always pick your own table. You don't have to ask. Rice bean is really the real thing and most famous comfort food like you said for Turks.
Admired to see how much you have a knowledge regarding Turkish food considering that you are not local (how come you could know bulgur and sumak 😂) just discovered your channel and first time watching… and will be close follower of your videos for sure! Hope to see more videos from Turkiye 😊
It's funny that a lot of small restaurants in turkey have those mirrors on the wall where you can eat watching yourself. I think it has to do with how small some of those shops are.
There are a lot of foods that you should taste like a kokereç .But Gaziantep is another gurme city which is well-known with kebabs and baklavas .You should visit in Turkiye
Max, i have been watching you and Desi Chris for quite a while now. I was so surprised to see you in one of my Home Countries. You have to try my favourite Turkish dishes, for Soups i recommend Mercimek, Işkembe and Beyran and for main Dish i highly recommend Iskender Kebap and Karniyarik. Greetings from Germany.
We don't have just one kind of helva. Un helvası, irmik helvası, tahin helvası, yaz helvası (plain or cacao, i love yaz helvası), kağıt helva, koz helvası, fırında helva (sold in mostly seafood restaurants, tahini cleanses heavy metals in fish, ppl believe that), köpük helvası, süt helvası, pirinç unu helvası. Börek is a sub-group of Turkish pastries. I can count more than 30 different börek from Turkish cuisine. There is a special kinds of simit (I wanna suggest that), "kandil simidi". There are some special days in Islam and at those days, in patisseries, kandil simidi are baked and sold. I dislike Istanbul version but kandil simidi in Ankara is absolute taste. You can buy in a traditional pastries. Like DenizAtı, Liva or Elizinn.
