You literally helped me decide to buy a 2022 Himalayan. I didn't even ride it until after signing the paperwork because of your many reviews and was not a mistake. This thing is fun as all hell and I have 4 harleys in the garage to compare it too. This bike will be an everyday commuter in rain or shine due to not having to polish chrome if I get caught in the rain. Thank you sir I love your channel!

Alright, I got the wife on board to add another bike to the stable. I’m adding a 2022 Himalayan this spring! I’m going Himalayan because of the off-road ability that still has good street manners.

I trailered home my 2022 Pine Green Himalayan last week. It's been bitter cold here with snow so I've had to nourish myself with TH-cam videos and adding things to the bike. Later today I'll mount the GIVI engine guards after I watch your installation video one more time. Your review of the 2022 model is spot on. The only thing that you didn't point out is the seat is supposedly more comfortable.
Yesterday, with the temperature rising finally near the freezing mark I couldn't wait and took the motorcycle out for spin through the neighborhood. Only rode 10 miles but I certainly agree with the notion of the engine being like a tractor. It just pulls and pulls.
Thanks so much for creating and sharing your videos. They are extremely helpful. Right down to which bolts should have anti-seize and which should have Loctite!

Hi all I would just like to say that CEAT tyres have a good reputation in india, they are well made, most of the two wheeler vicheles in India turn on CEAT or MRF 👍👍👍 (it's another tyre brand, which is good)

    They also changed
    - Side covers are now larger to cover a few more things (for example BS4 models would let you view the abs module below the right cover)
    - Seat has been cushioned a little more

There are some more differences that were missed which I think are important.
    1. Bi-starter lever is now gone.
    2. ECU has been updated and also challenging to upgrade or piggyback.
    3. Cat converter has been moved closer to the exhaust ports of the engine.
    4. Horsepower has decreased ever so slightly.
    5. Engine has had some additional refinements and is now a little smoother.
    6. New model comes standard with the Touring Seat.
    7. ABS is now switchable on and off.
I hope these points in addition to the ones you mentioned are able to help those interested in buying a Himalayan.

I got lent one of these when my meteor was being serviced I was very glad to hand it back . The engine in the meteor is so much nicer and I didn’t find the bike that comfortable . The rest of the bike was ok and I didn’t take it off road . If I was looking to buy one there is a rumour of a new meteor based engine being put in the bike and I would wait for that.

I just bought a Himalayan 2022 about six weeks ago , I’m doing the mods as you have , the only difference is I’m adding the TEC-cam and 16 tooth front sprocket, adapting to my geographic location , that is long desert Hwy runs before getting to the Off-Road adventure. I love the simplicity of this motorcycle , and that an old gear head like me can work on it with confidence. Thank you for your Honest Thoughts. Sold the Street-Glide for a Himi.

Going for a test ride this weekend. Got a Triumph thunderbird 1600 which is a great cruiser but it is sooo heavy and because it is covered in chrome it only comes out on the 3 sunny days a year we get! Moved to a very rural bit of the UK a few years ago and noticed all these off road tracks that you can ride on so I fancy a bit of that. What i also like about the Himalayan is that you can easily adjust your own tappet clearances. My Triumph has to got to the dealer for that as i just don't have the confidence to remove cams to fit new bucket shims - and that is after spending 2 hours just getting to the point you can check. My GPZ 900 R had adjustable tappets and the Himalayan looks really easy. Would be easier still if it had hydraulic tappets like my wife's Sportster though... I enjoyed the video and am looking forward to seeing what 24 horse power feels like. Your right - it really is all down to the Torque. A friend had an old Yamaha SR500 when we all had big Kawasaki's and we would regularly switch for a few miles as the single 500 had such a stomp at low revs it gave us all a big grin. One thing that should be mentioned is the MPG. Bikes all seemed to be about the power and speed but coupled with the low initial cost, the excellent economy makes this a cracking commuter bike to cover the 20 odd miles each way of country lanes i travel to work. Many Thanks for posting!

Well I have been taking lessons and have been going through all the UK tests for a "ride anything" licence. Today I passed the last (practical) road test and have my full motorcycle licence. I bought a 2000 Suzuki gsx600f to start on and go out for my first ride tomorrow. So thanks for helping me get back into it at the young age of 63 🤣 Keep the vids coming. Cheers, Andy.

I wouldn't give you a knob of anything for the CEAT tyres after swapping to the 705 shinkos.
The CEAT tyres are ok at 30 mph, but square off really fast and are so critical on tyre pressure. To get any semblance of cornering ability, 28 front, 34 rear in my case. Never felt good or comfortable in a corner. The shinkos however, im running out of "chicken strips" on them they stick that well.
As for the 2022 mods, about the only thing they changed compared to mine is the smaller tank frames, shifting the cat and the new throttle body and ecm. Ill stick to my 2021 thanks, 6'3" and never smacked the tank frames yet.
Keep up the good work Ronin, and remember the 10% tyre oressure rule when determining the optimum air pressure for the shinkos. I'm at 30 and 35 , sticks like the proverbial in corners now and a lot nicer off road than the CEAT

I have no experience with the more aggressive/offroad Shinko tires, but I have used them on several bikes, including a 1500 Nomad. I feel like their a bit short on mileage, but they do grip really well for the money. I know the mold wax theory has been mostly debunked, but they always do feel greasy for the first miles, especially if you max out the pressure instead of following your bike manufacturer recommended pressure. .

I read on some British bike sites they will make a 450cc version of the same engine. That would be sweet, imo. They say it will have 40 hp, which sounds like a big difference for such a small displacement increase, but that's what the articles say.

One of the things you missed was the 2022 Himalayan has no choke/cold start thing, also the cat is mounted higher in the exhaust tubing. Also the wring around the battery is much improved it is easier to get the battery in and out. The ECU is smaller and thing like the Power Commander do not work.
I have also been told the Euro 5 model has a tad more go but I haven't ridden an older model yet to confirm that.
Maybe if you get a chance to rode a Euro 5 version (preferably one that is run in) please do a comparison.

I have two R/Enfield's..... ( 650 Interceptor and a 500 Bullet w/sidecar) Others ask about the quality of the machines. I just tell them that years ago I wouldn't have bought one. Basically, just tired old Brit bikes with all the usual issues. But Royal Enfield has entered the 21st century (2010) with products equal to other manufactures from across both ponds. My friend purchased a Himmy (2018) and he's logged over 23,000 miles... No issues. Except for consumables, tires, sprockets, filters.... he's done nothing to the engine. If I was more of an off-road dirt rider... Ii'd have one in my stable. 😎

Wondering , are you really happy that the late 2020/21 BS6 euro 5 emission model Himalayan is finally on sale in the States fitted with the 'new' Korean made Ceat tires ? , also wondering how long you have had your 2018 ? Himalayan sounds like poss 3 years and still plenty of tread/meat left on those boots ! Also as you are a tall beefy guy , instead of fitting new boots to your Himalayan consider a High flow air filter/lighter exhaust can and a TEC camshaft (not much more expensive than a pair of tires) 19% more bhp/torque 19% more fun ! Lots of info on You Tube bout the BS4 and BS6 Himalayan

    • @OlManRonin
      @OlManRonin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

First, the tread on my tires are great for those who ride mostly road, I do not. So instead of the Pirelli or Ceat are 80/20 I'm going for Shinko 700 60/40. Much better for the off roads i do. Secondly, yes completely happy with the bike the way it is, but am open to upgrading performance, but not that high on my list of to do's. I've had the bike about a year and half. I bought it used. As far as wanting a high performance bike, check out all my other videos. plenty of those there Cheers and thank for watching

I have been watching your videos and yesterday I went to the Scottsdale AZ dealership and bought a 2022 Himalayan. The price was $5299 which I was expecting, but destination was $1050, the charge for dealership handling (un-crating) was $895, and their Doc fee was $495. So after they collected registration and sales tax I ended up paying $8438. Not a happy wife. After paying I was waiting around for them to finish in service and the tech finally brought it around and said there was a problem with the battery and he replaced it with a new one. I jumped on and headed home and immediately the red battery light came on. Well, stupid me I thought since it was a new battery it just needed time to fully charge while I rode. I got half way home and the gauges all went out and a few minutes later the bike died. Completely dead battery and wouldn't start. I called the dealership and they picked me and the bike up but not a good first day with a brand new bike. I hope this isn't indicative of things to come. :-)
