Não veio para o Brasil para não concorrer com a parati. A Volkswagen detinha de 51% das ações da Autolatina. Porém em 1996 a Autolatina foi desfeita e a Ford começou a importar os Escort da Argentina logo em 1996 e no ano de 1997 já era lançada a versão com motor 1.8 16v Zetec-E. Importado também da Argentina, porém o motor era importado da Inglaterra. Foi uma grande evolução no tempo, pois foi um grande salto em cima do motor AP e CHT da época.
